Chapter 23 Break Room

Yumi arrived at Fiery Corp.'s building the next day, her thoughts on her conversation with Luke and her ulterior motive to find Lawrence. She had to tread carefully, keeping her true intentions hidden.
She noticed Luke in his office and gently knocked on the doorframe. As he saw her, he looked up, a warm smile on his face. "Yumi, come in. Is everything alright?"
Yumi stepped into his office, returning his smile as she nodded. "Yeah, everything's fine. I just needed to discuss a few work-related matters since my book isn’t done yet. I wanted to help you."
Luke gestured for her to take a seat, his gaze attentive. "Of course, anything you need."
As they delved into the work-related topics, Yumi kept a mental note of her real goal: to find Lawrence and discreetly question him about his involvement in the case. She had to be strategic, making sure her questions didn't arouse suspicion.
After a while, Yumi casually brought up Lawrence. "I have noticed Lawrence has been very dedicated to his work; he appears to be a loyal employee."
Luke nodded in agreement. "Yes, Lawrence has been with us for about a decade, and he's been an asset to the company. His dedication is admirable."
Yumi pretended to be interested. "Has he ever mentioned anything about his personal life? I think it is important to get to know our coworkers better."
Luke leaned back in his chair, considering her question. "Not much, really. He's always been quite reserved, but I do know that he's been focused on his career here."
Yumi nodded, hiding her disappointment. She had hoped to gather more information about Lawrence's potential involvement. However, she was determined not to give up easily.
"Thanks for the insight," Yumi said with a smile. "I'll be sure to continue building a rapport with him."
Why have you suddenly brought him up in our conversation?” Luke asked, assuming that Yumi might find Lawrence interesting.
“Nothing. I just remembered that he encouraged me when you rejected my work,” Yumi replied. “Aside from you, I also remembered him for being kind.”
“Alright.”
As their conversation shifted back to work matters, Yumi's mind raced. She had to find another way to approach Lawrence to get him to reveal anything that could link him to the human trafficking operation. It was a delicate balance, and she couldn't afford to raise any suspicions with Luke.
As she left Luke's office later that day, Yumi's determination burned stronger than ever.
She didn’t expect Luke to see her talking with Lawrence earlier. His eyes were burning with jealousy.
Yumi's steps faltered slightly as she left Luke's office, her intuition sensing a change in the atmosphere. She turned her head, and her heart skipped a beat when she caught a glimpse of Luke watching her from a distance. His eyes held a mixture of emotions, and there was a fire in his gaze that she hadn't anticipated—jealousy.
Suppressing a wave of surprise, Yumi forced herself to remain composed. She couldn't afford to reveal any signs of her own emotions, especially when she was navigating such a delicate situation.
Quickly regaining her composure, Yumi continued down the hallway, her heart racing. She couldn't help but wonder what Luke might be thinking. Was he suspicious of her interactions with Lawrence? Did he think there was something more between them?
Over the next few days, Yumi kept a close eye on Luke's behavior. She noticed subtle changes, such as his distant demeanor, the occasional glances he cast her way, and a lingering tension whenever they interacted. Her conversation with Lawrence had clearly sparked something within Luke, something that was pushing the limits of their rekindled connection.
Yumi found herself alone in a small break room with Luke one afternoon. As they made small talk about work-related issues, the air was charged with an unspoken tension. Yumi sensed Luke's internal turmoil and knew she needed to address the elephant in the room.
"Luke, is something bothering you?" Yumi asked, her voice gentle.
He looked up, his expression guarded. "Why would anything be bothering me?"
Yumi met his gaze evenly, her eyes filled with sincerity. "I've noticed a change in your behavior lately. Is there something you want to talk about?"
Luke paused, his gaze flitting. "It's nothing, really. Just... a lot on my mind."
Yumi pressed on, her intuition telling her that there was more to his words. "Luke, we've been through so much together. If something is bothering you, I want to know. We can face it together."
His gaze softened, and Yumi could see the conflict in his eyes. "It's just... I saw you talking to Lawrence the other day, and I couldn't help but feel... jealous."
Yumi's heart skipped a beat at his confession, her own emotions swirling within her. She hadn't expected Luke to be so candid, and her admiration for his honesty grew even stronger.
"Luke, there's no need to be jealous," Yumi reassured him, her voice sincere. "My interactions with Lawrence were purely work-related. You're the one I'm here for."
He looked at her, his expression a mix of relief and vulnerability. "I know, but... I can't help it. I care about you, Yumi."
Yumi took a step closer, closing the distance between them. "And I care about you too, Luke. We're in this together, no matter what challenges come our way."
In that moment, the tension between them seemed to dissipate, replaced by a renewed sense of connection and understanding. Yumi knew that their journey was far from over, and the road ahead would be fraught with challenges. Yet she was more determined than ever to uncover the truth, protect the innocent, and navigate the complexities of their feelings—all while staying true to her mission and the promise she had made to bring justice to those who needed it most.
"Is the door closed?" Luke asked, smirking and flirtingly looking at Yumi.
Yumi was acting naive when she asked, "Why?" Of course, she and Luke hadn’t had sex for a month.
"Well, I just want to take a break," Luke teased, gently pushing Yumi against the wall.
"I already locked it," Yumi said, wrapping her arms around him.
Yumi felt a rush of both excitement and anxiety as Luke pushed her against the wall in a playful manner. The tension between them had shifted once more, this time to a more intimate and charged level. Her heart raced as she felt his breath against her skin. Luke's hands were already searching her bosom. Yumi couldn’t stop herself from moaning softly. She was afraid that somebody might hear them.
As his arms gently encircled her, Yumi's own arms tightened around him. She looked up into his eyes, a mix of emotions swirling within her. The weight of her mission, the dangers they were facing, and the feelings they were trying to navigate all converged in that moment.
Yumi whispered, her voice a blend of caution and longing.
He leaned in, his lips hovering close to hers. "Yumi, I know we are in the midst of something bigger than us, but I cannot deny what I am feeling: I desperately want to cherish you, kiss you, and own you right now."
His words sent a shiver down Yumi's spine, and for a moment, she was torn between giving in to the intensity of their emotions and staying true to her duty.
"Luke, I..." Yumi began, her voice trailing off as her mind raced. She knew that getting involved romantically with Luke could complicate their mission and cloud their judgment.
When he sensed her hesitation, he stepped back slightly, giving her space. "I understand; I was just letting you know how I felt."
Yumi met his gaze, her heart torn between her desire for a future with Luke and the responsibility she felt toward the mission. She took a deep breath, her resolve strengthening.
"Luke, I care about you deeply," Yumi admitted, her voice soft but resolute. "But we're in the middle of something that requires our full attention. Let's focus on work, and once we've accomplished that, we can see where things go."
He nodded, his expression a mixture of understanding and disappointment. "You're right. The work comes first. But I really miss you."
Yumi reached up, gently cupping his cheek. "But that doesn't mean our feelings aren't valid. It just means we need to be patient and careful."
A small smile tugged at the corners of Luke's lips. "You're amazing, Yumi."
She leaned in and kissed his cheek softly. "And you're pretty amazing too."
Their proximity held a promise—a promise that their feelings would be acknowledged and explored once their work for the day was completed. But before Yumi could leave the break room, Luke drew her in and hugged her.
"I can't hold back anymore, Yumi," Luke pleaded, desire evident in his eyes. He spoke with a sense of urgency that reflected the intensity of their emotions. "Don't worry, this room is soundproof. We have the privacy we need."
Yumi's heart raced as she looked into Luke's eyes, his words igniting a fire within her. She took a moment to consider his plea, knowing that giving in to their desires could have consequences for their mission. But in that moment, the pull between them was too strong to resist.
A mischievous smile tugged at the corners of Yumi's lips. "Alright, let's make it quick then."
With a shared understanding, their lips met in a passionate kiss, igniting a spark that had been building between them. Their urgency was palpable as they quickly shed their inhibitions, and the atmosphere was charged with a mix of longing and anticipation.
Yumi's shirt joined the growing pile of discarded clothes on the floor, and she positioned herself on top of Luke, guiding him to sit in a nearby chair. Their bodies pressed against each other, and the heat between them was both physical and emotional.
They found comfort in the familiarity of their touch as their hands explored each other's contours. Their kisses became more passionate, their breaths mingling in the air as their desire grew stronger. The space around them seemed to vanish, leaving only them in a passionate embrace.
As they surrendered to their emotions, time seemed to stand still, their bodies moving in unison with an unspoken understanding. Their bond was a mix of raw desire and a deeper, more profound affection that had developed over time.
Their emotions were running wild as they cuddled in each other's arms. The room seemed to heat up in response to their passion, as if reflecting the heat between them.
Yumi and Luke found a temporary reprieve from the complexities of their lives in those intimate moments. The sound of their shared laughter filled the air as they relished the warmth of each other's touch.
But as the room heated up and their connection grew stronger, a reminder of the importance of their mission lingered in the back of their minds. They knew this stolen moment of intimacy would have to end, giving way to the challenges that lay ahead.
With a shared sigh, Yumi and Luke reluctantly pulled away from each other, their gazes filled with a mixture of longing and understanding. That was also the moment that they reached the climax of their intimate business in the room.
"Luke, you are so good," Yumi murmured, gently biting and licking his ears.
"Yeah, I know, and you are also amazing; let us do this more often," Luke flirtatiously suggested.
"But not in this place. It was so thrilling while doing this with you. I am afraid we might get caught," she admitted, cuddling Luke as they both rested for a while before fixing themselves.
