Chapter Ten

David was in the living room with his parents. They were watching the TV, a romantic movie precisely. The movie had just ended and Mum began behaving emotional.
"Awnnn...this movie made me cry", she said, using g her hand to wipe off the invisible tears. She then remembered to say something. "Uhmmm...Honey! Where are we going on Valentine's day?", she asked.
Dad covered his face in disappointment. "Why did she remember this year?", he murmured to himself.
Mum heard the murmur. "What did you say?", she asked.
"Nothing dear...nothing important", Dad replied. Mum didn't want to argue , she laid on the sofa to have a rest.
Dad then said;"I want us to have a dinner at Pyramid Hotel." Mum sat up immediately in excitement and surprise. "Are you serious Honey?", she asked.
David never uttered a word, reading a novel as though his life depended on it. His Mum tried to make him talk by asking him a question.
"Hey Son! What outfit would be perfect for this occasion...you know, this generation got a lot of new stuffs or ideas pertaining to Valentine dates."
David chuckled at the question. He shrugged his shoulders, showing he had no idea of what to say.
"Come on Dave...your generation brought up new ideas on how Valentine's dates should be. Don't you know any of them?", asked his Mum eagerly.
As David was about to say something, Dad cut him in. "We're adults, the way we see a Valentine's date it's okay, as long as it makes us happy. No need to involve David into this", he said to his wife.
David gested a thumbs up to his Dad, who didn't see it though, not even Mum. He resumed his novel he was reading.
"Okay then...we'll celebrate Valentine's day the way that makes us happy", said Mum in an apologetic manner to Dad.

The next day! It was in the afternoon and school session had been dismissed. Some students that weren't going to be picked up by their parents left the school in groups, in cliques. They were heading home, either by trekking the entire distance to their homes or using the public transport vehicles at a point.
David wasn't picked up that day, he joined his friends as they walked up the road. The girls were together ahead of the boys. Both however, were having playful conversations on how they'd celebrate Valentine's Day.
"My boyfriend's going to take me out on a date at the Monte Suites tomorrow", a girl told her friends in a cheerful approach.
"Awnnn!", her friends chorused in excitement for her.
"I haven't been to Marina Resort since I was 8 so...I told my boyfriend to take me there", said another. Everyone reacted in disappointment but tried to hide it. The girl noticed it because of the sudden silence.
"Come on girls! What's wrong with the place? Heard the place is always lively on every 14th February", she said.
Stella laughed;"There are way better places to go to than the Marina Resort. But anyways...once you're with your soulmate, anywhere can be fun." The other girls made the girl feel relaxed, as she was already feeling she made a wrong decision choosing Marina Resort as a place for her Valentine's date after listening to Stella's words.
"Bro! What are your plans for your first ever Valentine's date?", a friend asked David, placing his hands on David's shoulders.
David heaved a big sigh and replied;"We're going to have a date at Food Court's restaurant, Stella's favorite place."
His friends hailed him. "Latest boyfriend in town", teased one.
"I'll be going for a pool party at Treasure Island Hotel", one said.
"Uuhhh! Same here! I'll be going there with a girl...not a girlfriend though", replied another.
"Cool!", remarked the first, "I'll be going there with a girlfriend however", he continued.
His boys laughed at him till he became confused and told them to stop. "Why are you mates laughing at me?", he asked, worried.
"This is your fifth girlfriend in a year dude", replied David, playfully acting up a stern look as he awaited his response.
"Ohh!", he laughed, "That's why you guys were laughing", he said. "But let me be honest...this current one got me in my feelings. I really do have a soft spot for her", he said in a calmer voice.
Everyone's reaction clearly indicated to him they didn't believe a single word he said. "I'm serious this time guys. Remember the past ones? I'd always been letting you guys know I never planned to be in a relationship with them for long, but now, this one really got me in my feelings guys", he said.
"Wow! Emmanuel in love!", one of them teased him, pushing him away slightly. The rest laughed.
"I'll prove y'all wrong. Bet me!", he insisted.
They got to the end of the road, bursting out to a very busy road. They met the girls who were patiently waiting for them.
They greeted each other, shaking hands and some hugging each other. The ones that had to cross over the road to the other side did so together. Some took their taxis without having to cross over. David was in this group, also was Stella. The rest whose houses were probably close by kept on trekking.
