Chapter Twenty Two

Isabella P.OV.
I was in the middle of nowhere. I was starving. Mud ruined my clothes, and my bare feet bled from running. My hair was in a bun, though wet and dirty. My lips cracked from dryness, and my eyes were tired, my legs were tired, I was tired. The thorny bushes scratched my left hand. I emerged from the bushes I’ve been hiding, the sunlight hitting my face. Everywhere appeared empty. Blood and dead bodies filled the roads. It looked scary, I never thought the town I grew up in, will turn into something like this. It looked horrifying, every where was very quite. I searched for anyone until I spotted a news reporter.
“Hey, help! Please help me." I waved my hand, trying to get her attention. I was just a few steps away from her when I spotted someone behind her. He was here, He was just ten steps away from her.
“Run!” I said. “He’s coming towards you! Run for your life." I shouted However, it was too late for her.
A week earlier...
I approached the attic door, searching for the book. I haven’t been in the attic for like a long time; no one actually goes there unless you have something you want to keep.
Slowly, I opened the door, only for the dust to welcome me. Coughing and waving my hand, I stepped inside the room. Blue and white paint covered the walls, though the white portion was dirty from the dust. Different newspapers filled the desk. A horrible scent reached my nose, having me scrunch my face. What died in here? I thought.
As I began my search, I wasn’t sure what the book looks like. It could be anywhere, hidden from the old newspapers, magazines, novels, etc. When I was searching I came across a picture of my mom with a tall, dark man rather too dark. His face wasn’t clear, but my mother appeared happy. It was weird because mom mentioned that my dad was her first and never had friends. There was something written behind it. I turned the picture over. It says, “Even death can’t take you away from me.” That's sounded creepy, which freak would say that kind of thing?. I was looking at the picture, I felt there was something about this picture, something that wasn't normal, something that was beyond me.
“What are you looking at?” a voice said behind me. Quickly, I threw the picture, where it landed on the other side of the room.
“Oh, nothing. Just looking for the book,” I explained to mom.
My mother studied me as if she suspected I saw something I wasn’t supposed to see. She crossed her arms. “Isa…”
I was about to reveal the truth when I learned what she was talking about. The book was beside me, it was kept on the desk. “Oh, there it is, sorry I didn't see it earlier” Mentally, I sighed, and the tensions around my muscles loosened. I quickly grabbed the book.
"What is the book mom? What is it about." I asked Mom while opening the book.
"It a special book, like a door way to the other world." My mother explained.
"How did you find it? I mean how did you get the book" I asked my mother.
"That's a story for another day Isa." My mother said.
I flipped through the pages when I discovered that a page was missing.
“Falta una página( a page is missing)." I said while pointing at the place.
“Oh, let me have a look at that.” My mother examined the book for a long time, flipping through the pages.
"It looks like it was torn mom."
“Well it doesn't matter, whatever it is, I don’t think it was important. What we want is right here. Come. Let’s go.”
As she was leaving, my mom was feeling better. Once she was gone, I tried finding the picture when I spotted it under the table. I knelt down, extending my arm to reach it, but I couldn’t. after a quick adjustment to my body, my fingers touched the picture, allowing me to grab it.
As I took out the picture, my head jerked back as it showed Lara with a coffin in front of her. I turned the image to see something written behind it:
“Count your days Isa”
My heart pounded inside my chest. What does Lara mean? Why is she after me? How did the picture change? Was she here? Shaking off the uncomfortable feelings, I headed my way downstairs to the living room where my mom called me. She sat on the couch, looking grim.
“What happened, Mom? You look worried, are you okay." I asked.
"Yes Isa I'm fine, There is something I want to tell you." My mother said while tapping on the couch next to her indicating that I should come and sit.
"What is it mom? Why are you worried."
“It’s tomorrow.” my mother said in a low voice.
"What is tomorrow mom? What happening tomorrow." I asked my mother.
"Isa I need you to calm down, don't get hypered okay." Mom said while coming close to me.
“What do you mean? What’s tomorrow?”
“The full moon.”
“What?” I didn’t expect to be so soon. I wish I didn’t want to be a part of this, but I had no choice, I had to do this for mom, She needs it from me.
Sensing my apprehension, my mother hugged me. “ It going to be okay Isa, Trust me. I promise all will be fine."She said
.
"It okay mom."
"Be to be ready by 10pm, okay?”
“Sure.”
