Chapter 6 Childhood Love

Flashback:
"You're always hurting your daughter, you don't feel sorry for the kid!" Mother Lingling exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around Yumi. While Yumi was hiding in the back, her own brother's knife was aimed at her, and all she could do was back away.
"I'm only asking for money, Lingling, so if you can't help, I'll sell Yumi instead. Don't try to stop me!" Yumi's father, who was under the influence of illegal drugs, growled. Yumi's scream became more audible.
"Don't sell me, dad; I'm going to work in this mansion! Just don't try to sell me!" Yumi begged, hugging her father as if she didn't recognize him. Fear remained to her even as she approached his father who refused to let go of the knife he was holding.
"Yumi, don't get any closer!" yelled Mother Lingling. Yumi's father's mind has been demonized. He has lost sight of his own daughter. Yumi approached even closer, and her father was about to stab her in the face, so Mother Lingling stopped her and fought her with the knife.
Until Yumi noticed the blood on the floor. Mother Lingling's palm was cut while retrieving the knife. Her father was so powerful that she also assisted Mother Lingling in recovering the knife, and the next scene became a foreshadowing of their lifelong deluge.
Yumi shoved her father and thrust the knife into his stomach. Her vision was blurred due to her excessive crying. She killed her own father by accident.
'Papa …'
Mother Lingling was taken aback and immediately hugged her brother, who was lying on the floor with blood all over him. He died in an instant.
Mother Lingling's tearful litany filled her with remorse and pity for her own brother. When the light turned on in the room where it all happened, they were taken aback. Dante had been standing at the door earlier.
"I witnessed everything. You killed him, kid! " Dante laughed devilishly. Yumi tried to hide in the corner while crying.
"No. Sir Dante, I murdered my brother. He attempted to harm Yumi. I'm willing to accept full responsibility for everything. I should be imprisoned instead of my innocent niece," Mother Lingling pleaded, still hugging her late sister.
"Well, I'll do you a favor. We can claim that everything was an accident or a form of self-defense. But only under one condition. Deal? " Dante approached Yumi with a smile.
"What if your aunt is locked up for a crime she did not commit? Can you stand it if that happens? You're too young to be imprisoned, but what about your aunt? Can you be imprisoned for an extended period of time? Will you be able to sleep for the entire life if your conscience allows it? "
Yumi's fear grows as Dante threatens.
"I'm prepared to go to jail because I care about my aunt."
"However, no one can be imprisoned if you allow me to assist you. I can even assist you in covering up the crime. Will you please do me a favor? It's difficult when your aunt is incarcerated. How can she pay what she owes me just for you? And one more thing, I can sue her because it's against the rules for him to allow an outsider in. I've also heard that your aunt is covering up your father's criminal offense because he's also using illegal drugs. I caught your father stealing here just last month, and I have video proof. Choose wisely: will you do the favor I request or will you both be imprisoned?" Dante laughed sharply and devilishly.
Few days later, Dante eventually assisted them in covering up the crime after convincing both Mother Lingling and Yumi. He first allowed Mother Lingling to take a work leave in order to persuade his wife that Yumi would take over by caring for Luke, but his wife was strongly opposed to the idea.
"All Luke wants is Mother Lingling. Now that Mother Lingling must depart, how can we persuade Luke that someone, and it must be a different person, must take charge of him?" Nelia, Dante's wife, was concerned.
"You do realize his brother died recently, don't you? That's why her niece Yumi is staying here for a while," Dante explained. Then he looked at Yumi, who was clearly still terrified of him.
"But this is Yumi; she needs to be with Lingling so she can attend her father's funeral. Unfortunately, if she is left here, she must be grieving as well." Nelia felt sorry for Yumi as she closed her eyes. She just bowed down and appeared to be holding back tears.
"No. She can't bear the thought of her father lying in a coffin." Dante wanted to emphasize something in that section. Yumi became even more tense.
"It's okay; I also need help paying off our debt, and that's fine with me," Yumi said tearfully.
"No, are we being too harsh on you?" Is it really safe? " Nelia was not convinced; she knew something was wrong in this part. But in the end, she just agreed that Yumi would take care of Luke first.
Yumi learned that doctors are preparing to restore Luke's sight and that his operation is quickly approaching. Her conscience seemed to swallow her up as he watched Luke sleep peacefully. She couldn't stand what Dante was asking of her.
He wanted to give Luke a drug that would make his mental illness worse so that the operation could be postponed again. According to Dante, Luke's condition will soon be really stable and he does not want him to heal because he knows that Nelia intends to separate from him and Luke will inherit the company built by his wife; It's only a second reason they wanted to have children so they adopted Luke.
Yumi was already holding the pill to give Luke to take when he woke up. Dante tells him never to speak because Luke will be rattled when he finds out someone else is watching over him. Mother Lingling was the first to know his mood and how to handle him; he trusted the lady more than anybody else. Yumi was unaware that Luke was awake. She could not see if his eyes were open because he was tilted to sleep.
Luke feels the surroundings. He knew that his state of mind was stable now and he knew that he had someone in the room with him but he didn't even move because he wanted to make sure that what he heard was not hallucinations.
"I'm sorry papa..." Luke heard the girl's accented voice but he didn't move from his sleeping position.
"I still know the legend you told before, when you were a sensible father," added the girl Yumi.
"Legend of the firefly..." she whispered but his sobs were louder.
"Once upon a time, there was a man who was proud of himself. Whoever he sees he will mock. The man wanted to marry a beautiful girl. One day, he saw a fairy who was very beautiful. But instead of praising her, the man mocked her. In fact, what he said was contrary to his attitude. He really admires the beauty of that girl.
The fairy was offended. As punishment, he made the man a ladybug and he would only return to his true form if he could find a beautiful maiden. So the young man who had become a beetle searched all night and held the torch in his hand. Soon, the young ladybug became a firefly. Its buttocks are glowing and the view is in the darkness of the majority."
It was as if Yumi was just reciting a speech even though she was whispering. Luke thought, maybe the young girl's voice is not an imagination anymore. He had someone in the same room so he was able to roll over and dig on each side of the bed.
"Who are you? What's your name? Just continue your story..." Luke continued to grope until he was the first to give up and was no longer curious because he hadn't heard anything yet.
"Maybe— I'm only imagining it," he uttered with deep frustration.
Yumi closed her eyes tightly and covered her mouth again. She decided to just guide the boy in taking his medicine.
"Mother Lingling? Are you with someone now? What's her name? "
Yumi was even more nervous at Luke's question. But even so, she was still unable to speak. As for Luke, he immediately felt something strange. It doesn't seem like Mother Lingling is watching over him now. So, as he brought the glass of water closer to her, he quickly grabbed her hands. The hand he was holding was not rough and it was as small as his palm. So he confirmed that Mother Lingling was not with him.
"Who are you?" Luke asked nervously. His tears were also about to well from his eyes.
"Don't be afraid, I'm Yumi. My aunt is Nanay Lingling. She's gone now so I'll take care of you first. I'm just your age, I'm just a child," Yumi introduced.
"I mean, you're not an imagination. I mean, can we be friends? Because Mother Lingling is kind, I know you're like that to me. Why were you crying earlier? Is your father hurting you too?" Luke asked a series of questions.
Yumi gobbled several times before she answered him.
"I'm ready to make friends. Just don't scold me. When I say you should take medicine, you'll take medicine to get well. Is that okay?"
"But why are you crying?"
"My father died in an accident. So Mother Lingling is not here now because she will take care of the funeral," Yumi admitted.
"Why don't you go with him?"
"To whom? To my father or to Mother Lingling?"
Luke laughed slightly. "For Mother Lingling."
"No one will watch over you if I come to my father's wake. Besides, I can't bear to see papa in the coffin," Yumi reasoned.
"I hope you'll be strong. I know it hurts to lose a parent. I've experienced it too." There was a hint of sadness in Luke's voice.
"Yes, I'm going to settle down because I'm the only one with Nanay Lingling." Yumi let out a bitter smile after still sighing.
"Take your medicine. Okay?"
Luke just nodded. On the other hand, he was curious as to what Yumi looked like because he envisioned that she was beautiful.
