Chapter 40

"How dare all of you to ignore my children and almost trample them and then, coming to me with those pretentious smiles?" I heard could not hear Dad clearly but I bet my three older brothers heard him because they either chuckled or smirked.
I just found out what was the signal about when we arrived on a round table that was reserved for us. They sat on their usual seat and saved our father's seat empty. Amo placed me between Maxwell and Maxillary and sat beside the other empty seat.
The table was lower than the table in the Manor since children of my age would be attending this banquet too so I could now reach the table without Daddy's help.
"Millian, can we please call the servants for the snacks before the main course?" Maxwell cringed, looking unsatisfied with the desserts infront of us.
Brother Millian only nodded before he rose up from his seat and went somewhere.
"Brother Lein. Your collar is a mess." Maxillary told Brother Lein and pointer at the messy part.
"Oh!" he exclaimed and tried to fixed it. Why did I only realized right now? Their suits and my dress were pairs! We have the same blue and green theme, and designs were not too far away from what each other looks like.
I think I am getting it. This were not even our clothes in the past.
"Do you want anything, Maxine?" Amo asked me but I just smiled at him and shooked my head before giving my thanks.
Brother Millian came back while they talked about stuff as if they did not have plans interacting with the rest of people here.
I was just listening to their senseful conversation when I noticed the other noble's children. They were forming a group but what caught my attention was they were all looking at our table with something different in their eyes.
When I looked at them closely, they were not just looking at our direction, they were looking at 'me' specifically with those different eyes.
I looked at my brothers who were chatting normally but looking like grown up young noble men who were talking, debating not politics but about a certain girl which was really a girl.
Me, in short.
Wait. Do not tell me, they were really planning to stay still here until the end of the party just like the usuals?
Oh no. This must not end just like this. If they really did not plan, in this case, I would not be able to leave their side.
Do they have no friend at all from the academy?
I glanced again to those group of children who were now acting like there was really something fishy going on. Hmm.
I went down silently from my seat but my brothers still noticed me.
"Do want to go to the sitting room?" Maxwell asked and helped me to descend properly. He maybe thought I was getting tired but its not that.
I need an escape plan.
"Uhm... No..." I hesitantly answered and looked away. I did not know if they would let me go on what I want to do right at this moment.
"T-"
"I am planning to play with the other kids." I butted in while pointing at the kids before Brother Amo could even talk about something.
"Huh?" they asked in unison with confuse painted on their faces even Brother Millian who quickly cleared his throat. That was a ane fast reaction.
They looked at each other as if their eyes were talking or they have some telepathic abilities which I could prove none.
After looking at each other, they looked at me again.
"Hmm..."
"Ano..."
"Uhm..."
They tried to say something in chorus but they did not come up with anything but then, it was Maxillary who talked first.
"You cannot." he refused shortly.
Millian stayed in silence and only stared at me eagerly as if he was reading me. Graces, did he had a clue on what I was planning to do?
I refrained myself from look at him.I felt like he would know my true intentions if I would look directky on his eyes.
Lein cleared his throat before talking. "Playing with those brats is not a good choice. Those sh*tty -I mean, disgusting creatures are not worth your f*ck- ack! " Brother Maxillary suddenly elbowed Brother Lein without looking at him.
I only smiled nervouly when Brother Lein crouched on his seat because of the pain.
How painful was that? I wonder.
"Why do not we play with you instead?" Brother Amo persuaded. I looked at them one-by-one and shook my head after examining them.
"But you are not compatible to be playmates." I said blatantly and they looked like they were pricked by something or something heavy from above fell on their heads after hearing what they said.
"You should know how the society works we live in, Maxine. If you start interacting with them, whether or not you like them, they will expect you to make a move to befriend them again or else they would spread sh*tty f*- ack!" the smiling face of Brother Amo turned like he was choke when Brother Millian, sitting beside him elbowed his gut.
The four of them were hissing with each other, and they almost claw each other's faces just because Brother Millian and Maxillary were preventing them from swearing.
I almost laugh but at the same time, face palmed because of them. They looked like playing little lions in my eyes despite Maxwell were just beside me looking at them.
I understand what they were pointing though even he did not said it, I was already aware of that already. I know how viscious and cruel the other nobles and aritocrats' children were.
I had known for a havery long time'.
The ambiance of this table had changed.
Just as I was watching them playing, I felt something pricked on my nape as if someone was watching me from behind. I unconsciously turned around to find the culprit but I only had a glance on someone leaving and I did not had the chance to know who was it.
"Our descision is final, you can not. Children of nobles and aristocrats are different." Amo finally said. I looked at each of them and pouted. I was about to counter-attack when...
"I approve." Millian suddenly butted in that made us threw our heads on his direction with a surprised expression. Why would his reaction suddenly changed?
I could see Amo's disagreeing face even he was smiling because he would not win against the eldest, for Millian was considered as the Head of us whenever father was not around.
"But-!" Maxwell was about to protest when Amo himself covered the younger's mouth. Maxwell stopped for a moment, bewildered but quickly realize the power Millian holds.
Brothe Amo removed his hand from Maxwell's mouth when he felt like Maxwell was not going to say anything anymore.
Maxwell sometimes was really slow to realize things.
"You can, if and only if you would bring one of us." he muttered conditionally. That makes sense. They could not just leave me alone, playing around without a guardian,
I am still a kid to look after afterall.
"Then, may I bring Maxlein?" I asked politely and pointed at Brother Lein who almost jumped from his seat because of glee. He sat properly when our brother's menacing eyes landed on him ang glared as if they wanted to burn him on the spot.
Might be because of his clumsy manners?
Or jealousy?
Of course, they would be jealous because I chose Lein without even thinking.
He raise his chin up like a proud kid and he looked smug. I even heard him 'Hmpf-ed' as an exclamation.
Our brothers were glaring intently at him but he paid no mind at all for he was too happy to be bothered.
"Why him?! Brother Millian, that is unfair! I am stonger than him!" I even heard Maxillary protested. Looks like he took it seriously not being chosen. I also felt sorry for them though.
I held Brother Lein's hand while walking and I almost heard the people we left on the table roared. Lein looked back at them and sticked his tongue out to annoy them more.
I giggled on their childishness that made them froze and looked at me with a glittering eyes.
Of course, I did not picked Lein just because but for a purpose. I could not say he was narrow-minded, that was a harsh word to term my brother. I say, he was just too open and his attention could be quickly changed from another. He was not that bright but could be wary sometimes.
We went outside because the children seems to moved outside while my brothers were eager to stop me from stepping outside the boundary they self-created.
This would be the first time I would the back garden because I did not had a chance to look for this in the past.
It was like a garden maze for me but not at all. Maybe I am just really small that was why, I could not see the other side of nthe not-so-tall wall that was made of plants.
