Chapter 34

Eros
"The day of your reckoning is near, Eros." Dad said as he sipped his coffee while sitting in front of the swivel chair of his office here inside the mansion.
I took a deep breath as I lean my back on the back rest of the sofa. I even crossed my legs while massaging the bridge of my nose.
"I know that thing. I'm not afraid of him, all I'm worried about is Francine. I don't want her to be in danger because of me. I promised to protect her."
"You've been protecting her all your life. It's not impossible that you can't protect her now," he said full of determination and confidence.
"I'm afraid for her safety. After all, it's all my fault. She wouldn't be in danger if it weren't for me." I reasoned out which made him put his cup of coffee down on the table and stared at me blankly.
"Stop blaming yourself, Eros. That thing doesn't help the situation right now. You must be thinking of a way how you can protect her," he said which made me shut.
He has a point though. Nothing will happen if I just think negative things. It is no joke that danger looms over us today.
"Are your angels ready for the war to come?" I asked as he nodded.
"But it looks like we're going to have a hard time because we don't know how many opponents there are. Only the Angels who are members of us can be counted," he said and lean back at the back rest of his swivel chair.
"We don't need too many Angels, Dad. A few are enough to protect Francine. It's just the two of us who have to count. I don't want anyone else to be in danger and get involved in this trouble between us."
He looked straight in my direction. Trying to read what's on my mind. But he failed so he just sighed and closed his eyes.
He is smart enough to know me and my actions so even if he doesn't read my mind, he could easily read my actions as well as my deep and dull eyes.
"Whatever you're thinking right now, I hope it would not be the cause of you being in danger," he said and I just smiled.
"I'm willing to do anything just for her safety, Dad. Even in exchange for that is my existence." I said full of determination.
"You don't mean that, Eros. Don't you ever dare to do such dangerous things that will-"
"I already think about it and it's consequences, Dad." I cut him off. "I know it's not that easy for me, and for her as well. But this is the only way for her to be at peace and free from the burden I caused to her life. If it is not because of me and my forbidden love, she will not be in danger. No sinful Angel wanted to kill her."
My decision is final. When Eron can't be brought to a good conversation. And when Francine gets involved in our mess, I'll do the last thing I know that me myself will going to ruin. But if that was the only way for me to keep my promise to protect her I would not hesitate to do it whole-hearted. Even in exchange for that is my loss of existence in this world.
"There is another way for you to fulfill your promise, Eros. But not in this way," he tried to convince me. "Don't even sacrifice yourself just because of that promise. Eros, you've kept your promise for her for a long time-"
"Dad, you know my promise doesn't end there." I said that made him stilled for a moment. "As long as I live as a rejected Angel, this mess will never end. And you know that you do too. That's why I came into your life because our sins are continuous and connected. And as punishment, there is danger that will come between us Angels and the person we love. And that's what happened to you, right? And it will happen to me too, if I won't sacrifice for the last time. Endless punishment is imposed on us in exchange for our disobedience and betrayal." I added which made him completely shut.
I knew he knew everything I said was right. As a rejected Angel, it is not only the cutting off of our wings and becoming a human being the punishment inflicted on us but the endless sorrow, disaster and trial. Every Angel who loves human beings is connected to one another. We will face different trials and challenges but it will be the same sin.
The length of time I have been here in the world of men and by observation is what I have learned. And my realization. No rejected Angel is cast here into the world of people who are having fun and living happily ever after with their beloved human being. All Angels who are rejected by heaven like me are given the punishment of grief, danger and other kinds of pain. And the more painful punishment is that one of you should be lose and gone forever.
"Whatever your decision will be, I will going support you," he finally said in defeat. "But remember, that if you need some help I'm just here. Don't hesitate on telling me, are we clear?" he added which made me smiled once again.
"Of course. Thank you." I said in contentment.
Aside from death, there are also most inevitable things that will happen in our life. That means they will happen anyway at some point, and we don't really feel like experiencing them. Just like what we are experiencing right now. What is happening right now.
Most people can't cope with these. They are too negative, they complain, feel bad, and even ruin their lives because of those. Or they'll just commit sin such as suicide of any kinds of things related to that.
But we, as a former angel who descended from heaven because of a sin that we commit. We aren't like them. They are humans. We are Angel s. And as an angel, aceptance of what can't be changed and knowing how to make the best of what you got is what you need to live. And facing such trials, grief or other kinds of pain is a part of our lives. Dear father didn't give us such challenges if we can't survive or cope up with it.
We just need to embrace it. And sacrifice something for the best.
