“Okay, so let me get this straight,” Ana still can’t believe what I just said, “You said that Gray told you that you two are married, am I right?” I nodded, “And you didn’t have the courage to check if it’s really true, am I right, too?” I nodded. She didn’t say anything and started collecting her things on the table into her bag, my forehead crease, trying to know what she was doing, I followed her moving, until she stand up and wore her glasses, “Are you going?” I asked, confused. “Yes, and you’re coming with me,” she said, “Let’s go, grab your things and your frappe,” her tone sounded permanent, like there no ain’t way that I can stop her from doing what she likes to do. So, I just followed her and grabbed my things like she said, “Are you mad? I mean, I muster the courage to tell you, though, it was two years late—” “No, I’m not mad, well, a little bit,” I stood up, and she clung her arms on mine, “But now that I knew what happen, everything is okay,” I looked at her with both disbelieve and suspicious, “Where are we going?” She smirks, “We will be going to check your marital status,” “Hey, wait, I’m not prepared to do that—” we both get in her car, as she maneuvered the steering wheel. “Then, when will you be? This is the chance to see, what if you suddenly get married to let say, love of your life? Then, he’ll discover that you’re still married?” “Ana, it’s far from—” “Nope, that will happen pretty soon, so let’s check and verify,” Ana has a point, it’s now or never. I let a heavy sigh and nodded. Althroughout the car ride, my heart is pounding, there’s a lot of ‘what ifs’ on my mind right now. “Can we just postpone—” “Nope, we’re about arrive no less than fifteen minutes, so sit back and relax,” I didn’t have the chance to stop her again after that. Like what Ana said, we arrived, no later than fifteen minutes, I was hesitant to go inside the civil registrar building. I took a short glance at Ana, she smiles knowingly and tap my shoulder, “Let’s go, babe,” she chirps and excitedly clapped her hands. I had to fill out some information about me, and had to pay a few bucks for rush order, we waited for about thirty-minutes before my name got called, Ana excitedly get the paper. “Let’s open this to your favorite café!” it was a five-minute walk, so we arrived like one minute with car, I didn’t have the chance to order my favorite drink since I’m a bit nervous, “Okay, so are you ready?” “You literally forced me to be here,” I muttered and rolled my eyes. “Shut up,” I chuckled and said nothing, she opened the envelop, her eyes scanned the paper, in just a snap, her eyes widen, “OMG!” she chirped, some customers throw her a brief glance before minding their business again, “So, okay, it says here that you are Elina Marquez Spencer! What the f! it sounds so good with her surname on yours!” I was dumfounded. My foolishness flashback before my eyes, from the moment I talked to him until the moment I woke up to a foreign bed with no memories of that night. “Ana, how do I fix that?” She shrugs her shoulder, “You’ve got to meet your husband first,” Damn it. ****** “Eli, can I instead get that project to submit that?” Caroline, a newly trained staff approached me, she was obviously trying to hit his chance with Marco. I just nodded and let her get the papers beside me, “Thank you!” I continued on encoding the files that will be needed tomorrow morning. We have a new investor, and they are too meticulous, they are most likely perfectionist, and we have to prepare with the best that we can, they are no ordinary investors, they plan to bring the company’s name abroad. I keep myself busy to forget that goddamn marriage certificate. I was busy drinking my coffee and encoding when Caroline came back—crying. I halt and looked at her with confusion. “What happen?” I immediately asked. She was trying to stop herself from crying, “He is a freaking monster, he called me names,” “What did you do to make him say that?” Marco isn’t a type of person who will get mad for no reason, there must be something off that she did that made him frustrated. “I just asked him about her type for a woman, or a girlfriend, then he got mad and called me slut and whore!” I sighed, “You shouldn’t have said that, Caroline. I told you, try to be professional as long as you can, he’s the director, and not just anyone you could hit on,” I tried to console her. I’m not even surprise when she gave me a death glare, “You must be one of the women who wants to take their chance, you whore, stop pretending on consoling me, when in fact you’re fucking clapping inside your dumb head!” I stopped caressing her back and gave her a smug smile, “Well, unlike you, I don’t initiate to get laid?” “Fuck—” she “Mr. Director!” she halted and immediately turn around, only to see Marco standing. With his furious eyes and gnawing jaw, “Do you need anything, sir?” Ms. Lara asked. “Yes, I want to remind everyone; the next time I assign your task, you should be the one who will coordinate with me, and don’t ever dare to use other employees to make your job just to slack around,” I don’t know what to feel, because he was looking straight to my eyes while saying those words. My brow creased in confusion, is he pertaining to me, and thought that I was handling my work to other employees to slack around? I chuckled. He is still the same, After all. Judgmental, bastard, oh whatever. I don’t give a fuck.
