CHAPTER 6

                            THE CHILD

When Amanda parked her car after traveling from the city to buy internet, she took a moment to look at the view of the forest. She went around to the backyard to take a look at how huge it was and the entirety of the lush forest. The wind blew rigorously, whirling the trees around. As she was about to depart from where she was standing, she saw a little girl with brown curly hair standing in a tree. The child had a white suit on and seemed to be around six years old. The little girl was watching her from afar when she abruptly took off running.

"I'm pretty intrigued." The little girl showed up again.

"Perhaps I can visit that place once more to seek the answers to my searching over there."

She didn't allow the little girl to get away from her line of sight. The child seemed to be real and not a mere ghost, and she wanted to speak with it.

She stopped and took a deep breath, exhausted from running, and when she looked around, she saw the little girl peeping and hiding in a tree not far from her. She walked and approached the little girl, but she ran away. She chased after the little girl; because the place was full of trees, it was difficult for her to run, and the little girl ran fast. It seemed that what she saw was not a ghost. She pursued the little child till she fell off a cliff edge. She lay on the ground tumbled, but there was no pain, for she was surrounded by thick, dry fallen leaves. She recovered from her fall and got to her feet while she pondered how she could get up while still inside the cliff. She was startled when she saw a skull, which caused her to recoil. She claimed that she had previously discovered two cliffs where she found human bones and skulls. She believed that this individual might have fallen and been unable to get up, losing their life here as a result. Amanda was anxious. She grabbed a tree limb and dug up a leaf close to the skull to look over it.

The girl was still wearing the trousers, and her blouse was torn when she was only able to look a bit deeper. She also discovered brown hair that was slightly curled. As she examined it, she was consumed with sorrow and despair at what she discovered. She realized that the dead woman either fell or was killed as she determined the deceased's corpse. She kept asking herself the same questions.

She got up and made two unsuccessful attempts to climb the cliff, but she failed on both occasions. She took a breath and let herself ventilate before trying to climb once more. Amanda found the guts to cautiously climb up after just a short while.

When she was ready to climb again, she did so slowly and focusedly, until she finally reached the top and left the cliff. She thought earlier about how she fell into the cliff; she said she didn't see that there was a cliff here or that the little girl passed by here either; she wasn't able to see the little girl anymore.

She left where she was standing and walked, heading for home because she was not familiar with the forest where the way home was. It's getting dark, and she still hasn't reached home. She stopped for a moment and looked around; it was very quiet. When she stepped forward, she heard a child and a woman's laughter. Two people have an ambiguous conversation. They enjoyed an intense connection. They seemed to have a happy bond together. She said to herself that she made it feel like she was just being played with. She felt a little scared and nervous, but she braved it in the middle of the forest. She continued to walk, and she sped up. Without knowing it, as she was continuously walking, she could see her aunt's house. Her fear eased, and she quickly ran until she reached home.

"Where have you been?" Auntie, who was standing at the door with a straight face,

"Auntie, I'm just venting, and I'm sorry if it takes me a long time to get home, auntie."

"Dear, you didn't even let me know where you were going."
"We talked about that yesterday."
"Next time, Auntie, I will let you know." "Don't worry, and don't be angry with me, Auntie."

Amanda was nervous at her aunt's reaction because she looked annoyed.

"Eat there; I prepared something," her auntie calmly said.

Her aunt's mood suddenly altered, and everything else became calm.

She went to the kitchen and looked at her aunt's cooking, and she didn't like the smell of cooking. She first looked at her auntie to see if she would enter her room because she thought of going upstairs and eating the food she had stored there. She doesn't want to eat what her aunt cooked because of the smell. When she saw her auntie enter the room, she pretended to be eating. She gave herself about ten minutes to sit at the table pretending to eat, and then she pretended to finish eating and washed the dishes even though she didn't use them, for if her auntie hears it, she will think that she has already eaten.

"Hayss, the smell of what she cooked was different, and I saw a dead corpse earlier, and it makes me lose my stamina," she said softly to herself.

She felt that her auntie was annoyed earlier. She is a bit nervous, as if something bad has happened in the house or somewhere here. What happened yesterday happened again today, and she doesn't want to go there anymore. She stood up, and suddenly her aunt's door opened, and she came out. She was a little nervous.

"Dear, is what I cooked good?"
"Ah, yes, Auntie, I liked it."
"Okay, I'll cook that for you in the next few days." Amanda just nodded.

Amanda doesn't like food; in fact, the smell of it makes her want to vomit. Amanda went up after her auntie told her to. She took the food that was stored in the cabinet and immediately ate a sandwich that she put mayonnaise on. While she was eating, Amanda thought carefully about why two people died in the forest, whether it was possible that her auntie didn't know what happened there, and whether there was a connection to her auntie's always wearing black clothes because it has a meaning for her. She remembered that whenever she asked about her aunt's family, she seemed to get angry and didn't want to talk about it.

"Hayss, I better focus on my work now."

"I've been to the back, to the forest; I finished wandering around, and here I am working to do the task. Maybe my aunt will get angry at me for asking about her family."
After she ate, she opened her phone, and it didn't want to open because it turned out to be low on battery. She charged it first to have a load, and then she opened the computer to start working.
