Chapter 6 Trouble

My shift for the night has started, but Lucas is still sitting there, playing with his phone. I wonder why isn't he leaving yet? I wanted to ask him why he was still here, but that would make me a bother, so I decided to ignore his presence.
"Is your boyfriend waiting for you to finish up? How sweet."
Jonah, my coworker said as he rolled his eyes, saying how a relationship only feels nice in the beginning and everything would end up breaking your own heart. Or that's what he said. I wonder who hurt him...
"He's not my boyfriend."
I sigh as Jonah just gives me a disapproving look. What the hell?
"You were with him earlier. Don't tell me you're just friends, because a girl and a boy sitting together eating dinner is obviously a date. Which means you are in a relationship with him."
Jonah argued, trying to prove his theory that I'm dating Lucas. Just what is wrong with his head? I was about to argue with him, but I noticed Lucas had been staring at us. I don't really get it, but does he like me or something? This is really troubling.
"I could see it when someone's in love."
Jonah adds as he smirks, leaving me speechless because I have no idea what the heck he is talking about. Seriously? In love? That was absurd. I mean, we literally just met this morning. How could I or Lucas be in love with each other? I could never imagine that. I decided to shrug it off and avoid talking about that topic with Jonah since he is so annoying. When I took a peek at where Lucas was, he was no longer there. I assumed he had already left since why would he even be here after we finished our discussion—bribe related? I finished my shift at exactly 12am and I can't say that it wasn't tiring, but the payment is good enough. So I don't mind being a little tired and don't have enough sleep since I have an early class tomorrow. Gosh, I wish I could get a twelve-hour sleep.
I was walking back to the dorm. This was not my first time that I went past curfew, but the security knew me too well and we became best buds. I'm really grateful that the uncle just let me go and even said to have a good night's sleep. Well, he usually said that to me when he saw me walking at night after finishing my work. I can't wait to sleep in my bed and forget what happened today.
"You're late."
I was beyond shocked when I heard a voice, but I saw no one around. What the hell is going on now? And what does it mean for me to be late? What? I turned around to try and see who that voice belonged to, but there was nobody around.
"Am I hallucinating now?"
I sighs. I'm probably tired because I started hearing things...Maybe... Hopefully.
"I can see now how your point in being a boy gives you the privilege to walk around at night. You look like you've seen a ghost."
Finally, the person. The voice that I know way too well appears in one of the alleys, laughing to their heart's content. What is wrong with him? Suddenly, creeping out from who knows where, acting like a perverted stalker himself.
"What the hell are you doing lurking in the dark alone?"
I gulped. Wait, he's not thinking of getting rid of me for knowing his friend's secret, right? Oh shit.
"I was waiting for you."
When Lucas said that, my whole body shivered in fear. I was right. Wait, what the heck? When he noticed me looking somewhat scared, he started to laugh again, clutching to his stomach, saying inaudible words that I couldn't seem to hear since he was talking and laughing at the same time. What the hell is so funny?
"Your reaction is so funny. Oh my god. You seriously thought that I wanted to do something to you? What kind of movies have you been watching?"
As he was trying to calm himself, he stopped himself from laughing. Well, I am glad that he's not going to do anything weird. But still, it was embarrassing when he said it like that while laughing to his heart's content.
"Come on, I'll take you home."
Lucas smiled, and that got me wondering. Did he really fall for me or something? Why would he be doing this if he didn't feel anything for me, right? This is really weird. What is he doing? I wonder if he realises all this.
"Why?"
I questioned him as he just continued to study my expression. Somehow, give me a fake smile, okay?
"Why? I can't? You said that you were scared of walking alone at night, so here I am being the gentleman. I am walking you home. Now praise me."
Lucas, he said as he bowed his head to me as if asking me to pet his head. Okay, he really is the weirdest person I have ever met in my entire life. Well, besides from Sarah, of course. He was the strangest and most annoying person I'd ever met. Still, I am curious about it. It could be that, right? But it does not make sense at all.
"Do you like me or something?"
I eyed him with confusion. He just stared at me with a blank expression. I seriously don't know what is going on in that guy's head.
