Chapter 38
Sadie
I never want to tell Georgia this. Reason 1: I won’t tell Georgia about my almost suicide because I know how she talks to me whenever I--accidentally--brought it up; 2: She would hate any of it. What surprises me is that Anya must have not told her either, which I am very thankful for. But why would she not tell?
“Georgia.” I started calmly. “The plan is only between me and Anya. It doesn’t matter if you know-”
“Why is it that you guys don’t wanna tell me? Do you not trust me? How is it so important that only you two need to know?”
“Georgia-”
“I am your friend, aren’t I, Sadie?”
Shit. Not the friend card. Why is it always the friend card?
“Sadie?” Georgia called to me, away from my thoughts and back at her. But I only look at her for a second. I put my hands behind me as I start to fidget--It would be embarrassing for them to see this, mostly Anya. Fuck! What should I say?
“Why do you want to know?” Anya blurted out. Why is she doing this?
“Because I said so?” Georgia replied snarkily.
“Didn’t you hear that it’s only between me and her-”
“I’m not talking to you, princess!”
“You don’t have the right to push Sadie to the edge though! If she wants to say it to you, she will!”
Georgia just looks at me, her eyebrows raised and her mouth slightly agape. I see her eyes glimmering with the hope that I would tell her. But I don’t know what to say. The hope turned to pain. Her mouth curves downwards and her eyebrows drop. Shit! I know what this means.
I watch her slowly walk away, her gaze shifting away from me to the kitchen. I let out a long sigh. Not this again. “Georgia,” I start to jog towards Georgia and hold her wrist. “Wait, I’ll explain it to you.” She then turns around and crosses her arms on her chest. I exhale before. “Okay. So, I was running away from the dickheads who hurt you last year and-”
“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” Georgia reaches her hand on my cheeks and touches it gently, with worry written on her face.
“Yeah, I’m…Fine.” I grab her hand softly then slowly take it away from my face. “I just hid somewhere and I saw Anya minutes later and I helped her hide. The rest of the band helped after the concert and long story short: it was a long day and we both talked about our problems so we decided to run far from it for a while.” I reach for Georgia’s hand, rubbing her open palms with my thumb. “I’m sorry I can’t tell the rest. It’s very personal for Anya but that’s all that happened.” Well, kinda. I just don't fucking wanna deal with Georgia saying any Georgia things. I look up from her hand to meet her eye. “She’s not all behind this." --Well kinda. I mean she begged for me to do this, not like I don't want to. "Even I wanted to do this for so long! Now I found a reason. I promise I will update you anytime.”
“But why her?” Georgia shakes her hands from my grasp. “Like…Why go on a road trip with Anya? Out of the people you know?”
I take a deep breath. “I…” owe her one, first of all. I swear Georgia if only you know: she won't shut up about my attempt. I swear to all famous people have a savior complex?
“Take me, Sades.” Now it’s Georgia’s turn to hold my hands, both of hers grasp on it.
“What-”
“Take me, please! With you three, if you want to bring Anya.”
“Georgia-”
“But Anya doesn’t have to be there, you know? We can go on our dream adventure together Sadie! Just you and me! Anya Moore has many things in her life already! While us we-”
“Georgia stop,” I say calmly, so Anya won’t get to hear it. “Just..wait.” And she did. I take a deep breath. “Georgia. I…I’d love to take you. But you…You also have your life figured out too, didn’t you? What about your great mom who loves you? And you’re slowly achieving your dreams. You’re not asking for more-”
“There is one thing I ask for to make my life complete, Sadie.”
“What is it?”
I look up at Georgia, her eyes avoiding mine. “I…” She starts, but with no continuation.
“You?”
Georgia exhales from her mouth. “You…” She yelps out accidentally. She clears her throat and gulps before she tries again. “You’ve been…One of the greatest friends that I have in my life. Yes, I do have a lot of other friends a while back in Zamboanga but I never met someone like you. You’re so real. You’re not…Trying to fit in. You’re just yourself. And I really like…” She stops. Georgia turns her head to me, and at that moment, the eyes that met mine with worry soften, and the frown on her lips smiles sadly. I don’t understand why, but I did not ask. She continues what she’s saying. “I really like..for you to…Be happy. I watch the world slowly want to eat you up until no crumbs of you are left and I hate that you are treated that way only for being you. I hate that you have to run away for a while and I just have to watch you leave. I just wish there is anything I could do and I’m worried for your safety I just wanna be there-”
“Hey,” My hand slip from her hands and touch her cheeks. “I…Thank you. You’re always there for me despite our differences and I appreciate it. You don’t have to worry about me all the time. You being a great friend is enough for me.” I smile at her, to which Georgia starts smiling too with her cheeks questionably warming on my palm. I’m confused as to why but then I realize.
I took my hand off my friend’s face and look away. “Sorry, that’s…Unintentional.” I feel myself blushing from embarrassment.
“It’s…Fine.” Georgia’s voice weakens, her head to the side while her hand is holding her left bicep. When she looks at me, she smiles at me. “A hug could work?”
I nodded. We reach our arms out and pull ourselves in a hug, Georgia hugging me tighter than I do. “Don’t worry about me okay?” I said. “I will be fine.”
“Mhm.”
We pull out, and we are smiling again. No more weird and confusing Georgia.
“We good?”
“Yep!”
“You’re gonna tell us your ‘fashion’ plans?”
“Mhmm!” Georgia nods optimistically. I’m so glad this is over.
Anya
After Sadie took her friend away from this room, I went back to where I once sat. If I lean a bit far, I can see Sadie and Georgia talking, but I can only see Georgia’s back which covers Sadie’s face. I wanna know how it’s going. Did Georgia say something bad or are they doing okay? Was I right about Georgia not being a good friend for Sadie or do they actually get along? I just hope nothing bad is happening to Sadie, and our plan will continue.
I look around, catching almost every detail of the room just to take the worry off my mind. like how some mirrors have small stains, the carpet has crumbs on it, the combs on one rack have knots of hair, the other lost some teeth, and the floor is so shiny and smooth.
When I hear footsteps, I look up and I saw the two making their way toward me. I stand up, my eyebrows pulled up together. I hid my sweaty palms behind me. I can’t read their smiles. What did Georgia say to Sadie? Why are they smiling? Are they already…Dating? That thought made me feel sick to my stomach.
I avoid Georgia’s sour and unfriendly stare and dart my eyes at Sadie the same times she did. That soft smile makes me smile back. “So,” she started. I clasp my hands, feeling the wetness my body is generating. “The plan still lives on!”
My smile grows big. “That’s great!”
“Yeah! The greatest hairstylist is here to get us out of here in no time! But--” Shit. What does she mean by ‘but’? But I will have to go home?! But things won’t go in my favor and Georgia mess it all up? She turns to her friend and back to me. “I want you two to hug.”
“What?” Georgia and I replied at the same time with the same shock, hers just sounds a little more irritated.
“I don’t know what happened here while I was sleeping but I just notice the tension and things won’t work if things are still bad so…Hug!”
I almost jumped when I look at Georgia. If her eyes were a dagger, I’d be dead already. I would tell Sadie about it but every time Sadie looks at her, she softens her face, which I find disturbing. Geez…It’s like she’s an angel with Sadie--and the opposite is obvious. We’re standing still like untouched chess pieces. I’m thinking of making a move but my body is not letting me. What makes me hate this awkward feeling more is Sadie is there, watching us wait.
“Hey, come on.” Sadie breaks the silence. “It’s just a hug~”
Still, no signs of us moving.
“You know what?” Sadie takes Georgia’s wrist, then mine. She pulls us together til I feel Georgia’s body on me. Since Sadie have both of our arms resting on our shoulders, I just go straight for a hug. I feel Georgia's body hesitate a little, but with me being an inch or two taller than her, I hold her tight, and it feels so weird and awkward.
But this is for Sadie.
Seconds later, I feel Georgia’s arms wrapping around me, specifically my waist which caught me off guard. Out of all places?! What is she trying to do?! Never have I hated someone so much in the first three hours of meeting them.
Sadie joins in, her small hands wrapped around our backs. “This feels nice--you two getting along.”
As Sadie let go, so did we. Finally, she’s off of me. But after the hug, my eyes stay on Georgia as she does the same to me. Her chin is sharp but small, and her cheeks are chubby but not too much, though she’s very thin. Her skin is light brown, like her round eyes. She would be someone I would find incredibly attractive if her attitude towards me ain’t rotten.
But she looks away after a minute and claps her hands together. “So…” Georgia started. “Here’s my plan:” She crouches down at the table and grabs a sketch pad. Sadie and I sit down on the chair, with two meters of space between us. Georgia, on the other side of the table, flips the large sketchpad over and over then she reverses the pad for us to see the page where she stops.
This one paper has a line in between, written in pencil. One side has my name and the other has Sadie’s. The side of Sadie has colorful hair, while my side looks not like my usual style.
“I will explain to you guys why I pick these and whether you like it or not, this is what I’ll be doing. If you refuse, I will not do your makeovers.” Georgia then looks at me and Sadie with a smirk. So: I hope you guys are ready.” Download Novelah App
