Chapter forty one

Dave POV
It's night time already and I had to leave their house.
"Take this blanket. It will keep you warm. At least before you reach your home. It's cold outside." The woman said.
"I don't think I need one." I replied.
"You don't have a home of your own in these parts do you?" She said.
"How did you know that?" I asked.
"Nothing much to explain. It's just that everyone in this neighborhood knows each other. I haven't seen you here before." She said.
"Also, my daughter had spotted you entering the uncompleted building through our room window. I figured you might just be homeless." She added.
I stood speechless for some time.
So that's the reason why she has been so nice to me and even offered me food...
Now she's giving me a blanket.
"Thank you so much madam. I don't know how to thank you enough." I said.
"It's no big deal." She replied.
She handed me the blanket and even gave me a sweater too.
I opened the front door and left their house.
I had planned to rob them but now I think it's better that I just let them be.
After all, they let me use their bathroom and also gave me food. And now even somethings to keep warm.
I'll try a different place tomorrow.
I looked around for the uncompleted building and entered once I found it.
I spread the blanket, given to me by the woman, on the floor and laid down on it.
I folded the blanket into too. In a way that one part would be in contact with the floor and the other half would cover my body.
I closed my eyes and fell into deep sleep...
... Dave? Dave! Dave! It's all your fault! You were so ignorant! You felt something was wrong but you did nothing! What kind of a son are you?!
No! Mother! No! Please! Don't hate me! Don't blame me! I didn't know! Please mother, I... I... I didn't...
...My eyes start to hurt and as opened them slowly.
It was a dream. That hell of a dream again! Why does her ghost torment me?! Why!
The same dream every night I spent in prison until now. It keeps repeating exactly the same words.
It's not my fault mother. I swear it isn't. I'll make the real culprit pay. He will pay for his deeds!
Unknown POV
"What do you mean there's a man asleep in the building?" I asked.
"Yes sir. There is really a man there. I saw him with my own two eyes." My security man replied.
"I see. So, what people are saying is true? About a man coming into this neighborhood yesterday and taking shelter in the uncompleted building." I said.
"Yes sir. It's true. There really is a man there." The security man replied.
"Hm. Take two extra men with you and get that man here. I want to find out more about him." I said.
"I will do just that sir." The security man replied.
He leaves my office and goes to do as I said.
How strange, for a man to sleep in an uncompleted building must mean that he is homeless.
Dave POV
I stood up from the blanket and folded it. I wouldn't want to sleep on a dirty blanket the next night.
I heard some footsteps behind me and I turned around.
There were three men behind me.
"Who are you people?" I asked.
"We work for Mr Benjamin." The first said.
"Who is he?" I asked.
"You don't know who Mr Benjamin is?" He replied.
"That only confirms that you are not from here." The second said.
"Just come with us. Our boss wants to speak with you." The third said.
"And what if I don't?" I replied.
"Then we will have to use force on you. You see, our boss owns this building and all other buildings here. I don't think you would like to get on his nerves." The second said.
"He doesn't like trespassers either." The first said.
I had no other choice but to follow them.
It's not like I can't just beat all three of them up. I was just curious and wanted to see the face of the rich man.
"Okay. You win. Let's go." I said.
They escorted me out of the uncompleted building and we continued to walk a long distance.
When we reached the rich man's mansion they stopped.
"Why did we stop here?" I asked.
They ignored me and one of them went to the side of the gate and made a call with something that was attached to the wall.
The gate opened automatically once he finished with the gate.
We all proceeded into the compound and then into the mansion.
This place is so wide and huge.
I kept looking everywhere as they directed me up the stairs.
I'm so tired. I never knew this man would be so far. He could have come down the stairs and waited for me if he wanted to meet me.
Look how much he is just stressing me out. My legs are aching so much.
After a long time of walking about in the hallway we finally stopped in front of a door.
I turned and I noticed an elevator was available the whole time.
"What?! There was an elevator the whole time?! Why did we walk up so much stairs?!" I asked
"We would be leaving you alone with our boss. Do you really think we would let you be in any position to hurt him." One of the men replied.
I felt like beating him up that very moment but I was too tired to do so.
If indeed I was going to attack their boss, this plan of theirs would have definitely worked in preventing me.
One of them opened the door and I went inside. He closed the door behind me and I was left in a room that looks exactly like an office.
"Welcome to my humble abode." A voice said.
I noticed a man at a desk with his seat turned away from me.
