They arrived at their apartment, 125. Wisdom brought out the hotel key card and gazed at the door, not knowing where to slot it in. "Give me that", Careen took it away forcefully from him. She opened the door and they dragged their boxes in with them into the apartment. The apartment was the exact place you would call heavenly. A two-bedroom apartment, painted beautifully in the Heavens Gate usual colours, black and gold. "I'm talking the other room", said Careen, ambulating into the second room. Wisdom crashed to his need and soughed, feeling very tired. He heard a knock on the door but ignored it. "Go get the door Wisdom", Careen's voice came from the other room. "Ugh!", he groaned and reluctantly got up to go open the door. He opened it and saw some lady with some neatly kept and folded clothes. "Are the clothes for us?", he asked. "Yes Sir! Where is the other person?", the lady inquired. "I'm right here", replied Careen, opening the door wider for the lady to see her. "These outfits are for you", she said. She gave a chef apron to Careen but for Wisdom, she gave him a baggy ash coloured shirt and a baggy pair of trousers. "Why are these for me?", he asked, squeezing his face in disgust. "We ran out of supplies for chef aprons", the lady replied in an apologetic manner. "But why then...", Wisdom wanted giving out a niggle but was cut short by Careen. "Thank you very much Ma", she collected the clothes meant for Wisdom and closed the door. "There's no way I'm wearing that nonsense", he said outright. "You've got no other choice", she smirked at him and dropped his work clothes on the bed just before she hurriedly went off to her room to change up. "I've never been insulted in my entire life", he looked at his clothes with a straight face. "Except from my Dad", he thought. * * * Careen walked out of her room into Wisdom's room, dressed in her work cloth. She saw him sitting on his bed with folded arms and a frown on his face. He was already dressed in his own work cloth. "Awnn! Someone's very handsome today", she ribbed him. "It's not funny", he replied with contempt. Another knock was heard at the door. Careen traipsed towards it, opened it and saw the Manager standing at the door. "Let me show you your kitchen", he gestured. Wisdom joined them and expressed unhappiness. "Why am I wearing this?", he grumbled. "It's very nice on you right?", the Manager admired his outfit. Careen hit her side against his playfully. "That's the same thing I told you." Wisdom shook his head in disappointment. "Please follow me", the Manager led the way and they followed him. As they walked down the corridor, Careen tried calling on Nicholas and Sarah. "Testing 1, 2, 3", she said. The Manager turned back in surprise. "What is going on?", he asked her. "I'm just practising how to relate with my colleagues", she replied with a hammy simper. The Manager got confused, finding her reply absurd. "Chioma...I think I'd have preferred your name being SARAH!", he called the name loudly. The Manager covered his ears because of the loud noise, gazing at him, expressing this "Why did you do that?" visage. Wisdom only cleared his throat and stayed comported. No response was heard from both Nicholas and Sarah still. Both of them were fast asleep in the computer laboratory. The Chief Constable entered the soundproof room looking annoyed. He had a nose round and spotted a megaphone somewhere close to them. He picked it up, holding it close to them. "Wake up and get to work!!", he yelled at them through the megaphone. They woke up immediately and fell off their chairs, covering their ears from the loud noise. Careen's and Wisdom's reaction to the loud noise was ludicrous. They fell down and rolled all over the place covering their ears tightly. Their moan of pain was heard in the computer laboratory and Careen's Dad realized his blunder, swiftly dropping the megaphone on the floor. Nicholas and Sarah got up quickly and sat on their respective seats. They asked Careen and Wisdom if they were okay. "Are you okay Careen?", asked her Dad, feeling guilty. Both of them got up and saw the Manager staring at them, looking petrified. "Why did the both of you fall down covering your ears?", he questioned. "We were or ARE very excited to be serving such important people. That was why we rolled on the floor", Careen gave a very stupid excuse. The Manager gaped at them, totally dumbfounded. "I know right! We're very weird people...just bear with us", Wisdom apologized with a simper. The Manager managed to shut up his mouth but was really hell shocked. They were in a lift all along when this drama was taking place. They got to the ground floor and the lift opened up. "Oh see! We're at the ground floor and people are waiting for us to come out", Careen pointed behind him. She mainly wanted to change the topic. Both of them left the lift before the Manager. "Just because of my Spanish friends and that no one else but them applied for the job, wouldn't have tolerated all of these", he thought, heaving a sigh and joining them outside. They strolled past the restroom section, the massage parlour before stopping in front of an unknown room. The Manager opened the door and gestured for them to go in with a smile. They went in and what they beheld left them awestruck. It was their own personal kitchen. It had all the things a classy kitchen is expected to have; a refrigerator and a deep freezer, two gas cookers, microwaves, blenders, oven and so on...all looking dazzling and expensive. "Woah!", was Wisdom's reaction ad he had a nose round the kitchen. What caught Careen's attention the most was the white hat decoration on the floor covering. "This is very beautiful Sir", she complimented. "Yes! Anything for my special guests", he replied with a nod. He then remembered something. "Speaking of special guests, they'll be here in no time", he said in a hurry. "What occasion is coming up if you don't mind?", asked Careen politely. "The seventeenth anniversary of this hotel's existence", he replied vaguely. Careen and Wisdom responded with a nod, showing how amazed they felt. "So start up something while I go welcome them and the chargé d'affaires at the entire", he hurriedly ambulated out of the kitchen. Wisdom went and closed the door. "Guys! The chargé d'affaires is actually lodging in here", Careen informed her colleagues over the micro earpiece. Wisdom leaned on a gas cooker. "Put on your glasses so we could know what's going on", her Dad adjured. "They'll be here any minute and we're expected to start cooking for the Spanish guests", she replied. "Fine then...get on with it but make sure to keep an eye open for him", the Dad replied with a sigh. "Okay Daddy", Careen responded. "You two remain here while I go attend to some important things", he instructed Nicholas and Sarah and left the computer lab. "Careen! Wisdom! Anytime you come up with updates, inform us", Sarah told them. "Roger that", both of them replied in sync. Careen had a glimpse all over the kitchen and could not find fruits, vegetables and other raw materials for cooking. "How do I start cooking when I'm only seeing cutleries and utensils?", she stretched her arms wide, showing a questioning countenance. The door was opened almost immediately by a worker who then gestured for others to go in. They were with grocery bags each as they went in. "These are groceries for your cooking", the worker who opened the door said to them. They kept the bags close to the bigger gas cooker. "Okay then! Let's begin", Careen turned to Wisdom. The worker that opened the door gestured again for the rest to leave and they did. He then wished both of them good luck with a smile and shut the door. "Just tell me what to do because I got no knowledge in cooking", Wisdom shrugged. "Let's first prepare Gazpacho", she said. "Okayy", he replied. He had never heard or seen such meal in his entire life. At that moment, all he knew was he was dependent on Careen. The door was opened again and it was another worker. "The Manager said you should also prepare a wonderful meal for the chargé d'affaires", he informed them. "No problem", Careen replied, "Just please ask him how many Spanish guests he'll be welcoming", she requested coolheadedly. "Okay Ma", he replied and closed the door. Careen turned to Wisdom, feeling a little bit happy. "Don't know why but I sense good news from that information", she said. Wisdom reacted with a shrug, smiling at the same time. ____________________________________ The chargé d'affaires is lodging in at the hotel...that really means there's something fishy going on.
