Chapter 11 Life's Tragic Game
Author’s POV:
7:00 Am
Neo throws bag and immediately starts the car, speeding up recklessly as he try his best to hurry. He was sweating profusely and his eyes widens with worry. The News broadcast on the radio plays, “In today’s story, we bring you Crème Panama, a normal student who finally got to dance with his idol live in front of thousands of people. Although it was a great dream come true for kid, sadly a few moments after the competition, he was found dead while sitting on the park.”
Neo smashed the hospital door and shouts “Crème!” all over while looking for him. The people inside was scared of him but the guards and nurses only felt pity, a nurse told him which room Crème is and he started to run holding his bag.
The news continue to play in the TV of the hospital rooms. “Stabbed with an unidentifiable poison, the police believes that this was a hate crime borne through the jealousy of an obsessed fan. My fellow Arcanegrove citizens, this station strongly advises you to be careful and to stay safe.”
“Crème!” Neo shouts as he see Karan right next to Crème’s bed. Neo makes his way to Crème and as he sees his dead nephew he couldn’t help but cry. He drops the bad on the floor, even though he’s a genius he can’t save the dead. “It was my fault Uncle Neo.” Karan says still wearing his clothes from last night. His eyes are red from all the crying and he said “I let him go alone with Cassidy, I thought it was for the best. I never expected something so sickening like this would happen.
Neo holds Crème’s hands as the tears slowly fall down one by one. He stands up and kicks the computer multiple times, frustration, anger, grief and shock all mix together and can’t be handled by Neo. He bites his lips to control all the rage and he says “I’m going to kill him, whoever did this I’m going to make them experience hell.”
Karan was scared after hearing those words and seeing his uncle Neo filled with so much rage, but instead of crying again he says “Count me in.”
7:30 AM School Library
Valehollow called for an emergency meeting summoning all four of his librarians but only three of them we’re able to show up including Vince, Cassidy and Elise. Elise wonders where their bookworm is and why the atmosphere in the library was so suffocating even though they’re the only ones present there. “All of you are dismissed.” Valehollow says with a deep voice full of resentment while looking directly at Cassidy.
Elise was confused wondering what is happening, she looks at the two of her coworkers and she saw Vince being quiet while Cassidy slightly bow her head while looking at the floor. “Get the hell out of my sight and don’t ever show your faces here again.” As the two people left without saying a word, Elise goes to the Valehollow’s office trying to ask what’s going on, she sits in front of him and Valehollow rotated his screen to show her.
Elise eyes widen as she reads through the text, Valehollow lights up a cigar and says. “He was annoying but he’s the one who gave the books their heart and soul. It’s untimely but I want to you to join the School of the Mystics so wouldn’t suffer as Crème had.”
Before Elise could open her mouth, he said “I knew everything from the moment all of you applied to be librarians, I looked up all your history including your missing father so I could make sure that the candidates for the treasure trove were worthy. Although both Crème and You went to the treasure trove, without enough knowledge both of you would be as good as dead. You don’t trust the cops or the school but please just learn there so you don’t walk on eggshells.”
Elise walks away and tries to rewatch the news thinking that maybe it could be someone else or they made a mistake but no, Elise knees weaken and tremble so she sits on a school bench. She sees Cassidy wiping her tears before going inside the school building. “I just talked to him last two days ago and he’s an idiot who killed a monster so how?” her eyes slowly become watery even though she knew she always hated him for being too cheeky.
2 Months after Crème’s Death:
Elise Panama POV:
“Storm of lightning!” Misty wields her wand above as a huge storm cloud forms. I ran to her as lightning consecutively strikes me down from above, one flash from the cloud was all I needed to predict the thunder and immediately change direction. After getting close enough I said “Estella!” activating my armor and running to tackle her down to the ground. "Shield of the wind!" I was thrown off by the by her shield made of condensed air, but luckily since she summoned a shield that means she won't be able to use a mid-level spell like Storm of lightning.
I positioned myself and focused on the sword on my hand, I close my eyes and feel the winds around me as the bracelet resonates with my mind.
"As if I'm going to let you. Meteor Strike!" In an unexpected turn, she removes her shield to use another mid-level spell. The earth from the ground gather onto the air and condensed into a giant rock, it hurls into my direction as it burns with flames. Although it's coming for me, I didn't move an inch from where I'm standing. I opened my eyes and said, "Heaven's Cleaver!" I swung my sword from above and slash the meteor alongside with Misty, the force was so powerful that she flew off to the other side off the ring.
"The winner from the semi finals is Elise Willow!" The students watching began to cheer as they were taken aback by the amazing match. The tournament continues and I sit on the benches trying to rest for the semi-finals.
“How the hell can you even dodge lighting?” Misty bitterly grumbles about her defeat but I look at the next match and said “It’s just all about practice I guess.”
After Crème’s death, I joined the School of the Mystics. In here they teach young students how to survive, fight, and live in the mystic world. Since some monsters are transported here and not everyone knows how to properly live on earth or the mystic world, they decided that it would be best to educate children so they can adapt. Sometimes they teach magic and protocols on what to do in certain situations.
It wasn't much of a hassle to go here because in order to go to this school you just have to find the special doors embed with mana in the schools of Arcanegrove. It didn't affect much of my personal life either with Noelle since time flows differently inside this portal. Three days here is one day on earth so I had plenty of time to spend in school. Everybody here is either a monster specie, mage, half monster, or a normal human, the teachers assigned to us also possess the same peculiar and yet unique abilities.
Every day I come to this school and apply all what I learned to find my father. As much as I want to find him right away, Oso detects that my dad’s traces are in the portals with danger levels similar to the white wolf forest. Even if I can dip in and out of the portals thanks to the Blessing of the wind, I can't be sure I'll survived every time I go.
School of the Mystics doesn’t only teach us stuff about the mystic but it also gives us precious item rewards through competitions and just like right now, the item for today is Crescent Moon blades. It's shaped like a moon with a handle but the real reason why many of us fight over it is because it's a rare item that can double your strength when fighting under the moonlight.
As Misty and I watch the next match, we were shocked as Chester, the brute with Hercules like strength, faces a kid that’s twice less than his size. The kid wore a jacket and a mask that covers his whole face, “This ain’t no playground kid, so get out of here before you hurt yourself.” The nine foot giant says as he cracks his knuckles. The kid ignored his warnings and proceed to wear black gloves.
"All right, I warned you." As the match starts Chester runs to him releasing a barrage of earth shattering punches, the asphalt breaks each time he punched but he still couldn’t land a hit on the hooded opponent.
The kid taunts him by slapping his face and butt every time Chester gets close and misses a punch. Chester like an angry bull, he runs in for a tackle but the kid jumped, avoiding the tackle, and used the back of his head to jump again. Chester’s face planted onto the floor and as he gets up he says “Is running all you can do you coward.” The hoodie kid leans into the air, points his hand at Chester, and snaps his fingers as he whispered… ”Boom.”Download Novelah App
