Chapter Sixteen

David got home that day very moody. He turned and didn't see his parents' car in the compound. Heaving a sigh, he brought out the bunch of keys in his pocket and unlocked the door. He went inside and closed the door behind him.
He laid in the living room on one of the couches. He went to his call history and saw he'd already dialed Stella's line up to 27 times. "I've called her a lot of times but she's refused to pick up my calls", he said within himself.
He decided to to try one more time. While it was ringing, he stood up and walked to his room. He got to his room and laid upwards on his bed as he watched his phone, hoping she'd pick up. Stella didn't still pick up his call and he gave up. He kept the phone beside him and laid on the bed with his side this time, backing his phone.

About an hour later, his parents walked into his room quietly and saw their son sleeping. "Let's not wake him up from sleep. Let's go", Dad told Mum with a low voice and walked out of the room. Mum went and covered him with the blanket on the bed without making a sound and walked out of his bedroom.
At about 9pm, his phone beeped and he woke up. He yawned and picked up his phone to check out the notification. It was an SMS from Stella.
It read;"The relationship between us has ended. We have nothing to do with each other ever again." David was really hurt by the text. He just kept his phone beside him and sat up. He looked upwards with lots of things going through his mind.
David, completely dressed in his school uniform went to the dining room to have his breakfast before going to school. He greeted his parents in a dull manner and although his parents replied to him, they sensed it was a different version of their son, he was obviously sad looking.
"What's wrong Dave?", Dad asked him, feeling worried. David covered up his sad face with a smile to Dad.
"Nothing Dad! It's just stress from school", he answered.
"Are you sure it's only school stress?", Dad asked another, not yet convinced.
"Yes Dad! Calm down...I'm utterly okay", David faked a happy face.
His Mum watched him as he had his breakfast. She knew something was bothering David but she wondered what it could be. "Why are you hiding something from us?", she thought.

In school, Dad drove into the compound and parked for David to get down from the car. David got out and was about closing the door without saying a goodbye but his Dad called him.
"You want to break with the precedent huh?", he asked.
David thought about what he was supposed to do for a while until it occurred to him he hadn't yet said a goodbye. "Oh! Sorry Dad...I forgot. Goodbye Dad! Have a wonderful day", he apologized and greeted.
Dad gave him a plain reply, not smiling at all. "Goodbye David!", he said. He drove away while David went to his class.
David was walking past Stella's class when he saw her sitting on her chair alone, talking to no one. He kept on staring at her as he walked past hoping she'd turn to see him but to no avail. Sadly, he walks into his classroom.

During break period, David sat alone in the study park, watching Stella having some fun with her group of female friends. David felt really heartbroken.
His own group of male friends suddenly encircled him to gossip about the girls. "You see that one guys, the one at the extreme left...the fairest of them all, she's the one I'm crushing on", one of them said.
"Not bad mate! That girl is very chic. She's the closest friend to Stella so...you could use David and get to the girl", replied another. He punches David lightly at the shoulder;"Right Dave?" David gave no reply which surprised everyone. They could clearly now see his sad face.
"What's wrong mate? You're looking dull at the moment", said one of them, placing his hand on David's shoulder and patted him.
Before he could say a word, the fourth person asked;"Why aren't you with Stella right now? You guys normally hang out during break periods." Others observed it too and all concurred something was going on between David and Stella...something not good! They demanded David for an explanation of what had happened.
David made everyone keep quiet with his gestures. When everyone had kept quiet, he told them;"Stella and I are no more a thing." They couldn't believe what they heard. Questions began flooding out of their mouths.
"When did you guys break up?", asked one of them.
"It was last night", he answered immediately to prepare for others.
"Who initiated the break up?", asked the second. David wanted replying but the first person interrupted with an answer.
"He's the sad one...who else do you think would have asked for a break up?", he asked rhetorically.
"Oh! It's very obvious now", said the second, after looking at David's face.
"What caused the break up? Did you do anything that got her pissed off?", asked the third. Everybody was silent because they all wanted to listen to what David had to say.
"Well...I'll be honest, I understand her a lot, I'm the very cause of the break up", replied David cool-headedly.
"What did you do?", asked by the same person.
"Whenever that monster came to attack and we were both there, I'd always get scared and run away, not minding her safety", David said to his friends.
"Woah! That was selfish of you bro to be honest", one said to him.
"Go and talk to her and promise you'd be a changed person", said another.
"I've tried but she doesn't even want to see my face", David began to feel sober.
"Relax mate! She's just angry, she'll come back to have a word with you very soon", another comforted him.
"I think so too. Someone that loves you won't just stop having the same feelings overnight...unless she never did", added the first. David looked at him worried by what he'd just heard. "I know she really loves you. Don't overthink about it", he said to make David feel at ease.
"Let's go to the classroom guys. I think that will be a better place to stay right now, rather than letting Dave look at Stella all day and be sad by it", the fourth suggested. They all agreed. David gradually got up and his friends followed him as they walked to the classroom.
When they'd left, Stella turned to look at David. She was gloomy as she watched him walk away. Her friends called on her and she faked up a happy face, making up an excuse she was watching some junior students play. She rejoined them in their condo but would gradually look towards David frequently.
