Chapter 45

A few hours later...
7 PM...
At Taylor and Eleanor's house...
Taylor is having a quiet dinner with her parents. Despite having her favorite chicken and tomato soup for dinner, Taylor's heart kept feeling anxious at the thought of Eleanor who is still not home at this hour. She had tried to call and text her a few times, yet the only thing she received from her twin sister is declined calls and ignored messages. Taylor is worried about her sister and just wants to make sure that she's ok. At this point, she knew it was hard to believe Eleanor could forgive after what happened, yet she only wish they could at least still act like two normal people.
"Where is your sister?" her mom asks in a wondering tone, which got Taylor a bit nervous. She didn't want her mom to think that her sister decided to stay out so late because of her.
"Probably still doing her homework at Fred's place," Taylor says, though she honestly had no idea where could Eleanor be right now.
"It's dinner time and she's missing out," her dad says. "That's an odd thing."
Just then, the door bell suddenly rings, in which Taylor quickly got up from her chair to answer it. She's hoping that it would be Eleanor at the door. Upon opening the door, she sees her twin sister standing with an upset face, making Taylor feel guilty. Without a word, Eleanor walks pass Taylor and enters the house, where she sees their parents are having dinner, and that Taylor hasn't even finish with her own soup.
"Honey, you're back. Where have you been that you almost missed dinner?" their mom asks.
"Just homework related stuff," Eleanor says before she walks upstairs. She suddently lost her appetite knowing that she'll be seeing Taylor while having a peaceful dinner. She would rather be hungry tonight, than having to see her face. In an emotional manner, she slams the door shut, almost making her mom drop her spoon.
Taylor's POV...
"Gosh, what is up with that kid?" my dad asks as he heard Eleanor slammed the door.
"Maybe she's just tired with school matters," I say as I attempt to sound calm with the situation, though deep inside my heart is feeling more uncomfortable when I saw that Eleanor looked more crushed than earlier at school. The guilt had filled my heart to the fullest knowing that I am responsible for her feeling betrayed. She probably won't come out for dinner before I leave the table. By that, I decided that this needs to end soon, and that I should make things right with her tonight. Besides, I don't want Mom and Dad to find out about this, which could worried them knowing that their daughters are having a cold relationship with one another.
2 hours later...
9 PM...
Eleanor walked downstairs in her baby pink pajamas as she heads to the dining room. She told her mom before that she still had some homework to do so she couldn't join them for dinner, when in reality, she was only avoiding Taylor the whole time. She told her mom to save her a bowl of soup for her to eat later, in which her mom did.
Looking at the bowl of chicken and tomato soup on the dining table, Eleanor pulled out the dining chair and sits as she starts to consume the soup. Her mom had been caring enough to heat up the soup a few minutes before, hence making it still warm and of course delicious. While eating alone in the dining room, Eleanor felt in peace as she continues to consume the soup, which is her late dinner.
"How's the soup?"
Eleanor turns her head with a surprised feeling upon hearing the familiar voice. She didn't want to hear that voice right now. In fact, she felt like she didn't want to hear that voice anytime sooner. Standing not far from the dining room, Taylor could only stare with guilt in her eyes as she sees Eleanor still looking all disappointed.
"What do you want?" Eleanor asks in a stern tone as she turns her vision away from Taylor and continue to focus on her soup.
Taylor became silent for a while. Though the guilt is already pouring out in her heart, she finds it hard to put together all that guilt into an apology in which she hope Eleanor could understand. She didn't expect it to be so hard just to say a proper apology. Yet, her mind kept repeating to herself that she needed to do it. Whether it's gonna come out good or bad, or whether her sister is gonna forgive her or not, she has to do what is needed to do.
"I want to say sorry about what happened back then," Taylor says. "I was selfish."
"So? You knew it and did it anyway. How do you expect me to react now?" Eleanor asks in a cold tone, almost making her seem harsh.
Hearing this, Taylor feels more guilty about herself. After her own selfish doings behind her sister's back, all she could give her is a pathetic apology which felt worthless. She feels more ashame of herself, now realizing that she had messed up more than what she thought.
"I don't understand why did the two of you had to hide everything from me," Eleanor says. "Did you really thought I was gonna steal him away from you if I knew?"
"Eleanor, I.."
"As much as I like him, I am not gonna fight with my sister over a guy," Eleanor states. This time, the tone of her voice sounded louder, sealing Taylor's lip shut. This is the first time she is witnessing her sister behaving so agressive towards her.
"Especially when he made his choice," Eleanor adds. Suddenly, tears starts to fill her eyes as her emotions starts to get more chaotic.
"Eleanor, I'm sorry. Joey and I never meant to hide things from you," Taylor says in a guilty tone.
"Then why did you guys agreed to hide it from me?" Eleanor asks in a agressive tone.
To be continue...
