Chapter thirty seven

Dave POV
I felt the sunlight going into my eyes as I opened it up slowly. I sat up on the mat and yawned a bit. My head hurts. It hurts both it can't hurt as much as my heart. Or at least, if I still had one.
"Good morning!" I heard Oliver say.
"Yeah, morning." I replied.
"What's up Dave? You don't sound too good." He said.
"Nothing." I said.
"How long have I been asleep?" I asked.
"Not long enough I guess. You slept all through yesterday." He replied and sat with me.
"That long?" I asked.
"Yeah. You seemed very tired so I didn't bother to wake you up." He replied.
"I need to leave. I can't stay here." I said.
"Huh? Why not?" He asked.
"I can't just sit around doing nothing. My revenge won't come looking for me." I said.
"What really is your plan?" He asked me.
"Nothing." I said.
"Nothing?" He asked.
"Yes. Nothing at all. I'll let fate decide. And I know it will be in my favour." I replied.
"You can't just go walking about in the streets waiting for fate to decide. You will have to prepare yourself ahead of time." He said.
"I'll stay then. You will have to teach me everything you know on how to survive." I said.
"That's more like it." He said.
I lay back on the mat looking at the roof. I thought of all I've been through. I thought about my mother. I remember burying her in front of that house.
Oliver stood up and went outside. He came back after some minutes with something in his hand. I watched as he twisted something together.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"You'll see." He replied.
I stayed quiet and stared back at the roof.
"Done." He said.
"Done what?" I asked.
"If you are getting revenge then you need to be in shape at least." He said.
I gave it a thought and then agreed.
I stood up and he handed me the rope he had just twisted together.
"This is your new skipping rope." He said.
I started skipping immediately.
"Hm. You are really good at it. I was thinking you will start fumbling." He said.
"Determination can take you many places." I said.
"That's true." He said.
"I'll be back. I need to get us some food." He said.
"No. Get food but just yours. I'll get mine when I'm done." I said.
"Are you sure about that?" He asked.
"Yes. Very sure." I said.
"Okay then. Who am I to disagree with you?" He said.
Oliver stood up and left while I just continued to skip.
I continued skipping till my body began to shake. My body ached badly but I ignored the pain and concentrated on my motive. I concentrated on my revenge.
I don't have any family member left so what have I got to loose?
Oliver came back after some time.
"You are still at it?" He asked.
"Yeah why?" I asked.
"Well, nothing. Just that I've been gone for two hours." He said.
"I never noticed." I replied.
"Hm. If you say so." He replied.
"Okay." I said.
"I got us some food but it's not much. I figured..." He said.
"I told you not to get me anything didn't I?" I said.
"Sorry about that Dave. I didn't think you would reject it if I tried at least." He said.
"You can eat it. I will get mine when I'm done. From today onwards I will fend for myself." I said to him.
"Okay Dave. But no hard feelings right?" He asked.
"No. No hard feelings. You are my friend after all. I understand you just wanted to help me out." I said.
"Thanks." He replied.
By the looks on his face I could tell he already regret giving me the skipping rope before leaving.
I decided to put it down and go get some food.
"I will be right back." I said.
"Where are you going? He asked.
"To get some food for myself of course." I replied.
"So you are really not going to eat the one i brought for you?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm not." I replied.
Oliver stood up and followed me from behind.
"What are you doing?" I asked him.
"I'm following you." He replied.
"Not this time Oliver. I want to go on my own." I said.
"On your own?" He asked.
"Yes, on my own." I replied.
"But what if something goes wrong like the last time?" He asked.
"I can handle myself." I replied.
"And what if something goes wrong with someone while you are handling yourself?" He asked.
"Nothing will go wrong." I said.
"But what if..." He said.
"Enough with the what ifs. I'm going on my own and that's final." I said.
"Okay okay. No need to get angry at me." He said.
"Sorry about that." I said.
"It's no problem Dave. You can go. I'll be right here waiting for you." He said.
"Okay goodbye." I said.
Oliver went back into the building and I left. I walked and walked till I finally saw what I wanted.
A bakery. It's been such a long time since I last had a cake.
I looked at the bakery from afar first.
It looks like there won't be much people left inside.
I decided to go into the bakery first and confirm or at least know how many people were still inside.
I crossed the road in front of me and went straight into the bakery. I was surprised to see the bakery completely empty.
Oh my God.
I quickly rushed to the cake section and took all I wanted. I wanted to go but stopped right at the door.
Money. Where did they keep it?
I found the cash box and I took all the money it contained. I walked out of the bakery with happiness.
I ran to the uncompleted building when I was far enough from the bakery.
"Hey! Oliver! Look what I got!" I said.
I kept the stuff down at a corner and looked around for Oliver but couldn't find him.
"Put your hands up!" I heard a voice say.
I turned around and my knees trembled.
"P... P... Police..." I stammered.
