Chapter 42

Eleanor's POV...
"Thanks for the ride, Mom," I say to my mom as I unbuckle my seatbelts.
"No problem. Have fun, Honey," my mom says.
"I will," I say as I exit her car and head over to the small yet fancy looking cafe in front of me. It's been a while since I hang out with the girls, so it's good that Lillian actually planned this all-girls meeting. And I almost thought she would be too busy with Oliver. Well, too bad Taylor couldn't join though. She said she was going to the library today.
2 PM...
At Cali's Coffee....
I walk inside the coffee shop and see that Lillian is already waiting for me, along with Paige and Samantha. Lillian smiles at me as quickly raises her hand in the most obvious manner, making Samantha giggle and Paige rolling her eyes.
"Eleanor! You made it," she says as I walk up to the cheerful looking girl. Well, she surely looked happy today. I bet she must have some good news to share with us.
"Yeah. I wasn't gonna miss it," I say in a sassy tone as I pull out a chair to sit next to her.
"Awesome. But by the way, where's Taylor?" Lillian asks in a wondering manner.
"She went to the library earlier," I say in a casual tone.
"Ah I see. Too bad, she's missing out on the great coffee here," Samantha says, making Lillian burst out a laughter, while Paige just continues to roll her eyes. Well, that's kind of weird since it's rare for me to see Paige rolling her eyes.
Minutes passed by we decided to order some snacks along with our coffees. Well, expect me who decided to go with chocolate milkshake.
"By the way, so how are things with you and Fred?" Lillian asks me all of a sudden.
"Well, we're good," I say, though the thought from last night still made me feel awkward as it flashes back in my head.
"Did he finally pop the question?" Samantha asks in a rather playful manner as she cuts her croissant.
"Haha, funny joke, Sam," I say in a chill tone. Samantha can really have too much jokes in her head.
"We're just friends," I add, not wanting anyone to think further about my suppose-to-be chill friendship with him.
"Man, but the way he looked at you at the party was something else," Samantha states.
"Damn girl, and you actually noticed that?" Paige suddenly asks. I bet she's probably surprised that Samantha knows almost everything.
"It was quite obvious," Samantha says.
"Geez, guys! We're just friends and I don't see him that way," I say. "Let's just forget about him for today."
"Ok," Lillian says. "So who do you actually like?"
Hearing that, my lips became silent as Lillian's question tinkles through my ears. Suddenly the thought of a person who I've been trying to forget for a while starts surfacing back, slowly awakening the butterflies that had been sleeping for some times, now dancing again wildly inside. A person who I tried to confess my feelings, but turned out he thought it was better for both me and my sister to just remain friends with him. That guy, is none other than Joey Carlson.
4 PM...
At the arcade...
"Haha, that was awesome," Taylor says as she walks with a big white teddy bear that both she and Joey just exchanged with their tickets.
"Haha, yeah," Joey says as he forms a big smile while walking next to Taylor.
"Man, I forgot the last time I had this much fun," Joey adds.
Hearing this, Taylor turns her head to see Joey looking so happy with a big smile on his face. She could say she's feeling the same way like him about today. After a while of roller-coasters, she's happy to say that today, she's beyond happy to finally be together with Joey and have some quality time.
"I never want to forget this day, Joe," Taylor says, a tone of seriousness in her voice speaks from her heart.
"Same," Joey says.
"By the way, so how are things between you and your dad lately? Did any of you two thought about making up?" Taylor suddenly asks. She remembered Joey had told her last night about his dad and him not talking lately. She wondered if they would eventually come to a sense to make up with one another.
"So far, no. Right now, I just hope I can get a part-time job soon. I want to save up some money for college, and maybe I wouldn't have to think too much about him," Joey says.
"I see," Taylor says. "Have you thought about which college you would like to attend?"
"Not yet, but I remember my mom told me that she wanted me to study engineering," Joey says. "But well, my dream was still to become a movie director."
"I see. So what are you gonna about that?" Taylor asks.
"I honestly don't know. It's hard to choose between promise and passion," Joey says. "Though I never promise my mom that I'll study engineering, now that she's gone, I think that's the only way I could make her feel proud of me."
Hearing this, Joey's heart-moving story made Taylor felt touched. She feels sad for him that he had to choose between making his late mother happy, and pursuing his childhood passion. At this state, all Taylor want is to just accompany him through every stages in his life.
"Joey, your mom would be proud of you no matter what you choose," Taylor says. "I believe she's already happy to see you from above, knowing that she had raised such a wonderful gentleman."
Hearing this, Joey forms a small smile on his lips. Deep down he wouldn't deny that Taylor's supportive words succeded in making him feel better after the blue. He's glad to have her by his side, even when he's feeling helpless and sad.
"I'm just a casual guy trying to survive life," Joey says.
"You are wonderful to me, Joe," Taylor says as she forms a small smile on her lips, making Joey turns his head to see her smiling.
Joey chuckles. "Only wonderful for you, Taylor Steward."
With that final word, Joey plants a small kiss on Taylor's cheek, making her cheeks blush a bright shade of pink as her heart feels overjoy with the butterflies dancing inside of her.
