Chapter 48 Do Not Lie To Me
"That can not be. Axton will not be able to live through it, miss and you know that."
She was quiet for some time, before she looked up to him again. "Another thing I know is that I would give everything to see him heal."
"I am sorry to day this, miss, but you will mot see him heal. You intend to kill two people? He will not be able to take it, and knowing that you did it to heal him will make it in unbearable, I promise you. He will not live through it."
"Then what am I supposed to do? What should I do, beta? I am...at a dead end here."
"Have you ever thought what if that letter is just a sham? What if someone is trying to get to you? Just let this be, Natalia. I would rather see him bedridden and happy with you than walking dead. Not while I am here."
She nodded and he helped her up.
"It is dark, and I know he will be awake by now. We should leave." He gave her his hand and pulled her up, then piled everything back into the drawer.
He took the letter with him, and tucked it into his cloth, then helped her out of the house.
"Natalia?" Axton called, but she was nowhere to be found. The place was dark and eerily silent, with nothing to convince him she was still in the house.
"Natalia, I am awake." He called again, yet no answer.
"Beta?" No answer too.
He starter to feel a very weird feeling in the pit of his stomach. Where could they be?
He stretched his right hand to hold the bedside, then pulled himself with it. He succeeded in getting to the edge of the bed, before he let go of the bedside drawer. He pushed his right leg forward and found a balance, then forced himself into a sitting position.
It was hard work, but he at least needed to know where she was. Or what was happening.
He dabbed at the bedside again, then pulled himself to a half standing position, his limp leg unable to stand on its own.
Slowly, punctuated with a couple grunts and contacts with the floor, he got to the door.
He balanced his body on the door and turned the knob, just as Natalia turned it too. She released it and watched as he opened it slowly.
"Why are you here?" She asked him, then quickly put her hands around him to help him up.
"I kept calling for you but you were not around. Where did you go?" He asked, then held her cheek with the right hand. "Do not leave my side. I can not help getting anxious."
She swallowed. "Why would you want someone who can not even heal you?"
"Why would I want someone else?" He asked her, his eyes cool.
Beta Scott sighed behind them to let them know of his presence, and Axton backed away a little.
"Beta. You were with her?"
They exchanged glances before Beta Scott answered. "She wanted to take a short walk and pay respects to her father. I knew you would not like her being alone, that is why I accompanied her."
Axton's expression became a little sad. "You feel a little suffocated, right? I am so sorry."
"Do not say things like that."
She said, and started to help him back.
"I want to go to the bath house. I would like to relax there."
She nodded and helped him slowly, while Beta Scott waited outside.
He helped her close the door with his right hand, and she made her way around the bath. He got in, and she followed, not minding her dress.
"Will you tell me the truth now, Natalia?" He asked, drawing figures on the surface of the water.
"What?"
"You and beta Scott...where did you actually go to?"
"We..."
"I do not want to believe that you would ever be in a situation to lie to me. I also do not think you would willingly put yourself in a position to lie to me."
She blinked, then lowered her eyes.
"Axton...I..."
"You are not thinking of going anywhere, are you? You know I will not be able to look for you. And I would hate myself for it."
"I..."
"You said you would not leave me. I do not care if Beta Scott lies to me, but I will not be able to take it from you, Natalia."
She nodded. "I went back home."
"Do you miss it?"
"I just..wanted to see if there was something my father was not saying."
He looked at her. "Do you not believe me when I tell you I am content?"
"I believe you...I just...feel so guilty. Maybe if I..."
"Do not entertain thoughts you know I will not agree with. Do that for my sake."
She nodded and leaned into him, and he kissed her forehead.
"I love you, whether you are able to heal me or not."
She closed her eyes and let her tears flow freely. "I love you too."
"I know." He said, then kissed the corner of her lips.
"You still wear you mother's necklace?" He said, his breath fanning her skin.
"I actually forgot about it." She pulled it off, then threw it out of the water. The contact with the concrete floor smashed the blue pendant into pieces, and so did Axton.Download Novelah App
