"He’s dying," Callisto said for the thousandth time and I felt like blowing his brains out.
"I heard, the fact that I did not answer is because I waited for you TO LEAVE" I spoke bluntly and tidied up my posture as I felt my bones crack. It was uncomfortable to work there, especially when an idiot made a point of HINDERING.
"What will you do? I already gave you what you asked for and yet "he wouldn’t shut up and I knew I was desperate, but that didn’t make me care.
"Shut the fuck up" I mumbled sliding one hand through my hair "you fucked up when you decided things without talking to the saint or the duchess and now you want to rush me? Do you know how much I had to TRY for Asra to let me TOUCH the saint? His luck is that that brilliant thing that should be obedient to my father, is interesting and apparently wants to save his son."
"What?" he seemed astonished.
"Ah... I don’t want to explain" grumbled "so go away, you being here only delays the treatment of the child and I’m tired of his presence. She makes me nauseous."
The king writhed, not out of pride, but out of a mixture of curiosity and certainty that - he could not go against the only being who was able to care for the child.
I sighed.
'How much work you gave me... Quinn'
I snapped my tongue in the roof of my mouth and when Calisto finally left my fucking room, I closed my eyes that burned after 3 days without sleep.
"Your luck is that I’m not human" I grumbled to the wall and didn’t need magic, divination or anything else to know that she listened to me, or rather. Him.
"You knew from the beginning, didn’t you?" the lower, but still delicate voice asked me and I smiled, smiled as I turned towards her.
"It’s rude of you to come back and not even come to give me a hug, I should let that child die only in a tantrum," I said crossing my arms over my chest and Quinn’s smile was bigger than mine.
"You would never do that, Samael, after all... you love Loren as much as I do" my sister’s eyes shone as she approached, her arms open "come here, you can hold me, I swear I’m real."
I sighed.
I hated to admit it, hated to miss that wretch, hated to care and hated the fact that my eyes were burning for more than one reason.
"How?" I asked as she sank her face into her neck, even if her body was different, that her soul was now marked with black energy and infernal traits... it was still Quinn, still had the same smell, the same feeling.
"How did I get back?"
"No, how you make cookies. It’s obvious that’s how you got back, you..."
She laughed and slid her hand over my head.
"Okay... sorry, stupid question, right?"
"Glad you know" I grumbled and she let out a snide laugh "now answer me."
Quinn wavered and looked around as if asking permission.
"Asmodeus" growled and Quinn laughed softly.
"Our prince is very mysterious," he said as he stroked my hair.
I sighed and walked away from my sister who was now a brother.
"What did he do? Is he holding you back somehow?"
Quinn denied it with his head.
"Asmodeus is helping me, actually."
I raised one of my eyebrows.
Asmodeus, helping? Since when was this even possible?
"Don’t look at me like that" Quinn laughed as he walked away "he’s a narcissistic asshole, but he also likes something and wants to get back to it."
"I suppose that means 'stay out of it and pretend I’ve never been here," I said sliding my hand through my hair and Quinn nodded.
"And also..." he looked at the test tubes "please... save my son."
I popped my tongue in the roof of my mouth.
"Like I’m not gonna do that before you ask."
He laughed a little.
"I know... that’s why I asked you to protect Loren."
"You’re a horrible mother."
"Theoretically... now I’m a father."
"Great" mocked "now he has two horrible parents."
The blond tried to contain the laughter, but it was obvious that he agreed.
"Don’t talk like that, he’s really doing his best" tried to say, but even he knew that the best of Callisto was MILES away from being enough.
"The best of him is making that kid a total fuck-up," I muttered as I leaned against the bench and Quinn nodded.
"But he’s all Loren has."
"Now he has you," I fought back.
"Not yet at all..."
"You think I didn’t see you with him at the dance?"
He laughed.
"Is there something you haven’t seen?"
"Of course, I didn’t see what Azrael was doing that night. He disappeared after entering with a strange child. I thought that loser would never take a date to the dance, not then..."
Quinn raised an eyebrow.
"Did Azrael have a date?"
I settled.
"How?"
I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don’t know, but they looked like a couple," I sighed "see he got over it."
Quinn snitched.
"Overcome? One does not overcome a love like that of Azrael and his star..." he faced the floor as if looking for something there "maybe... he fell in love again?"
"Or..." smiles "he might be using her."
"That sounds too cruel for Azrael."
"Oh, dear..., haven’t you noticed what happened to you? Pain changes people, Quinn. You’ve changed."
The body of the blonde became stiff.
"I wouldn’t use anyone like that..."
"No? Wouldn’t you use anyone to save your son? Or your worthless husband?"
"Calisto is not useless, he is a fool at many times and certainly needs help to understand his own feelings. He became a mess when I left him alone and when they took away everything he loved, but... Calisto is still the same one I fell in love with."
"That doesn’t answer my question. Would you use someone if it saved Calisto and Loren? If it gave you your... happy ending?
Quinn’s mouth opened and his eyes, which remained as blue as they had been in his days in the heavens, shone with the power that ran through his body."
"Yes." Smile. I was always right after all.
