Chapter 32 The Pretence

A few minutes after Nanny Courtney left, she came rushing back with the whole first-aid kit; not knowing what to take nor leave out.
“Here sir,” She muttered amidst panting, handing over the kit to Bella’s Dad as she joined the rest of the family standing beside the bed with anticipation written all over their faces.
“Is she going to be okay?” Her mother asked, watching as her husband passed the inhaler of Bella’s nose. The intensity of her panic was evident in her voice. “Is that..” She went on about to say something when Bella sneezed; regaining her conscience. “Oh, Bell–” She grumbled in relief while she hurried over to her.
A whippy cry escaped Bella’s mouth on seeing her mother and she instinctively curled into her bosom, wrapping her hand around her. “I’m so scared mum–” She cried.
Mrs. Lassey deftly glanced up at her husband at her daughter's words then back to Bella. “It’s okay dear.” She affirmed, brushing a hand on Bella’s hair. “I’m here now. There’s no need to be scared.” She assured.
Baron, Bella’s kid sister watched in anxiety as her elder sister shook in fear under their mother's arms; not sure of what was going on as she had never seen her like that.
After spending a few more minutes in Bella’s room and resting assured that she was better, everybody left off to their rooms except Mrs. Lassey who insisted on staying.
Mr. Lassey left off to their room whiles Baron left off with Nanny Courtney. Just when they were about to step into her room, Baron held Nanny Courtney’s hand which made her glance at her with a quizzical look.
“Is Bella going to be alright?” She asked with a worried gaze.
Nanny Courtney noticing Baron’s fear instinctively smiled, raffling her hair in the process. “Of course dear. All she needs is a little rest and she will be fine. Now come on, you need to rest too.” She draped her hand over her shoulders and guided her into the room, slowly closing the door behind them.
Roxy on the other hand was no different from Bella. She was so shielded in fear that she could barely make out any word after regaining consciousness.
Though the night was rough for all of them, they somewhere somehow pulled through in one piece; all thanks to their families who came running to their aid.

It was still the weekends and things were still not going out smoothly for Phidel either. All she needed was consent from her mother to stay in the Netherlands in Phidelia’s place but it was already being hard as her mother would not even want to talk about it.
The day had already begun with little or fewer chores in the house to do. Phidel sat in her room listening to her music when suddenly one of the books sitting on the mini shelves on her right corner of the room; getting to the drawer fell off.
She deftly turned to it with a furrowed brow; slightly sitting upright from her relaxing position as her eyes traveled across the room. The calculative look on her face was evident enough to tell how confused she was.
With a bit of hesitation, she shrugged off the bed – putting her headphones aside. With slow and skeptical steps she shuffled over to where the book lay; picking it up in the process. She instinctively lurked around once again then back to the book in her hand; her brows slightly creased as she wondered how it fell so easily without any interference
She stared at it for some seconds and raised her shoulder in a half shrug, returning the book in its place.
Just then, the door swung opened with a great force– followed by Isla’s witty giggles which had Phidel swiftly glance at it.
“Hey–” She chuckled with a furrowed brow, seeing the state of ecstasy Isla was in. “What’s up with you?” She queried, approaching Isla who was standing beside the bed with smiles dancing merrily on her lips.
“Guess what?” Isla muttered, settling on the bed.
“What?” Phidel sharply scoffed, taking her seat beside Isla with smiles glittering in her eyes. “Just spill it Isla, you know I’m not good at guesses or probably don't have time for them.” She commented.
Isla playfully crinkled her nose in disappointment; pretending to hurt but then smiles instinctively swept her face once again as she couldn't hide her excitement.
“Aunty Jerome has finally agreed to have you return to Wesley High.” She announced.
Phil's eyes instantly widened in ecstasy as her mouth opened in an 'O' sound with a bright smile lingering on her face.
“Really?” She almost shouted it out but instinctively lowered her voice. “When did she agree?”She asked.
“Not so sure.” Isla replied, “But I overheard them when I was on my way here to invite out for a stroll in town.” She hinted.
“Oh, mine.” Phidel gasped, her excitement evident on her face.
“Just pretend you don't know yet,” Isla advised, trying to play it safe. “So would you like to come with me? Just needed to get a few stationaries from town.” She added.
“Of course,” Phidel answered. “I’m so coming with you.” She went on, shrugging from the bed while she hurried to the wardrobe for her small bag. “Hope Jade is also coming along?” She queried as she returned to Isla who was by now on her feet. “I've not spent much time with you guys.”
“Yes, he is,” Isla replied as they turned on their feet to leave. “He’s even waiting for us outside.” She added while they walked out of the door, closing it behind them.

It was just a normal day in the Blanksons’ family with nothing to do except lazing around. As usual, both Mr. and Mrs. Blankson were out of the house on their businesses; having the slightest idea what happened the night before but Tina was already used to it.
She sat in the hall behind her laptop, literally forgetting whatever occurred or better still– pretending nothing happened when Lucas walked up to her; leaning over her shoulders with Tina having no idea of his presence.
“What are you...” He uttered but then, Tina almost jumped out of her skin; making him pause within words with a furrowed brow.
“God damn't Lucas.” She blunted on noticing who the intruder was. “What the hell do you think you're doing?”
“Come on sis–” He snapped in, gliding over the sofa to where Tina sat. “I didn't mean to scare you like that. I’m sorry.” He apologized.
Tina accepted anyway since she couldn't be angry with him for long; He was like an annoying puppy if she was to put it right.
At that instant, Tina left off to the kitchen for a glass of water. Just as she left, Lucas noticed the pen drive from last night. It was the same drive she was watching something from when he walked into her room.
He knew from instinct his sister was acting weird lately but couldn't figure out what could be wrong.
“Could it be about the drive?” He grumbled to himself. “Let’s find out.” He muttered, glancing towards the kitchen for any sign of his sister.
