Chapter 17

Hannah left the house and met back with Eva at the main building where they first saw Mr. Klein again.
"Hey" Hannah said gaining Eva's attention as she wiped the sweat out of her forehead.
"Hi! How's being a runner treating you?" Eva asked as she bandaged someone's hand.
"It's alright I guess?" Hannah fiddled with her fingers.
"You in the with the runners? That's amazing! Which group are you in young lady?" The man who Eva had bandaged asked, making Eva look towards Hannah as well.
"It's the fifth group" She proudly said however the man's reaction wasn't so good towards her words.
"The fifth?! Well, I'm going to leave now" he abruptly said and left before throwing a nasty glare at Hannah.
"Whoa, what was that about?" Eva was surprised to see such a sweet man become so hateful in a matter of seconds.
"Don't know, but the fifth group does have a bad reputation I suppose" Hannah shrugged
"Huh, how interesting" Eva voice out as she put the equipments away.

Mr. Klein and Eva were seated in the cafeteria, waiting for Hannah and Judas to arrive.
"So, I believe we hadn't had the chance to talk much ever since we met" Mr. Klein smiled, trying yo make conversation.
"You're right, if you don't mind me asking, how did you meet Hannah? As much as I want to say you guys are father and daughter, it's quite obvious to see the differences between you two" Eva blurted out.
"I'm afraid I don't remember the exact moment we met, it's been so long since then" Mr. Klien continued,
"She lives in the same apartment as us and I often see her walk by, you know working as a security guard and all"
"I always gave my greetings to all the residents who passed through including that little bug." He chuckled
"One day, i greeted her and she looked at me as if she saw a ghost and ran into the apartment. I, who was shocked thought that they may be trying to break in"
"I chased her all the way back to her apartment and knocked on the door, demanding for her to come out and she had the courage to say no from behind the door"
Eva laughed hearing that Hannah was such a brave soul to be able to go against her security guard.
"I wasn't sure how to deal with the situation so I head back to the office and check to see if she was staying in the apartments and I was glad to see that she was because at the time I really didn't want to have to practice my rights on a teenager"
"A few days later, my post was switched and I met Hannah once again however she approached me first and apologized for running away so abruptly. She said she wasn't sure how to reply to me and I just stood there looking at her mouth agape"
"Just then my little girl Judy came over and the two started becoming close friends. Ever since then Hannah just became a part of my family, it would be sad if she were to leave" Mr. Klein finished, happy to be able to talk about the past.
"How about you?" Mr. Klein asked.
"Oh, there's nothing much to say. We are just your average family. My father is the only person i remember and i have never seen my mother before. I also have no siblings sadly" Eva sighed
"Oh" Was all that Mr. Klein managed to muster up.
"I know it's pretty bad i guess" Mr. Klein sat there unsure of what to say and thought of something
"Hello, everyone how are you two doing?" Judas came into their view, the heavy air surrounding Eva and Mr. Klein disappeared.
They sat down and talked to each other none wondering about where Hannah was at the moment.

"So you have to make sure your legs are a little far apart so then you'll get a much better stance" Hannah did as he said and moved her legs apart a little.
"Now sing to it" the man said.
Hannah stopped shocked. He wants her to sing to a piece of wood she's about to chop off?
Hannah thought the man was going crazy. It went on for awhile and she had to play along with him a nd sing the lines until Jonah came and smacked the guy in the head.
"I told you to stop messing around with people for goodness sake!" Jonah exclaimed.
"But it's funny!" The man said as he ran off
The interaction between the two made Hannah confused.
"I'm sorry about him. He likes pulling pranks on everyone" Jonah sighs.
"Its alright, although i was about to make a run for it if i had to sing any longer" Hannah groaned.
"Here let me teach you"
Hannah did the same stance as she did before and followed Jonah's instructions. The axe was a little heavy to hold but she managed to keep it steady to a certain level.
In one swing she brought the axe down and did not manage to pierce the wood. In her second attempt, there was a crack after she swung again.
Hannah kept on swinging and swinging until her arms were sore. The reason she began doing this is because she wanted some materials that she could use and she could also train her muscles at the same time.
"Just a few more and I will be all set" Hannah huffed to herself.
Hannah started making things that she deems was useful to her.
The first thing she made was a larger table. Despite already having one provided to her, she knew it was way too small for her to be using it on a daily basis.
"This is much harder than I thought it would be" Hannah spent a few hours trying to perfect her table.
"Oh well look at you turning into a little tinkerer" Judas joked, looking at her craftmanship.
"Woah did you make this thing?" He asked as he gently knocked on the sturdy table she had just finished making.
Hannah hummed in reply and began cleaning up the area around her. Judas offered to help her which she gladly took.
Once done, the two brought the table back into the house. Jonah and Christine were curious about the table they were bringing in.
"I sure hope you didn't steal that from one of the other groups of runners" Jonah said nervously as he fiddled with his fingers.
He was reminded of a time when a new runner was fed up with being casted as an outsider group and snuck into one of the other runners base one night.
It went quite horribly. Caleb decided that he was not fit to be a runner nor was he fit to be part of the community and sent him out from the safe zone and to never return back.
"Not really, Hannah over here made it all by herself" Judas proudly said as he messed her hair.
They were all surprised when they heard Judas. Jonah was just happy that it wasn't stolen whatsoever.
"It's nice to see someone trying something new" Jonah smiled.
"Everyone's so caught up in other people's work that we barely have time for ourselves" he continued, looking up towards the other groups homes.
After talking for a while more, they went their separate ways and Hannah was enjoying herself with a new table.
She began drafting out a few other things she would like to build. They vary from complicated builds to the most simplest ones.
Hannah wrote it all down in the book she had before and left it on the table as she left and head towards the cafeteria after not eating for quite a long time
