Chapter forty five

"It's been such a long time. How have you been?" Kathryn asked.
"I'm fine and you?" I replied.
"Never been better." She said.
"Man. You haven't changed a bit Dave. You look exactly the same." She said.
"I can't say the same for you though. You look amazing." I said.
"Ehem!" Someone cleared his throat.
We both turned and Hilton was right behind us.
"Oh, hey hil... I mean boss. Good to see you've come out of your office." I said.
"Yeah. I see you've met the chef." Hilton said.
"Yes. As a matter of fact, I have. The food here is great so I thought I should meet the chef." I said.
"She turned out to be an old friend of mine." I added.
"Really? You never told me anything about her." He said.
"Ha ha ha. Hilton, we never knew each other for long." I said.
"Yeah, it was just a short while." Kathryn said.
"Let's just say she was someone who stood up for me when my former boss was laying abuses on me." I replied.
"Okay if you say so. I just don't like the way this reunion happened." Hilton said.
"Why?" I asked.
"I wanted to introduce you to her formally, I was thinking over dinner but it's all ruined now." Hilton said.
"What do you mean?" I asked in with an I am confused voice.
"I am his girlfriend." Kathryn said.
"Yes. And I'm her boyfriend. We are both dating." Hilton said as he stared into Kathryn's eyes.
"Wow! Mind-blowing! I did not see this coming. What a twist. I'm happy for you boss." I said.
"Glad you are. I was starting to think you liked her too." Hilton said.
"No way. You know very well what situation I am in Hilton. I don't have any time for relationships or feelings and stuff like that." I replied.
"What situation is that?" Kathryn asked.
"Nothing. You won't understand." I replied to Kathryn.
"Okay. I have to go back to work now." Hilton said.
He gave Kathryn a short kiss and made to leave.
"Wait I'm coming along. Let's go together." I said to Hilton.
I waved goodbye to Kathryn and walked side by side with Hilton.
Work for that day got over and I headed out of the company with Hilton.
His driver was already there and we entered the car.
We arrived home and alighted from the car. We walked right into the mansion and sat down on the sofas.
"Work is so stressful. Sometimes I wish we I was still a child with no worries." Hilton said.
"So do I. Being a child again and forgetting all about the troubles in this world." I said.
"Dave?" Hilton said.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Do you think this revenge of a thing is actually worth it? I mean, don't you think you are missing out in life?" Hilton asked.
"Hilton. You know me very well. And if you know me very well you would also know that once I set my mind on something I never back down till I achieve it." I said.
"Okay but..." Hilton said.
"I'm heading to my room. You should too." I interrupted.
Nothing is going to talk me out of this.
I walked up the stairs and into my room. I lay on the bed. Facing the wall, I thought of Hilton's words.
Am I really missing out in life?
Authoress POV
Dave has never taken out time to think about his own future. Maybe that's why Hilton's words got him asking himself a lot of questions.
What will his life be like in the future?
After his revenge what next?
What about having his own family?
He kept asking himself different questions. He even wondered if truly, getting revenge was worth it.
He wondered if it was worth it storing all that hate in him for the coming years.
What do you, the readers, think about this situation of Dave's?
Would you do what Dave is doing? Would you let go of the past?
I would love to read your opinions about this in the comment section.
Hilton POV
I'm worried Dave. I know I said I would be with him all the way but... This whole thing just seems like a waste of time now.
Loosing a mother is painful, I agree. Especially when you know who caused it and how it happened.
But now that I think of it, this is something that Dave should have somehow managed to put behind him.
After all, it happened five years ago. I just hope he moves on after everything.
And I hope that this decision of his doesn't leave him in a miserable state.
I want nothing but the for my best friend, that's why I will keep trying to make him change his mind.
"Christy!" I called out.
The maid came out of the kitchen and straight to me.
"I'm at your service sir." She said.
"Just get me a glass of blue wine from the bar." I said.
"Yes sir." She replied.
She left and went straight to the bar.
After a short while she arrived with a glass of blue wine in a small tray. I only took the glass of wine from it.
"Thank you. I said.
"Okay sir." She said.
The maid left with the tray and I was alone, once again, in the living room. Thinking about nothing else but Dave.
I can only hope that what the future holds for him won't be bad.
I retired to my room since it was already very late.
On my way to my room I thought I might as well check on Dave.
I walked to Dave's room and and knocked on his door. He didn't answer even after I knocked trice.
I opened the door and the light was still turned on.
He must be having nightmares. He only leaves the lights on whenever he or thinks he will.
I left the lights on, closed Dave's room door and went to mine.
