Chapter 104

“That is very unreasonable of you young lawyer. You know nothing about the law of politics and corruption” Uka replied.
“ But then, I am a British trained lawyer” he replied smiling.
“Everyone knows that Pius is so self-centered and self-satisfied that he cannot hide it anymore. He must have deceived you into believing him. He pretends and thinks he can explore the whole world. He kept repeating to me to keep my eyes open for anything that might happen. He is making himself a fool”.
“This is a funny place. I don’t much like it. Leave my hand mother and stop buying me”, he said. Pulling his hands out of that of his mother hold.
Uka stood up immediately like one stung by an ugly insect.
“A fool?” he asked.
“Yes a hundred-year dammed fool” he replied.
“Mom am so sorry we met in this mood. I am going. I am not happy too that we met this way. As for you, master I reserve my words. I know what you are up to. I know what you are eyeing. Soon it shall be realized. I, as a fool don’t fancy seating in an intelligent place of this nature. Good day mother”. He said as jammed the door heavily and stormed down the staircase.
Outside, it was raining, and he walked back. He eyed his mother trifled doubtfully. He was really in support of Uka - her most loved. He could not do anything to buy her mother to this plan.
“No, I must leave mother. I see no regret in you” he said again and ran out.
“Come back. Come together please both of you. We have not had time to talk consolingly to each one since you came back. Do both of you fancy spending the rest of your life as did Pius, being hunted up and down the creeks and streets as they know him to belong to Mr. Zack. Please do behave sensibly. We are at fix.”
Both stood gazing and gaping doubtfully. She was right. It would be the greatest height of foolishness to settle such thin problem with bickering and anger.
“You made us to be at fix. I am not at fix. I have been liberated”. Mosi replied.
“Well as I know, Pius is a fool and planning hard with his pessimistic friends to implicate not us but himself and his selfish desire in the gang star lifestyle. Let’s hang together mom to see him unfold his plans. Even you boy” pointing at Mosi ‘ I had thought you would have been human enough to set our mothers mind at rest and look at you here making noise like an oak or better an owl. May God forgive you both?”
“You talk too much. Don’t you too worry about what he is saying. It’s of no account. He is your younger brother. You should learn the art of patience. It saves your respect and problems”. She told Uka.
She sat down slowly like one heavily disappointed. She was not happy again by Mosi’s lack of cooperation but smile bravely to calm down some tensions. Her pleadings and motherly gesture had put anger out of their head, and they were for a perceptible moment cheerful. This time, it was not possible to re-establish, after these emotional or rather troublesome passages, the natural flow of conversation, even though they were her children.
“Mother “called Mosi” I am not afraid of anything. Let them treat us badly if they want to. I stand by Pius. He is my brother, and I shall give him definitely all the attention he needs now. There is no reason to be afraid and to prevent them from taking more action. What have they not done? I want to make my points clear to you. I don’t want to take shelter in this roof anymore. As for you sir, I know your plans and I keep repeating it. But don’t forget we know where you belong. We decide who becomes legal and adopted here. I know when, where how and why they should be treated so”?
“Mom, you heard him. I had long been an intruder in the very home of legal. The so-called legal children. The beginning of the final battle is ahead. Be ready” he said and walked out with indecent haste.
Mrs. Zack’s feet were not planted firmly on the ground. She was carrying her load in pain in heart, wanting to lose focus, shivering, more trouble. Her kindness had been mistaken for selfishness. While Pius was against her remarriage with Ribadau their father’s old opponent and friend, Uka does not see anything wrong with that. Mosi was obviously a chip off the old block. They were like divided regions with different problems.
