Chapter 109

A round of cheers and applause followed and died down.
“The new millennium ushers in a hope for the people of this great republic and now in our fourth republic we shall work hard to improve and repair the damages done by the previous power holders who his Excellency tried to cub with his power as the chief coordinator of the nation’s affairs. Those failures led to the constructing of our new agenda - the twelve point agenda in  our manifesto. He took time to wave to the gaily crowd of the country men who had come far and near to honor the country.
“Paramount in our manifest is –
-         concern for public safety”.
-         Improving the decayed infrastructure but with hope that our nation would exercise justice in waiting as it improved.
-         Continued support for the ruling party whose sole aim is to improve the living condition of our people from 50 cent to 1 dollar per day.
-         Involving more women and youth in our policy making and making them take active role in politics.
-         Gender equality in  politics.
-         Massive road maintenance first especially in zones that had been known with history of inaccessible road.
-         Full implementation of due process and rule of law and uniting the aggrieved party for the formation of stable government.
-         Priority to education and basic modern amenities.
-         Establishment of new and private refineries, hence the old ones are subject to review.
-         Probing if found guilty of any financial misconduct those who looted the treasury of the country and bring them to book.
-         Constitutional review and better revenue allocation formula for the regions with high concentration of our sources of income.
-         Providing jobs to our youths and poverty alleviation program.

“We have other follow-up lists, which cannot all be said now. The present administration has tried their best and so we shall work hard to fish their leftovers. Agenda as you know should not be mistaken with program. We are setting in and so we will materialize agenda to be program in no short time. This is the time when we catch our breath and realize that gifted and more mature politicians are about to ascend to the status of legend with their seasoned knowledge and expertise in all areas of governance. We too must try  to vote massively on the forthcoming election to help us to prove to our nation and the world in general that we lead by example. We must guard against introducing measures, which will increase inflation. The failure of the past administration that could not give us all we need was not entirely their fault. They fought all they could to put to right the wrong of people that came before them. We promise to be the best in matters of basic human need, which we believe would rightly be implemented. At the time of their ascension into power, they were left with an economic vacuum that we would attempt to fill. The issue of corruption has been well ventilated and henceforth we should look for changes. A litany of complaint over corruption must all be dealt with. It is very much a live issue and we should not let it go. Our administration is working to input declaring a moratorium on corruption. It would help solved many problems. We need a government that would be receptive to ideas, concepts and development. A government that would introduce a tax cut which I believe would act as a stimulant to further economic growth. The ailing economic problem would be treated. Democracy, which had been in limbo, would be saved with all strength. Our solemn promise is the improvement of employment prospect for people living in the rural areas. Our great party can do that. After all, we have built around our growing party a fortress that cannot easily be dismantled. We will also walk hard to polish our image abroad”.
These were for a fact the long list of talks in the chains of the past administration. However, he was overly anxious to win plaudit, but his talks were not orderly and no good concept was added to it. The entire people and critics from other parties were only disappointed. He was a good plagiarist. Mr. President was nodding and taking it all as a great achievement.
His main aim was to harvest the spillage of support of the people for the government policies. After a short time, he got lost to what else to say. He had repeated like many others before him, but in keeping with the tradition of the election, he would have to say his mind. The one silent crowd started barracking him and the president that they could not continue.
          The day ended.
