Chapter Thirteen

Darcie wore a hood to avoid being seen by her anyone. It was drizzling as die walked in the streets asking different people where the fortune teller lived. She finally found his house after a long search. She knocked at the door. A small female child opened the door and started jumping happily when she saw Darcie. Darcie smiled at the child.
She then heard a voice inside saying;"Why did you open the door? I should be doing that instead." The person came out to see who was at the door. Darcie saw a young man come out and carried his daughter up. Darcie saw him to be a cheerful person.
"Your daughter's smile is very lovely. I think it's because she has a caring and jovial father", she said. The man smiled;"I can do anything possible for my daughter." Darcie chuckled at hearing this.
"What did you come for?", the man asked politely. "You must be the fortune teller, I want to see you", she replied. "See me?", he got surprised. "Come in then!", he gestured. Darcie went in and the man followed her behind. He closed the door.
Inside the house, the man's wife collected the young girl from him. They kissed each other. "Who do we have here?", she smiled at Darcie. "Wow! What a beautiful and happy family!", Darcie spoke to herself. "Well...I cane to know my fate in the next few days", she answered. "Have a comfortable stay here", the woman smiled at her and left with the child.
"You came to know your fate in the next few days. I don't see this quite often", he offered Darcie a seat and sat down also. "People don't come to you again?", she questioned. "They're afraid of hearing something that will put them in terror", he replied. "You're a brave girl, you want to be ready to face your problems", he added. Darcie nodded her head in support.
"How are you going to do it?", she asked. "Won't you let me serve you tea and some biscuits first?", the man chortled. "But sir...", she tried refusing but was interrupted by him. "No buts! I don't like when guests reject my snacks. It makes me feel useless", he said. "Ok! Fine! I'd love some tea and biscuits", Darcie smiled. The man brightened up;"Let me go get them." He got up and left. While gone, Darcie looked at the various pictures hung on the walls. She was admiring the cute family photos.
Darcie was having her refreshment as silence reigned for a while. The fortune teller was watching her as she ate the biscuits joyfully. He broke the silence;"I see you love the biscuits." She nodded and replied with her mouth filled;"You really bake nice biscuits from what I observe."
The man smiled. Darcie drank some of her tea. "The tea isn't an exception either", she commended. "Thank my wife for that", he replied. Silence reigned again for few seconds as Darcie finished up the tea and biscuits.
"Thanks for the hospitality", she appreciated. "My pleasure!", he smiled again. "Uhmm...you came from the city?", he asked. "Oh yeah! I came along with five of my friends", she answered.
He asked another;"What made you leave the city to a developing place like Zantis?" "My friends and I came to retrieve back our powers", she replied.
"I want to know my fate in the next few days in Zantis", she added. The fortune teller remembered immediately why she visited in the first place. "Oh! I forgot all about that", he apologized. He stood up to pick up the tray and the tea cup with a spoon.
The fortune teller sat in front of Darcie, on the floor. "Give me your right hand", he instructed. Darcie did as she was told. He used his thumb to rub round her palm, holding her hand. He then closed his eyes, still rubbing round her palm. He began seeing a vision.
In the vision, he saw himself running away in a dark environment from three ghosts who were running after him. He turned back to see them later but, they had gone missing. He stopped running and turned right. He saw his little daughter being roasted, tied to a stick.
"My little angel!!", he yelled and ran to save her. He fell on his way into what seemed an abyss. Surprisingly to him, he landed safely to the ground. Everywhere was still dark. Light then suddenly came before him, where he saw his wife tied to a pole, surrounded by four ghosts, each with a knife. They suddenly began stabbing her all over her body.
"No!!", he tried running towards them to stop them but was resisted from moving forward. The ghost of Mr Peter held his neck from behind. Mr Peter spun the fortune teller's head off his body and blood splashed all over the place. The head fell to the ground and it saw a writing on the wall;"If you tell her anything...this will happen to you and your family." The man came back to himself.
A force pushed him away slightly. He fell flat to the floor. Darcie got confused and asked;"What happened sir?" Terror was written all over his face and Darcie could see so. "Why are you panting and scared?", she asked another. The young man calmed down and asked her;"Where do you live currently?" "Well...my friends and I reside at the Peters mansion for now", she said.
"I would have put my family in danger by helping this young girl", he spoke to himself. "I don't really know what happened but...I couldn't read your future", he told her. "How possible is that?", she was upset. "It happens whenever it's been a while I read fortunes of people. Come back later like next week and I'll help you", he lied. "But I really...", Darcie tried to insist. "Try and understand! It's not my fault", he cut her in, in a calm voice. "There's some fishy going on here", Darcie thought. "Goodbye sir!", she stood up, bowed and left.
The fortune teller heaved a sigh of relief when she had gone. The wife who was watching, came inside the living room. "There's no time you weren't able to read fortunes. What really happened? Tell me!", she said. "She lives with five other friends at the Peters mansion", the man told his wife. She covered her mouth in shock. "Those friends are in danger. But, if we tell them anything, we die with them", she said sadly. "I wish I could help", said the young man. "I loved that girl at first sight. She doesn't deserve to die", the lady added. The man was walking to and fro thinking of what to do while his wife sat on a chair in deep thought.
