Chapter Fourteen

David was having a conversation with his friends, three boys, Stella and one other girl. "What killed that JSS1 superintendent?", David questioned, in confusion and shock.
"The only thing the school declared was him being murdered last night. We didn't see his corpse...no one knows he died", answered Stella.
"His death's really shocking. He went on a field trip yesterday with the JSS1 students and from sources I've got...he came back safely from the journey", one boy added.
"Yeah! I heard so too. His death all of a sudden shocked me to my bones", said the second boy.
A girl who was overhearing the conversation joined them. "I know exactly what killed Mr James", she said.
Everybody reacted with surprise. "What really killed him?", questioned the second girl.
"Yeah...tell us! We'll like to know. Was he ill?", asked David.
The girl shook her head in response to David's question. "He was never ill. He was killed by that monster last night", she replied.
In disbelief, Stella asked;"That monster didn't wreck havoc in Calabar City yesterday. You're sure of what you're saying?"
The girl heaved a sigh;"That monster didn't just attack Mr James last night..."
"Oh! It was even last night...not during daytime", said the third boy.
"That monster also tried attacking a JSS1 girl he was with, her Mum and the three security men", the girl disclosed.
"Don't say something you're not sure of. You're talking as though you saw it happened", replied David immediately with disbelief.
"Mr James was with my younger sister last night while they waited for Mum to pick her up. My mum and younger sister told me they saw that monster. It even ran after them, even the security men saw it but possibly, the school doesn't want to frighten us with such news. The school management pleaded with us not to tell anyone but they only shared the news amongst the staff", replied the girl in a slightly high tone. Two teachers passed by the class and everyone involved in the conversation kept silent as they watched them pass.
"The monster hides from everyone and then, all of a sudden reappears and attacks anyone it gets its hands on", Stella concluded.
"The whole Calabar right now is in a state of terror. Hundreds of people have been killed in the past seven days according to the news", replied the third boy. Angela's sister nodded her head in agreement.
"This second Ratboy may destroy it...he looks stronger than the first", said the first girl as she cleared her throat.
"But how's he going to know when and where that monster will raid the city again?", the first boy questioned. He gested his hands towards Angela's sister. "If what she's saying is the truth...", he mocked jokingly.
Angela's sister folded her hands and gazed at him sternly. "Like seriously?", she interrupted sharply.
He didn't give her a reply but continued speaking. "...Ratboy wasn't aware of the attack before time and one of our teachers life has been taken away."
David, who was paying attentively to everything being said began to reason to himself alone. "This is the problem right now...how will I know whenever Death wants to attack this City and the place where?", he asked himself. While everyone else was still saying one thing or the other related to Mr James's Death, Death and Ratboy, David made a decision to go over to Mr Robinson's home after school's session.

"The school's been concealing from all the students what killed Mr James but the JSS1 student that also experienced it told her older sister who's my classmate. She was the one who disclosed the entire secret to me and a few others. We really need to solve such issue before is too late", David concluded the story to Mr Robinson. They were both in his lab.
Mr Robinson heaved a heavy sigh, not knowing how to start talking. He was quiet for a while and David was so eager to hear a reply.
"There's a small device I could invent. While they're Klups, a special small team...which I was part of before I was appointed to create a superhero, once traveled to space and we got their blood samples to study them", Mr Robinson finally spoke out.
"You were once in a team that study Klups?", questioned David.
"They're a team that research on the weirdest creatures in the Universe."
He continued;"Those Klups can talk but can't when they're Deaths. They are very very harmless when Klups but one of the most dangerous things ever to exist when Deaths."
"With the blood sample still with me, I can invent a device capable of detecting when and where he reappears. It's gonna take me two days to invent it", he told David.
David, amazed by what he just said, asked him a question. "How does it work?"
"Whenever a Death wants to attack, its blood normally gets warm...about 45°C."
"How were you guys able to study the blood of a Death without it killing you? And also...from what you once told me, this Death in Calabar is the first Death on Earth", he asked Mr Robinson, wondering himself.
"Fine! I'm going to tell you the truth because you're now a member of SHC. Just promise me you won't tell anyone." David crossed his heart, indicating his promise not to spill the beans.
"Remember when I told you Klups can lure people into picking them up?", asked Mr Robinson.
     David nodded his head;"Yes Sir!"
"It was able to lure a member of ours then into picking it up while in the lab of the SHC building. Immediately we began seeing the mutation, we locked him up to a table top. It was a very large and stainless steel table so he couldn't make it fall no matter how much he was trying to escape."
"When we saw he'd completely transformed, we researched on him. We found out the blood was exactly the same components as Klups's but Death's own was slightly warmer. We thought at first Death's blood was naturally meant to be warm."
"How did you guys find out the exact reason for its blood being warm?", asked David.
"Well...to be honest, if I decide to tell you, we could be here for an extra five hours...that's because you'd surely want me to break it down for you to understand", replied Mr Robinson.
David heaved a sigh and got up from his seat. "I'm damn hungry Sir. I need to go home and have launch", he said.
"Okay then...I'm going to invent the device. Expect it from me after two days", Mr Robinson replied.
"Have a nice day Sir!", David walked out of the lab.
"Have a nice day too", he responded.
