Chapter 35 The Election Day

GREAT, now I have to endure school on my own. I feel betrayed, knowing that Nathan and Scott maybe talk to each other to be absent today. I mean, it’s literally election day and they chose to be gone.
“Geez... I guess it’s just you and me again, my manual,” I whispered to myself.
I walked down the hallway, waiting for the lection day to starts. I get into my classroom and waited for my turn to come. I mean, the previous committee will got five people from each classrooms to vote every ten minutes. They said that it would help them became as organized as possible and also, it will avoid being biased to the candidates of the election.
As they called me out to vote in the chosen classroom where the election will be held, I felt anxious, knowing that people will saw me vote all of the members of my party list. But of course it was so expected of me to do that. I need to support my fellow members... Even though Scott and my bestfriend aren’t even here.
After writing our name, I dropped the card on the ballot box, where in all the decisions of the whole school is waiting to be find out. Students are staring at me, and it was a bit surprising seeing how they flashes their sweet smile towards mine as I walked out of the room. I guess our final speech during the last day of the campaign helped us a lot to win over the crowd... Though it’s not yet confirmed, but I hope our team can handle the results if ever.
“Natalia!” It was the freshman student that I’ve encountered two weeks ago.
She’s flashing a grin over my direction, and I couldn’t deny the fact that she did a great job pushing us to the limit. Because of her, our team had a huge advantage on this election.
“Hey!” I waved back.
“I’m pretty sure you will win! I voted you and your whole team...”
“Thank you so much... How are you doing today? I mean, is Freeda and her group bullying you or anyone in your year?”
She shook her head before smiling widely at me.
“Nope. Maybe they are afraid that we will speak up again if ever,” she confidently stated.
“That’s nice to hear. Well, I need to get going now. Again, thank you so much...”
“You’re always welcome!”
I walked away, thinking how lucky I am having an acquaintance just like her. I don’t even need Scott and Nathan today, for talking to that freshman student really made up everything. I sighed, before realizing that I haven’t got her name yet. Though it’s just fine for me. I mean, knowing a person by their attitude and personality is way better than knowing them just by their names.
The afternoon came. After lunch, people started to run over towards the front of our school billboard. I guess the results are already out, and it wasn’t so surprising at all for the previous members of the student council are all active and reliable.
I pretty much found out the result even before I arrived at the location of our school billboard. People bumping into me were starting to congratulate me, that’s why. Though I’m still nervous that maybe that wasn’t true for I haven’t confirmed it yet. And I also don’t want to be a part of student council if ever that Freeda won over Nathan. I mean, I surely couldn’t work comfortably around her if ever.
“Congratulations, Natalia!”
“Congrats!”
“You did it!”
I just smiled at them, before I made my way towards the front of the billboard. There, I saw my name printed right next on the position of secretary. I couldn’t believe it. I won. I just won over Elyzz.
And then that’s when I realized that Freeda, Lia, Elyzz, and Becca are now standing right next to me, looking at the billboard with a furious expression plastered upon their faces. Though Becca surely won, for she haven’t got any competitor for her chosen position.
“Like, it wasn’t worth it running for like, you know. This election. The results were like, duh... It’s very lame,” Elyzz stated.
“Becca surely is satisfied by the result,” Lia said to her cousin, raising one of her brows. “I guess you need to come back to your old squad then, cous.”
Becca just shut her mouth up, before Freeda walked towards me, her arms in front of her chest.
“Maybe you won this time, Natalia. But it wouldn’t happen again. So you better enjoy it while the eyes of the crowd are still into you... Because believe me, I’m gonna snatch that spotlight back next year,” she lengthy stated.

She then walked away, bumping my shoulder violently before her little squad followed her. I sighed, before looking up to the billboard. We won, just like that freshman student promised to me two weeks ago. Nathan did it, so as Scott... And me. We beat the bullies. Though Becca... I’m sure we will figure things out sooner or later. I mean, we got a lot of time to think things through. Summer is coming, before finally, we will become a junior students.
Out of excitement, I ran, badly wanted to head home to tell Nathan and Scott about the result of this election day. I’m pretty sure that they are over Nathan’s place, for those two often play video games by Nathan’s console and computer.
As I was running, I suddenly bumped into something... Or someone, I guess. When I looked up, I felt surprised, seeing Tyler for the first time since that day... The day that he wiped my tears away.
“H-hey...” I stuttered, wanting to thank him for that day and apologize at the same time for saying those hurtful words to him before. But no other words came out from my mouth after that.
“Are you alright?” he surprisingly asked, looking at me intently.
“Uhm... Y-yeah. I guess so.”
“Okay. I thought I’ve just hurt you again.”
After saying those words, he started to walk away, but I can’t help myself not to say another word. I mean, I don’t want to let go of this moment again, not having to thank him or even apologize for what I did.
“Tyler, wait!”
“Yeah?” He turned around, looking at me.
“I... Uhm... I just w-wanted to say thank you for that day... I mean...”
“You’re welcome, Ms. Carter.”
He was about to turn around when I say something again, making him stop for a moment.
“And also... I’m sorry... I’m sorry for telling you those words... I mean, about your family and stuffs... I really don’t mean to offend or hurt your feelings. I guess... I...” I trailed of.
“What?” he asked, walking back towards me.
“I hope you wouldn’t hold any grudges for me from now on.”
He surprisingly smiled, and only now that I realized how cute he is if only he wasn’t so serious all the time. My heart skipped a beat, as his fingers brushed on my cheeks by him trying to tuck the loose hair strands in front of my face behind my ear.
“That’s fine, really... I mean, I’ve done a lot of unforgivable things to you and to your friends before...”
I just smiled at him, for I don’t know how to respond at his latest statement.
“Do you want a ride home? It’s the least that I could do for you as a sign of peace offering... Please don’t refuse.”
I’m still having a hard time trusting him but I chose to accept his offer. Who knows? Maybe the next school year, Tyler and I wouldn’t be enemies just like before... We could be friends, I guess.
“S-sure.”
His smile widen, before walking towards the parking lot, motioning me to follow him. I did, and as he gets his motorcycle ready, I felt anxious, riding a bike just like this for a very first time.
“Climb up... And don’t forget to hold on tight.”
I did as he said, tightly holding on to his jacket for I’m afraid that I might fall if I didn’t. I was surprised when he held my hand, wrapping it around his waist.
“There you go. Now hold on tight... And don’t you ever let go.”
I nodded unconsciously, before he started reviving the engine of his motorcycle. We almost flew, I think. So I didn’t even open my eyes for I’m afraid of what may happen. I think this was the last ride of my life. Until after a few moments, I felt that we stopped. I heard Tyler chuckled, as I keep my eyes closed shut.
“Hey, you can look now. We are here.”
I opened my eyes as I quickly jumped down from his bike. I almost fall, for I still feel as dizzy as ever. Thankfully, Tyler was fully alert to notice and hold my hand to prevent me from collapsing.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asked, chuckling to himself.
“Uhm... Yeah, I guess so. I just... I feel tired and dizzy. Thanks for the ride,” I stated, trying to act fine as I let go of his hands.
“Sure. Anytime. And Natalia... Congratulations.” He smiled, before he drove his motorcycle away from me.
I just smiled, before walking towards Nathan’s house. Tyler wasn’t so bad after all. I mean, not all people who acted like a bad ass person is real... Sometimes, they could be good too.
As I continue walking towards Nathan’s garden, I instantly saw him and Scott playing a mini basketball. When they notice my presence, they smiled sheepishly from ear to ear, and I glared at them.
“You two should have went to school.”
“Sorry, Nat. Scott and I were too nervous,” Nathan explained.
“Even so! I mean... I have to endure Freeda’s awful stare all alone!” I complained.
“Sorry about that,” Scott stated. “Anyways, what happened to the election? Did we lose?” he added.
I nodded, wanting to prank them in revenge.
“I told you.” Nathan looked at me.
“Well, that was a great fight. Now we could finally enjoy summer after another week of being a sophomore students...” It was Scott, trying to act cool though he’s looking sad and disappointed.
“Kidding. We won,” I casually stated.
They looked at each other, before blinking several times trying to process what I’d just said.
“What?! What do you mean? We won? Like, we are going to be the officers for next year’s student council?” Nathan asked in amusement.
I smiled, before slowly nodding.
“Pretty much... Yes.”
“Whoah!”
Scott laughed like a lunatic after exclaiming those words, before Nathan suddenly lift me up before spinning me around in circles. I laughed, and we continued to rejoice like a three idiots jumping up and down in their garden.
“Hey, what’s going on?” It was Aunt Jessica who just came into the view, checking up on what is happening to us.
“Nothing, Mom. We are just happy.”
“Oh. That was nice. Come on then, Scott and Natalia. Have some pastries inside,” she offered, before coming inside of their house again.
As soon as she vanished from our sight, we continued celebrating, forming a little group hug as we realized how lucky we are. We did it. And we are finally ready to face another school year and life challenges.
