Chapter 29 Assurance

“What the hell is happening here?” we all turned to the source of the angry voice, and indeed, Grayson was back, frowning as he looked at us.
But I was feeling sour now, not happy about what I just heard. He kept insisting to me, but I could hardly understand what he was saying, and suddenly I felt dizzy.
“Blood!” Ive’s voice rang out. She was one of our household staff here.
“Shit, Eli!” Grayson rushed towards me, along with the others. He had a handkerchief and wiped my senses. That’s when I felt the pain, a bit of blood also dripping on my white shirt.
“I’m okay,” I wanted to congratulate myself for not fainting, but truthfully, I was feeling dizzy, and I didn’t want to move anymore. “You talk to your visitor first; I’ll go inside,” I replied and tried to stand up.
“Who the fuck are you, miss?” I heard her say, still holding my arm to help me stand. I gently shrugged her off, raising an eyebrow as she looked at me with a furrowed brow, but I ignored her and let her talk.
“I’m pregnant, so, so you have to take responsibility for me!” the lady shouted again, as if she were speaking into a microphone with the volume turned up, maybe she was a singer in her past life, the kind you throw into the river.
“I don’t even fucking know you, how can I get you pregnant? Are you stupid?” he replied harshly. I saw how the woman’s eyes slowly filled with tears, and soon enough, she burst into tears, sounding like a child who didn’t get the toy she wanted.
“This is your child, you have to take responsibility!” she kept insisting, and without wasting any more time, I went inside. I wasn’t jealous or anything; I was just offended. What if she really was carrying his child? Would I have broken up a family? If he knew she was pregnant, why would he force me to pretend to be his wife? But why didn’t he recognize her? But then again, we also didn’t know each other, but why did we do it?
What the fuck! What am I even thinking!
I think that woman hit me hard. I didn’t do anything, she hurt me!
—-
Four days had passed since that incident with the woman claiming to be carrying Grayson’s child. I didn’t know what happened between them, but it’s none of my business. I’m still annoyed about what happened, but I’m just waiting for him to admit that he’s the father of her child and then kick me out.
But wait a minute,
Aren’t we legally married?! Isn’t our marriage still valid?!
Damn it!
I took a deep breath to suppress the anger engulfing me right now. He’s helping me right now, so there’s nothing I can do at the moment.
I decided to just visit my siblings at the hospital, including Jane. I knew she didn’t have classes today, so I’m sure she’s at home because she usually stays with Dan at night.
I took a quick shower and dressed in a plain white shirt and jumper, paired with white sneakers and a white headband. I grabbed my bag and carefully descended the stairs. My head wound was somewhat better now; it wasn’t that big, and luckily, it was covered by my hair, because if it weren’t, damn, that’s unfair.
“Oh, are you leaving too, dear?” Nana Jo greeted me as I descended from my room. I caught them slicing vegetables and cleaning the kitchen. Some of them were in other parts of the house, doing their duties.
“Rin? Did Grayson leave too?” she asked in surprise.
“Yeah, almost fifteen minutes before you came down,” I nodded and sat on a high stool, munching on the watermelon Nana Jo was slicing. “Where are you going?”
“I’m just going to visit my siblings; it’s been almost a week since I last visited them because I’ve been too busy here and looking for a job,” I explained.
“Oh, dear, that’s right. Don’t rely on Grayson; it’s better if you have your own money. Even though you’re married, you should still grow in your own fields. Do well there; I know you’ll succeed,” she said.
I nodded and smiled at her before standing up from my seat. I took two large pieces of watermelon, earning me a glare from her, which I just laughed off. “I’m leaving, Nana! I’ll probably be back tonight or maybe tomorrow,”
“Just make sure to call your husband so he won’t worry about you,” as if he would worry, but of course, I didn’t say that. I just nodded and went out because I didn’t have a car, I just walked, and this subdivision seemed high class, not even a tricycle, it’s required to have a car.
I walked for almost ten minutes before reaching the guardhouse, sweating profusely. The guards offered me water, which I declined, saying I had some already. When I reached the corner, I immediately hopped on a jeep. The trip lasted about thirty minutes, and I bought some fruits first, so Jane would have something to eat at night while she watched over Dan.
The tubes connected to Dan had been reduced; a little more, and he’ll be okay. I trust my sister; she’s doing well.
“Dan, wake up. You’ve been missing a lot of lessons at school. Wake up, you’re so annoying to be with,” I held his left hand and kissed it. I didn’t know if he could hear me, but I hoped he did. I hope he wakes up soon.
I also talked to the doctor to ask about his condition, and good thing, he’s improving. He’s responding to some tests now, not like before, like a vegetable with no feeling or response.
Next, I headed straight to our house. I did a little grocery shopping because I didn’t know if there were still stocks. I didn’t knock because I had a key. When I entered the house, it was quiet, clean as if no one had touched it, and I felt a sense of loneliness. Before, even if there were just three of us, it was still happy here. Now, it seems like we’re just paying to have a place to sleep, not a home.
I opened my room, it was still the same, just like when I left, but hasn’t Jane come home yet? Why is it so quiet? I thought she didn’t have classes today; maybe I’ll just leave or call her. I slowly closed my door and was about to leave when I heard faint sobs.
Naturally, I dropped my belongings and ran towards her, “Shhh, everything will be alright, hush.”
“Why does it have to be me?! Why do I have to get pregnant?!” she screamed as she pounded her stomach, “I don’t want this child anymore! I can’t pretend anymore!”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at my sister, my heart breaking at the sight of her pain.
“I’m doing everything, Jane. Don’t worry, we’ll get the justice you deserve. I’ll make sure they pay for what they did,” I assured her.
She paused for a moment and looked at me, “What do you mean, Eli? How? They’re so rich and well-connected.”
I smiled to reassure her, “Didn’t I mention that my husband is a billionaire?”
