The election reduced the ruling party’s prestige more in the eyes of the earth to a rump. They took all regions, winning alone forty-seven seats against three. It was an election which could have provided a cure for many in their many years of expectation for a new government. Unexpected candidates passed and would soon be sworn in, mostly politicians inimical to true democracy. The selection processes and recycling were too open to be noticed by everyone. Those who had campaigned suddenly lost on the ground that they held little respect for the ruling party and deserved no cake from it while many others were great opposers to continuity of the last Mr. Presidents administration and those who openly challenged him thereafter. They had outcropped gain just as they did in the past administration behaving rudely and arrogating undue powers to themselves and begging to be given a zone for a lifetime inheritance. The result was nothing to talk home about – released on a fraudulent ground, undercounting, over counting, electoral lists containing the names of dead people and generations yet unborn and much cancellation of votes where there were established electoral heist. There was clearly every violation of rules and widespread voting fraud and intimidation. Ballot boxes were stuffed in public views, illiterate voters were forced and told who to vote for and who not to. It was a history that would retell itself as long as this African nation continued. The ruling party, which was regarded as the “shrines” feared in the republic, did not do well too. They stole everything overnight and swept the country despite infighting. While lips and fingers were snapping over such betrayal of democracy, the ruling party was priding itself as the largest party in the whole continent holding chains of political renegades together in their cliques. It crushed to victory even to grassroots all opposing parties, that these parties faded away like a mist and disappears. It was so because of the purges in the parties that followed in the change of a new government. A fairly accurate assessment of the situation revealed their direct involvement in the whole affairs. This was just to put them in line to defend their allegation made to them. Their trick with Uka was carried out behind a veil of secrecy. They had forced the body in charge of the nation election to accept at all costs the game and the new rule of it. The party who does not want most of their activities to be in the public domain carried the mandate of the public in an illegal means. They had retained power by liquidating the minor parties since it all began discrediting them and sometimes fighting them publicly. They had everything at their disposal – thugs, police and ammunition and could put any to good use. The new electoral body was watching. The body had gone through series of substitution of candidates with strict instruction from the governing body of the party. Those qualified this minute could be disqualified the next minute for an unknown cause. They had acquired a fearsome reputation and public knowledge in everything, that nobody challenges them openly. Innocent politicians were made the scapegoats for incompetence of others. The citizens in their entirety were stunned and dumbfounded, international observers - the most concerned ones were fluttered. Their games had nearly been perfected by the low standard rating of the election. Mr. President and his men sunk prodigious amount of public money into the election to win it at every attainable cost – a thing which brought up inter-probe among the party members. With their conduct in the election, they would be made to be on the receiving end of political satire in their entire life. They had set stage for rumor to thrive and created a history in the sand of time. The reputation has gone up in smoke with unprecedented bloodshed and open destruction of valuable things and burning of buildings and cars even after many days. The perpetrators hiding under the veil of protest as if nothing had happened. Some died at the process and others left with life threatening injury that could mark them out for life. It was far better naturally, that Mr. Zack was late to see the vice committed in the name of election after him, the nemesis that came with his death. Seeing Mr. president and his new boys, eating what naturally belonged to others would hardly prove the succeeding government legitimates, a government that emerged through a selection process, a dubious and fraudulent process, that Mr. president stage-managed. He could have been a force against this. The election was one of those momentous events, which caused a sea of change in public attitude against the government. Those with bad political record suddenly emerged to be the trust- worthiest citizens in the realm. Some of these ones had served in various past administrations with hardly any remarkable impact to their credits. Many had aged, others had questionable characters to their morality with cases on the table financial corrupt commission. Others had passed their prime in political field, while the antecedents of others were tied to failures. Foreign journalists busily asked questions and rapidly took down notes. They had been equipped with stories to air. The national dailies were coming up with cartoon that made the election termed “below the standard of third world countries”.
