CHAPTER 25
Vladimir's POV
Fire.
The whole town was burning with fire and I could smell blood as soon as Cassy, well Syne, brought me back to the present time.
She looked surprised which made me realize that she doesn't know anything about this.
"What happened?" she asked incredulously. "Did you just wage a war against us?" She looked at me.
"No ... I don't know ..."
I turned around and before I could understand the events Syne had disappeared in front of me. I immediately ran to the church which was the first to explode as I was trying to find my family.
The bodies of the vampires were scattered. I can't recognize them anymore because their heads have been beheaded but I'm sure they are among the vampire soldiers of our clan.
What the hell did my family do? Who planned this? Is it my mother?
I just wiped my face because I didn't know what to do anymore. I closed my eyes and tried to feel the surroundings to find my brothers but all I could hear was the sound of swords and flapping of wings. It also includes shouting and crying.
No, this is all wrong.
How many days have I been lost in this world and my parents decided to make a mess against the angels?
We can't win against them.
I quickly ran to the scene of the mess but I was immediately stopped when Uriel came down in front of me.
"I told you to kill Syne, what are you doing?" he said angrily. "You need to stop this war or you will all die and when that happens you just fell into Michael's trap!"
"What?" I lifted my brows. "What do you mean by that?"
"Michael planned this for a long time, vampire. He wants to erase your clan's existence in this world. To tell you, Syne did everything to stop that and your family just ruined everything!"
"I'm sorry. I didn't know. You angels never tell us things and then blame us?" I said, frustrated. I feel like I'm going to explode with just too much emotion.
"Even before you met Syne, Michael wanted to end your bloodline, that is why he triggered some witches and vampires to start the ancient war, but he wasn't successful because Syne helped you, helped your bloodline."
"Why?" I shook my head in dismay. "Why does he want to kill us?"
"Vampire sprung out of evil. Technically, you are a devil on earth and that means you are Lucifer's creature. And, Michael doesn't want any memories of Lucifer roaming around the earth. He wants you all to go to hell!"
"But we are not Lucifer's creation-"
"How did you know that?"
I paused. I don't know. I never thought about it until now.
"I am telling you this because I don't want to wipe up your existence. We did wipe up some evil ones, but you aren't evil. At least, your family."
"What should I do? Should I kill Syne? What good will it do?"
"She will remove the link connected to you and you can kill yourself to end this war. Or we can choose to kill you all along with her."
He disappeared after that.
Damn! Uriel! You are making it hard for me. So, all along they are using Syne to wipe us. It was their plan for us to wage a war so they have a reason to kill us. It was never about Syne and I, but the entire clan.
I couldn't believe the ancient war was because of angels.
Now, all I want is to wake up the noble and my father. Maybe, we can win the war. Although, I never thought we could win against angels.
I ran towards the battlefield. I couldn't identify all the vampires but a lot of them were already killed. I also noticed some wounded angels on the side. I think they are the lower forms of angels that fell from the sky.
Where are the people?
Are we in some kind of dimension because it seems to me that there are no bystanders?
I looked around and felt relieved that there were no people around. There weren't lowkies around, maybe angels already wiped them out.
It seems to be a war fought only by strong members of our clan and by angels.
"Stop it, Gabriel!" Syne shouted loudly and in a short second I felt an earthquake.
I stopped and looked at her. She was still the same Cassy I knew, although I could now see how different she is to us.
She wasn't wearing any shoes, she's barefoot and actually floating an inch. The blue light surrounding her was also clear unlike before. Has she regained her strength?
"Syne!" I ran towards her.
I wasn't paying attention a while ago but now that I've come to my senses, I saw my parents being held hostage by Gabriel.
"They started it, Syne!" Gabriel fired back. It seemed like something was breaking somewhere with every shout they made.
"Stay away or I am going to kill them!" he threatened as Gabriel's sharp weapon hit my sisters' necks.
"Noooo!" I screamed my lungs out. "STOP IT!" I couldn't help but sigh.
It's my fault. Damn! I never expected this.
"Please ... it's me you need, right? Kill me!" I urged Gabriel and slowly walked towards him but Syne stopped me.
"Cassy! They are going to kill my family! We need to stop!" I begged her. I can no longer understand what he wanted to do.
I heard screams I could no longer bear. It's killing me knowing hundreds of vampires and angels can die because of us. They will die because of our selfishness.
"Mom, why do you have to do this?" I sighed. I also can't blame them because I know they only worry about me.
How many days have passed since I'm gone? It is only a moment but the course of time is different in the real world and in the world of angels.
"You could have just waited for me."
"I'm sorry," she mouthed as they were around the fire Gabriel had created.
I can see the pain in them. The heat of the fire has not yet reached their bodies but they already feel that they are burning. Is this hell?
Too much chaos around. I no longer knew what was going on.
Chaos.
Van was trying to use his powers while Via and Vanna started screaming as the fire went closer and closer to them.
Stan was fighting along with the twins from the Ruin, and Ace was also there but it seems that their powers aren't working. We are already losing as the vampires slowly kneeled to the angels.
"Who told you to do this?" Syne asked them.
"It was Mira," Stan looked down as he held one of the angels. "She told us that the way to summon an angel is by burning something they loved."
"But you burn a church and it means waging a war!" Syne looked frustrated as she looked back at Gabriel. She didn't expect this, so did I.
"Mira told us that we should burn the church," Van said as he apologetically smiled at us.
I tried to put my palm on the ground to freeze it but it wasn't working. Damn!
"Mira, the Gemini Witch?" Syne asked in disbelief. "Mira died during the ancient war! It can't be!" Syne screamed her frustration and the wind started to blow when she shouted, "You fooled them, Michael!"
"It wasn't Michael. I did it," Another angel appeared. He was holding a blade with blood on it.
"Raphael?" Syne felt betrayed as she asked.
"I told you, Syne. You need to end your connection with the vampires. We need to erase them!"
Syne shook her head. "I thought we were fighting the evil but you are the evil ones! Not all vampires are evil!"
Michael laughed. "They have no soul."
"It seems to me you don't have either," Syne brought out a dagger. "I will agree to kill the evil vampires who laid hands on humans, but if you are going to kill his family, I am going to deliver you to meet Lucifer!"
I don't know what happened. Time stopped. I just saw my siblings next to me. My mother immediately hugged me and so did Van, Via, and Vanna.
Ace and Stan ran towards us and we both looked at the sky. At first, it looked like lightning, but when you look closely, they're angels fighting.
No, Syne was fighting against an angel, no, it was more than one.
I cursed at myself as I looked down. I know I can't do anything. I can't fly that high.
I just sighed as I prayed for Syne's safety. I know longer know what to do.
I really need to end this.
"Ugh. I am hating my sister now," Another angel appeared behind us.
"Azrael," Via called. Wait, Via knew him? And, Azrael? I looked at him. He was holding a scythe as he removed his hood. I saw a guy who looked exactly like Syne.
"How did you know him?"
"He saved us from Gabriel," Vanna proudly said. "Are you here to collect souls?"
Azrael looked around and nodded. "I hope so. I'm getting bored. Where's Uriel?"
"Are you not going to join them?" Uriel instantly appeared. "Are you going to let your sister die?"
"Help her!" I urged Azrael. "Save her! She's going to die! She is your sister!" I begged Azrael.
He ignored me as he continued to stare at the sky. It seems like there is a meteor shower happening in the sky every time an angel falls.
"She's not going to die," Azrael stated as he looked at me.
"How did you know that?" I scoffed. "She's fighting against Gabriel and Raphael!"
"I am the Angel of Death," he turned to me. "And, I am here to give you my real blade. Don't you dare waste it!" He handed me the blade.
I stared at it for a few seconds before holding it. I don't know what's right but I'm sure it needs to be finished.
"I heard we don't have a soul," I asked him. "So, it will be useless, right? To kill me? Will the afterlife still not work?" I asked. That's only my conclusion.
"Where do vampires go when they die? Where do I go?"
I am not afraid to die. I am just afraid that if I die people or Syne will forget about me. And somehow I want to be reincarnated, yet I don't have a soul so it's not possible.
Before I could react, Michael appeared in front of us.
"You go to hell, by means of that, you are going to disappear. Poof!" He gestured with a mocking smile. "Like you never existed."
"Do you want to wipe us all, vampires?"
He nodded. "I am working on erasing your existence and I am going to start with your clan."
"Will it end if I kill myself?"
"It won't. You have no soul," Syne replied from a distance. "You will disappear and will never go back so you don't dare die until you grow a soul and I can reincarnate you."
We focused our attention on her as she held Gabriel and Raphael by the neck. They have no trace of wounds but you can see the weakness in them as if they have been fighting Syne for years. Is Syne really that powerful?
"Wait, what?" Vanna said. "Vampires can grow a soul?"
"Anyone can grow a soul," she replied.
"Let's settle this Michael," she firmly said. "Just us and let's forget about the vampires. After all, it should only be between us."
He frees Gabriel and Raphael. The two immediately ran next to Michael. In an instant, Uriel and Azrael were beside her. While the group of angels began to walk towards where Michael was.
"Damn! Syne!" Gabriel cursed while scanning his body. "You are giving me a headache!"
"It will end after they all die!" Michael glared at us.
"It will end if you will bring his soul back!" Azrael said. "I am getting impatient. Real impatient, so Michael, give his soul back."
"What?" I was confused. "I thought I didn't have a soul."
"You did when you were a human. Michael stole it. He's really the reason why the afterlife is in chaos and he's blaming it on you," Uriel added.
"I really can't understand angels. You are all liars!" I scoffed. "You even want me to kill Syne. What is the truth?"
Uriel smirked. "Forget about that. I'm bluffing."
Syne apologetically smiled at me. "Sorry, I disappeared. I was gaining my strength and working with the afterlife. We just recently learned about Michael's real plan."
She bowed to us and to my family. "I am going to make it right."
"Don't you dare! They still need to pay--"
Gabriel couldn't finish what he wanted to say because all of a sudden we came back to our home. Azrael's sword was gone from my hand.
What? I looked around. Is this real?
"For now, I know it's hard to understand," Syne smiled at me. She was wearing the usual school uniform of our university with her high boots. It's like the first time I saw her.
"Soon, you'll be able to understand why I did this or why this happened," she looked at my family. "Sorry for dragging you this. I don't want Michael to wipe you out because I know you can all grow a soul."
"Can we?" Mom asked, confused. "Can we die? We are immortal. We don't die."
"There's always a miracle. And, you are good vampires so I know you can grow a soul if you continue to be like that. By then, you can choose to die and be reincarnated. Who knows if you'll be a human, right? " She laughed a little.
"How can we know?" Via asked.
"You'll feel it," she glanced at me. "Until then, don't die without my permission. I'll prove to Michael and the rest of the angels that evil or demons can also grow a soul."
"Syne ..." My tears fell and I don't know.
Suddenly my chest tightened. Maybe it was because I already knew this would be the last.
"I am going to explain everything, Chival. You have a lot of questions and I don't think I made everything clear, but know that I do love you, and I will be forever your guardian angel," she made a curtsy and bowed a little.
I ran to hug her. "I love you, Syne." I kissed her forehead. She feels lighter like she's not really in front of me.
"Am I dreaming?"
She nodded. In an instant, my family disappeared around us and she was the only one in front of me.
"I can't visit you often, but I will try my best to at least see you in your dreams," she caressed my face. "Take care of yourself, Chival."
"No ... don't," I cried. I hugged her so tight, afraid to let her go. I have so many things I want to tell her, to do to her, but I remain speechless.
I felt her embrace, her warmth and tried to engrave it in my heart and my mind.
"We'll meet again, Chival," She stared into my eyes. "You may not be able to remember me when you reincarnate. I know, you are going to meet my human counterpart."
"Syne ... I love you. Let's meet again, huh?" I smiled at her.
She let go of me and nodded.
"Close your eyes," she whispered while holding my hand.
Slowly, the warmth of her hand disappeared from my palm until I finally woke up with tears in my eyes.
