Chapter 16 Sixteen
“Everything’s doing fine, sister. It’s great that there are more children here,” Cormac said enthusiastically as he ate one after the other.
I have done nothing but wonder. Is Cormac Carter really what I see now?
More than what I found out, he wasn’t really his parents’ biological son. It is also surprising that he has such a personality. He seems so different.
But then, even though my resentment towards the man was rude, I still couldn’t help but be happy for him.
I may be a little out of place, but I ignored that. The nuns here are kind, so as the children. I just don’t know why I can’t socialize with them.
Maybe, it’s about the truth. The fact that Cormac isn’t really a Carter makes me even sadder.
“I am glad that they are at home. . .” Cormac continued. “The anniversary’s coming. Do you have a plan yet?”
Throughout lunch, I could not even dare to speak. I don’t know how to feel because of what I found out.
Is this really worth the risk? If I reveal to the audience Cormac is not the real son of the Carters, will it affect the man’s life?
C.C Cars is at the top. People have a lot of trust in it because they trust Cormac himself and not because of his surname.
We could actually turn his story into an inspiring one. I am confident that the company will not be miserable because its investors and customers can even increase.
We really need to pursue the documentary. I need to do this.
“Miss!”
After having lunch, I decided to leave Cormac with the nuns first, especially since they talked about the orphanage’s upcoming anniversary.
I followed the voice. A smiling kid appeared to me who I think is fifteen or sixteen years old.
I don’t want to look rude to children, especially since this is the first time they will see me, so I easily approach her.
The girl is tall, but her face tells me otherwise. That was my basis for analyzing her age.
“Hi! Have you eaten?” I start, trying to be friendly and such.
I thought that I could get someone to talk to because she was older than the other kids here.
I smiled big, trying to convince the girl in front to be more comfortable with me.
“Are you his girlfriend?” She said it sharply as she crossed her arms at her chest.
“Me? Whose girlfriend am I?” I answered. I noticed that her arms were crossed in front of her chest and an eyebrow was slightly raised as if the child was going to stab me.
“Mr. Carter,” she said bluntly.
I swear to the gods and goddesses, I really tried not to laugh because of what she said. But eventually, a ridiculous plan entered my mind.
“I don’t have to ask you anymore. I know he’s mine,” he baffled.
I quickly looked around the area. I don’t see a single shadow of Cormac so I’m thrilled.
“What are you talking about?” My laughter right in front of the child made his forehead furrow even more. “How old are you?”
He quickly fixed her stares. “I’m eighteen. I’m an adult.”
That’s when I burst out laughing. Apart from the way the woman said that, I wondered what kind of treatment Cormac had done to the woman so that the child in front of me would think like that.
“I’m sorry to tell you this, kid, but Mr. Carter doesn’t like women that are decades apart in age with him,” I said head-on, started teaching her. “In fact–” I raised my hand to where my ring is. “We’re engaged.”
I simply waited for the woman’s reaction, and I was not disappointed. Just seconds after, I could see some coming from the woman’s ears and nose.
I can’t help but laugh hard.
“You’re what?” she shouted.
I even covered my mouth with the intensity of my laughter. My shoulders moved violently because of that.
“You’re annoying!”
I could hardly follow the next ones and just cried because of the pain. The girl is suddenly tweaking me. My laughter suddenly turned into screams and cries for help.
But come to think of it, even if the kid tweaks, I still can’t stop laughing. That jerky Cormac, what potion did he gave to the kid?
A few minutes later, I heard Cormac’s voice, “Sanya!”
“Sanya, what are you doing?” The nun asked as well.
Soon they were able to separate us. This is just getting crazier. I didn’t fight the woman, and she just pulled my hair apart, but I couldn’t stop laughing.
“Is that true?” the young woman, Sanya said abruptly after we parted.
I was able to fix my hair before finally turning to them.
“What happened, Sanya? Why did you do that to Miss Avery?”
Instead of answering the nun, Sanya just stared sharply at Cormac, who also didn’t seem to know what to do.
“Are you engaged?!” The girl is throwing tantrums.
Seriously, how old is this kid really?
“Engaged?” Cormac’s eyes widened at that question, then quickly turned to me.
“But you told me–”
“Sanya, Avery, and I, we need to talk,” Cormac said coldly before he attended and pulled me away from that place.
When we left, we couldn’t stop laughing. “What was that? Did she go crazy because of you?”
“You shouldn’t have done that, Avery!” I was surprised by Cormac’s growl. He looks very pissed.
“What? Are you tolerating that girl? That’s why she behaves like that–”
“She’s with her treatment! She has PSTD! You should just let it go!”
I quickly removed my right arm from his grip, disgusted.
Why do I still seem to be at fault?. He was the first to shout, and most especially, I don’t know who that girl is either.
“She’s with her treatment. She has PSTD, so stop tolerating her and feeding her up with those lies!” I shouted back.
Cormac closed his eyes tightly at what I said, holding back. “And what did you do? Didn’t you fed her your lies, too? We’re not even engaged!”
I lost the laughs in my system, and my face became serious. I can’t understand the man, but it seems like I can’t understand how I feel now.
I looked straight at him before saying, “You are trash.”
I quickly turned my back on him and walked away from there. The truth is, I don’t know that place, and I don’t have my belongings, but it’s up to me. All I can think about is getting stuck.Download Novelah App
