Chapter 53 Please Him
“May went here, and no longer bathed. You allegedly pushed him with pig manure," said Nanay Isay disappointed even though she knew that June was tired and late to eat lunch in her hut.
"Nanay, why is he like that when he's acting like that? She was even jealous of my former student before. I feel like she really believes what I said that we're going to get married," June replied before letting out a deep sigh.
"Because May wants you right away. And what else can you expect from someone like her with amnesia? She's probably still naive when it comes to thinking. We also can't predict the things that are playing in her brain as long as she knows, let's say you're married and she wants to play the role of a housewife. It's hard for you to come in June, it looks like May really likes you." Nanay Isay rubbed her forehead as she sat on the bamboo chair.
"She still has food for you." He pulled out the lunch box that was lying on the table.
"She made it for me?" June asked. That's why May was upset with her, she also made an effort to prepare food but she behaved badly before.
"Yes, she was still very happy when she cooked that. I said you like porridge. All right, have lunch because I'm done." Mother Isay was so bored that she left the hut.
"I'll just harvest ampalaya for bitter people like you!" it added before finally getting away.
June took a deep breath. With those assumptions, he will be obliged to coax May. But he has no one to blame but himself. If only he let her go and didn't bother to tell those lies, he wouldn't have had a headache.
This problem is even more difficult to solve than the equations he used to solve in calculus.
Meanwhile, May has also recovered from crying all day. She also locked himself in the room after he also took a bath. She just stared at the wall as he wondered why June's treatment of him was so cold, as if his disgust was full to the bone. Or maybe she's just exaggerating it. She knew June was kind but his kindness was selective.
There's a deep reason for that, I hope her memory returns. From the drawer she pulled out the notebook given by Nanay Isay. Only now will she start writing notes about her daily life with June. And she winced when she realized that the first thing she was going to write was not good.
Note 1: "I just wanted to surprise my wife June, I cooked her lunch but still nothing has changed in his attitude. He pushed me into the smelly ground. It's annoying today!
May leaned against the headboard of the bed and closed her eyes. She let go of the intense drowsiness.
June was forced to enter May's room because she did not open it even though she had knocked three times on the door.
That's why May is sound asleep. He noticed the notebook he was holding while sleeping. He didn't tend to interfere with other people's belongings so he put them back in the drawer.
He felt a hint of fondness while looking at her. But he also felt guilty for his actions and he should be responsible for the outcome of it.
‘How can I adjust now that I'm in the same house with a woman I don't even know?’
He hugged May well and she was shocked.
"You woke up right away? Just, wow." The wrinkle on June's forehead trembled. Maybe so alert May's actions are due to her possible job or that she's a criminal. And again, his assumptions were on another level.
He shrugged. It is wrong to be judgmental, his guilt towards May only grows when he thinks about it badly.
"Maybe a bad person got in so I'm alert, and I didn't make a mistake." May smirked and averted her eyes from June. No matter how sympathetic her husband is, she can't be weak and just allow him to flirt with her.
She must have seen how June would regret what she had done earlier. He must convince her with sincerity.
"I just wanted to say that I cooked dinner. It's a payback from you preparing lunch for me." June's voice was even colder in the room's aircon.
"Did you eat?" Overflowing pleasure appeared on May's face. She wanted to restrain himself, June wasn't even doing anything, she gave up right away. She couldn’t stand being tough in the face of it.
"Of course, it's bad to consume food," June replied without a smile.
"I mean, you have no choice so you ate? You're really angry," May snapped and the smile on her innocent face slowly faded.
She felt offended and she just wanted to slap herself for looking so stupid in front of this arrogant man.
"Because I ate delicious. I'm even exhausted. Okay?" June tried to show a sympathetic smile in front of May. It makes her pretend. It seems to want to flirt.
"Okay. But I'm not going to eat," May insisted and covered herself with a blanket.
"Fine, I'm not going to be hungry. I'm going to sleep," June retorted.
"Won't you try to compromise with me? It's your fault, isn't it?"
Instead of coaxing her, June just stared at her. "It's my fault that you're jealous? Well, the woman I saw earlier was a former student of mine so you don't have to be jealous. I'm not a young student's catapult."
"Eh, why did you push me?" Tears welled up in May's eyes again so she thought of making an effective excuse so as not to add to her sadness.
"Because I smelled like sweat before, and I don't want you to hug me all of a sudden. You don't like the smell of sweat, do you?" forced reason by June.
"Why should I dislike you, my husband?"
"Of course. Just— I just don't want you to be surprised by my actions. That's why I'm distant. You don't remember me yet."
"All right, I understand. I'm sorry for being jealous. Promise, I'll respect your space, if you don't want to approach you I can't do anything. Just, don't be rude anymore," May pleaded.
The smile on June's lips curved. "Does it mean you're going to have dinner tonight?”
"Yes."
"Then, get up. The dish will be cold," June ordered.
"Can you lift me?"
"What? Are you a handicapped person?" He was surprised by May's demand. She obviously wants to be cherished and served as if they are actually married. This is weird but he has to deal with it. He, in turn, got into this mess.
"Fine," June replied. He carried and lifted May like the wrestler smiled but in a different way. He carried it like he was a wrestling opponent. It was as if he was a wrestler ready to throw May in the way he was lifted. But still, he carried her in his arms with gentleness.
He heard May's giggle of laughter until they reached the first floor.
"Your sweetness is weird June," he whispered as he lowered her to the sofa.
"Is that sweet? You're not afraid I might let you go?" June asked crookedly.
"Aren't you my husband? And I will only entrust my life to you." Her eyes were sparkling, she said it from her heart. He really loves June and he doesn't want to be away from her.
"Be careful with people you trust. You might just be disappointed," June said softly. May didn't hear that because she went straight to the kitchen to serve dinner for the two of them.
His conscience swallowed him up even more. These lies should swiftly end.
***
After the shared dinner, May felt light again. As she promised himself, he would not demand that June approach him as long as he stopped insulting her
He went back to bed and resumed writing in the diary.
"My lovely husband, June, prepared dinner for me as her peace offering to me. I mean, he really loves me. He's just not really showy. I shouldn't be jealous of any woman he talks to. I'm still his wife, eh, I should just be complacent. And he should be the only one I can trust. "
***
May set an alarm, she woke up at 6 AM sharp. She just took a shower, cooked and had coffee, then she immediately looked for June.
"It's gone, you're supposed to dress properly. You'll take care of what you wear. She bought some clothes." Nanay Isay expected May to look for June right away so she preceded it.
"Really? He even bothered to buy. And he didn't even tell me." May's heart celebrated because of the thrill that arose in her heart. Afterall, her husband cares for her.
‘That’s right, he’s just not really showy.’
"I'll get dressed right away, he's on the farm, isn't he?"
Nanay Isay nodded with a smile. June's fake wife has a beautiful aura today. So much love was obvious on her face, so in that part, her heart seemed to pinch.
It's all just a show. He hurts May because he enjoys lying. And Mother Isay also knows that June will never love another woman. But hopefully, a miracle will happen and her heart will also open for others, and hopefully only for May.
But dhe knew it was impossible so he had nothing else to do but let time dictate in June's heart who he would love.
May was able to change her clothes quickly. She chose to wear a dress that was over knee length.
That's her goal, to dress confidently in front of her husband. She should be able to impress June. She paired 2 inch heels with her dress.
She then looked like a rich bratinella who was the heir to the hacienda. And June the handsome haciendero that many admire will meet her beauty.
She walked while swaying her body. He just walked the road to the farm because it was not too far even in the other village. He also wants to save on fares.
As she walked, he was distracted. She looks so foreign to other people. No one seemed to know him, or he just looked stupid as he joked as he walked.
He was just excited to see June and taste his cooked breakfast.
In the distance, he saw June plowing the land. May walked modestly but with a little speed to approach it.”
"June!" She calls her husband.
But instead of delight, shock registered on June's face when he saw her whole being.
"Did you come here wearing that dress?" June asked and then a critical look hovered over May. But he could not deny that the curve of her body was exposed in the dress she was wearing. She's sexy but her sexiness is decent and classy.
It's just numb not to feel admiration for her appearance.
"Because Mother Isay said, I should dress properly," May admitted shyly.
"Ah, of course. I forgot to say that I have something to do. We used to do this every morning." June's meaningful smile flashed. He tried his best to ignore her gorgeous look.
"What is it?" May asked excitedly.
"Follow me."
***
June still smiled as he ordered May to plow the land. She had no intention of tripping over it but she still wanted revenge for what she did yesterday.
"How deep? Look," May said and June approached her. Even though the sweat was dripping and even though the action was good because of the dress she was wearing, she chose not to complain. She's willing to do anything just to please her husband.
"You're too deep, give back that other land," June commanded in a defiant tone.
"All right," May replied sparingly and matched that with a smile. He thought his skin was going to burn but she just shrugged.
After an hour of plowing, June helped May harvest a lot of squash.
"Just put what you can push in the cart," June instructed and picked only small watermelons to fill the cart held by May.
"Even if you put it all away," May said proudly. He was followed by June. It put all the healthy pumpkin.
"Give it a try," he retorted.
May complied and pushed the fully loaded cart with all his might. June sighed. He underestimated her strength. This woman is unique.
And it didn’t even bother to act even dressed up. But even so, he still felt sorry for her. He followed it with a shake and snatched the cart from it.
"Just change your clothes. I know it's very difficult to move in that dress, you need your work outfit. I'm sorry and I didn't tell Nanay Isay that you should wear the jumper that was included in the ones I bought, "June explained in her apologetic voice.
May just smiled. Her heart was screaming with joy again because of June's indirect concern. For her, that approach is sweet enough.
"Where will I change?"
"Come on, I've built a hut here," June said formally. He walked first but May suddenly put her hand on his arm. And that made him gulped. May always do things that shocks him. Very weird but in a good way.
He shook repeatedly until they reached the hut. Inside is a small pallet, a small table and a sink that can be used for cooking. There is also a toilet in the hut.
May smiled as she looked around.
"It's cute, so maybe you don't go home because there's a hut like this," she mouthed out of amusement.
"Yes, it's a hassle. And then I'll just have lunch for a while. I want to work as continuously," June replied. He looked in the cabinet for clothes that May could wear. Only an oversized t-shirt and jumper pants owned by Nanay Isay that she also used when working on the farm. Fortunately, he is still in the cabinet.
"You can only wear this t-shirt and jumper, next time I'll just bring your clothes," he said and handed May the recovered clothes. He met its delicate gaze.
It just looks like there is endearment. His heart beats faster. So he just broke eye contact. He sneezed after he overcame the avoidance of gaze.
"Hope it fits," May said and went to the bathroom.
June came out of the hut first. His heart is rapidly beating. Is it brought on by fatigue and the heat of the weather? Or because of May's presence?
