Part 7

Wisdom ride drove into the premises of the shopping mall and parked. Wisdom got out of the car and closed it. He began walking away, forgetting his boxes in the car.
The driver beeped the car horn to call him. He turned back with a questioning visage. "You left your luggage in my car", the driver said to him.
"Oh!", he exclaimed and hurriedly ran back to the car. He brought out his boxes and closed the back seat. The driver drove off. "Thank you!", Wisdom waved at him.
He began wandering about the shopping mall, dragging along his boxes. He was noticing people staring at him strangely as he walked past them, making him uncomfortable.
There was even an elderly woman that stared at him very weirdly and he stared back at her with a perplexed countenance. They even walked past each other but turned back to keep on staring at each other. Wisdom kicked his leg against a stone and fell down flat with his boxes.
He got up after some time of groaning with anger. "Why's a stone here in a shopping mall?", he looked at it angrily.
A young man of his age or so approached him. "Uhmmm", he looked at Wisdom's luggage in worry, "Hope you know this isn't an airport?", he gave out a worried smile.
"Airport?", Wisdom squeezed his face, in a state of whirl. He looked at his boxes and thought for a very short while. "Oh!", he reacted, "That's why everyone was staring strangely at me", he said.
"I know this is a shopping mall. I came here with my luggages because I'm lodging in at a hotel today and someone told me to meet him here so he could pick me up", he explained to the stranger.
Careen's Dad wound down his glass and sighted Wisdom a couple of distance away. "Why's he with two large boxes? How long does he think he'll be staying there?", he shook his head in letdown. He beeped his horn and Wisdom spotted him in his car. He gestured for Wisdom to come over.
"That's the person", Wisdom told the stranger, using his head to point towards the car. The stranger turned behind and saw the car. "I have to go", he patted the stranger at the shoulder and left, dragging his luggage along.
Wisdom entered the back seat first before bringing in his boxes. After he closed the door, he greeted;"Good morning Sir! Good morning Careen!"
"Good morning Wisdom", she replied. She was sitting in front at the passenger seat.
"So what's the plan?", asked Wisdom.
Mr Eddie signalled something to Careen and she picked up a big waterproof bag and gave it to Wisdom. Wisdom collected the bag and opened it. After he brought out a couple of stuffs, he realized the bag contained things they would use to cover their identities. "Oh! First step! We need to be under cover", he said.
"I prepared fake CVs for the both of you", he brought out two files from the glove compartment, "Here they are", he raised them up. After reviewing them, he gave each their file. "Here's your own", he gave to his daughter, "And here's yours", he gave to Wisdom.
"How about the micro earpiece?", Careen asked her Dad.
"They're in a case in the bag you gave to Wisdom", he replied.
"Yes! I've seen them", Wisdom indicated with a raise of hand.
"Make sure you guys read over your CVs and know what your names will be in the course of investigation", he instructed them. They both said they'd check them out.
"Let's get going them", he turned on ignition, "Start working on your disguise", he instructed and drove off.
     *                      *                      *
They drove into the Heavens Gate Hotel. It was an extreme heavenly beauty indeed, beautifully decorated with colourful natural flowers. The buildings were painted in golden colour. The security men were dressed in golden coloured plain shirts with cravats and black plain pair of trousers. The shirts had the logo of the hotel on them. They were all attending to one thing or the other, like the ones that directed Mr Eddie to where he should park his car.
"Woah! This place is awesome", Wisdom was amazed, looking through the glass childishly.
"What a heavenly place to investigate on people", Careen appraised the place.
"Wisdom rummage in that bag and brought out two glasses" Mr Eddie looked at him in the rearview mirror.
Wisdom she so and brought out two eye glasses. "Found them", he said.
"Give one to Careen", the Chief Constable adjured. Wisdom handed one over to Careen. "The glasses have minute cameras on them that will enable Nicholas and Sarah know what's happening around you", he explained, "You don't have to wear it every single time...we'll inform you when to put them on over the micro earpiece", he added. The mention of earpiece reminded Careen and Wisdom to put them on. They were already in disguise.
"So are we done Dad?", asked Careen.
"Uhmmm!", he checked both of them out to be sure everything was intact. After a fair judgement;"You guys can go, good luck!"
They both went out of the car after bidding him farewell with their luggages. Careen was with a single box, Wisdom was with two big boxes.
Careen this time had got her hair curled, she had a contact lens to change her eye colour to brown. Her eyebrows were now carved.
Wisdom sprayed his hair brown, put on a goatee, fixed a wig of dreadlocks and wore a moustache. He and Careen stared at the hotel's main building with amazement written on their faces.
"Put on your glasses", Nicholas's voice came from the earpiece.
"Roger that", Careen responded and both of them wore their eye glasses. "You're ready?", she asked Wisdom with a smile of bravery.
"I sure am", he replied, breathing in the fresh air around. They both walked up to the hotel's entrance in casual steps.
They got into the hotel with luggages, and walked to the receptionist's office. "Welcome Ma'am! Welcome Sir", she greeted.
"We came here to apply for a job", Careen said to her.
The receptionist looked at their boxes in amazement. "But you're with your language", she said, clearing her throat.
"We're here to apply for a job as chefs...we heard the management is offering a job to chefs who can prepare Spanish recipes", Careen narrated.
"Oh yes! You'll need to go up to the first floor where the Manager's office is located. Use the lift", she pointed at it.
"Thank you very much", Careen replied with a grin. She and Wisdom left for the lift. They went in and got to the first floor. They asked a stranger for the Manager's office and she pointed at it for them to see...it was the office at the end of the corridor, opposite them. They thanked the stranger and traipsed down to the office.
Careen knocked on the door and opened it after a few seconds when she heard no response. They took their boxes inside with them. They were surprised to see no one in the office.
"Where did the Manager go?", Wisdom asked, closing the door. They heard the flushing of a toilet and the sound was coming from behind another door that was opposite them, directly behind the Manager's seat. Both of them looked at each other and then the door with confusion written on their faces.
The door was opened and a man dressed on an ask suit walked out the room. He saw their baggages and guessed they were the applicants. "I'm guessing you two are the applicants", he said, putting on the button on his suit and had his seat.
"Yes Sir!", both replied in unison.
"So what are your names?", he inquired of them. They were in a hurry to reply but realized they had not read over their CVs. They looked at each other and then at the Manager making this prolonged "Uhh" sound, thinking of what to do.
"What's going on please?", the Manager gestured, looking worried.
"Nothing Sir", Careen gave out a dramatic smile. She placed her file on her lap in a hurry to find out what her fake name would be. Wisdom did the same thing and beckoned on the Manager to hold on for a while. He gazed at them in utmost bamboozlement.
"My name is Chioma Maduka", Careen stuttered, with a smile that appeared suspicious.
"My name is Obinna Maduka", Wisdom also stuttered.
"Wait! We're siblings?", they asked each other, looking confused.
"Oh! He's my brother!", she hugged Wisdom by the side, smiling at the Manager widely.
"And she's my sister", said Wisdom with a faint smile.
"Can both of you tell me what's going on?", the Manager got slightly annoyed.
"Is there anything going wrong?", Careen acted not to understand what he was asking about.
"Are you guys imposters?", he wore a face of suspicion.
"No! That's the way Obinna, MY BROTHER and I always Introduce ourselves", Careen tried really hard to conceal her anxiety.
"Yes! That's our signature thing", Wisdom behaved casual.
The Manager sighed and shook his head, trying to overlook everything happening. "You two brought your belongings...how sure do you feel it's the both of you we'll pick out of all the applicants that have applied for this same job?", he asked them.
"Wait! Many people have already applied?", Wisdom became worried...so was Careen.
"Well", he felt slightly ashamed, "It's only a soul that has come here before you two, and that was two weeks ago", he said, "She even told me it's Russian cuisines she could offer", he had a grimace on his face.
"So that means we're good to go?", Careen asked, already showing off her happiness.
"First of all...tell me what Spanish recipes you can offer our guests?", the Manager stared at them intently.
"Well...I'm good at preparing Tortilla Espanola", Careen began.
"Yes Tortilla Espanola", Wisdom repeated to show he was with her.
"I'm good at making Gazpacho", said Careen.
     "Yes! Gazpacho", Wisdom added.
"I'm good at making Pulpo a la gallega", said Careen, pronouncing the name with difficulty.
"Yes! Pulpo...", Careen stepped on his toe, "Ouch!!", he exclaimed, then closed his mouth and smiled at the Manager dramatically. "I'm just so excited...that's why", he made up an excuse. The Manager focused his eyes on Careen, not wanting to mind what Wisdom did.
"And Patatas Bravas", Careen concluded with a proud but cheerful smile.
"You didn't just mention some Spanish recipes, you mentioned the top Spanish recipes", the Manager was impressed.
"So when are we starting our work?", asked Careen, already confident in getting the job.
"Today", he replied, "My Spanish guests will be arriving today", he spoke with urgency.
"That's not a problem Sir. We can start today", replied Wisdom, interrupting Careen from talking.
"That's great", he giggled, "Your room is ready. Go back to the receptionist and tell her you two got the job and she'll give you the key card to your apartment reserved for our  special chefs", he informed them.
Both of them thanked him in response, promising not to let him down and he shook hands with them. They got up and took their boxes with them to leave the office.
Immediately Wisdom opened the door, they heard a sound from behind and turned quickly to find out what had caused the sound. It was a lady who had fallen out of the restroom to the office flat on the floor. They looked at the Manager and saw he was looking downwards in shame. The lady who fell out was a worker in the hotel.
"I'm sorry Sir. I lost balance because of my shoe", she kept an expression, showing she was in serious trouble.
"Let's go and commence our work Sir", Careen said calmly. The Manager said nothing, behaving sheepishly. He could not even look them in the eyes. Careen signified to Wisdom they needed to go and both of them left the office.
"Sir they're gone. We could continue what with we were doing" the worker said to him, hoping it would make me happy. She was still on the floor. The Manager looked at her with a very angry face and she swallowed hard, knowing she was really in trouble for sure.
"Good job mates! First step a success!", Nicholas spoke to them over the earpiece.
"You can take off the glasses now but always be with them", Sarah instructed.
"Got it", Careen responded, taking off her glasses and putting it in her breast pocket. Wisdom kept in his trouser pocket. They got into the elevator to take them back down.
