Chapter 15 A Person to Blame

Lyn approaches the king's desk and takes some papers. Gwi's directions were followed, and she categorized the paper by name, color, and date. She's humming cheerfully because, while she can't do much, she can at least be of some assistance to Gwi.
But then she freezes when she notices a document with a specific name on the paper. Her hand is trembling, and she is out of breath. Her altered demeanor catches the king's attention. Lyn discovers a document detailing what is going on at Daekrahm Village. The documents tell her of all the crimes committed there, and her face is filled with horror.
"What's going on?" Gwi inquires, but Lyn remains frozen in place, unable to respond. The king removes the document from her grasp and leads her to a seat on the couch. He doesn't understand why the Daekrahm Village case has come as such a surprise to her, but for the time being, he wants to calm her down. So he pours a cup of chamomile tea and leaves the lady to enjoy it.
"Would you mind telling me what's the matter now?" the king inquires once Lyn appears calmer.
"The people of Daekhrahm Village is..." but Lyn burst into tears before she could finish her narrative. Her cries caused her voices to shatter.
Gwi merely stood there silently waiting for the female werewolf to finish her story since he also needs more information about the area.
"They are the people who slaughtered my packs! They are quite ruthless and show no pity to us. Even when we were trapped, they would slaughter and even burn a member of our pack."
"Their hateful gaze filled with murderous aura, I... They..." she is stuttered and unable to continue.
The sorrowful story from Lyn's past reminds the king of the catastrophe that once befell his family. He recalls how many spears and axes were stabbed into his parent's body while everyone around cheered in victory. He also recalls being cornered and hunted by people after rescuing a youngster from a fallen boulder and revealing his true nature for the first time in front of humans.
He had forgiven everyone who had done that awful thing to his family, but after hearing Lyn's story, the dread sensation that he had been attempting to bury deeply surfaced again. His face becomes tense as he recalls his recollections.
"Are you sure they're the ones who did that?" the king asks again. Lyn can only nod slowly since her shoulder is still quivering from crying.
   ----
"Recently, many villagers have vanished and been discovered horribly dead in the forest; they have been murdered." In front of the queen and king, a commander from a frontier line makes a report in private. He has been discreetly studying the case since the first time he discovered a murder case on the capital's boundary. He arrives to the palace today to deliver the findings of his research.
"What exactly is going on? Why has the number of murders increased so dramatically?" Siera inquires, perplexed. So many tragedies have befallen their land in a short period of time recently. She's not sure which one they have to deal with first.
"There are so many rumors going around, my queen, and some of them don't make sense. Thus, I analyze all of the corpses individually and discover the similarities from all of the victims" the commander pauses, unsure if he can continue to talk. He lowers his gaze and appears unwilling to make direct eye contact with the king, as he did unexpectedly when making a report.
"Then tell us," the monarch demands. The commander in chief takes a big breath.
"All of the scars found on the victim are from wild animal bites that resemble fangs and claws. However, the scars appear to be very particular, and I discovered a distinct venom from it. It's difficult for me to put my finger on it but people in the capital believe they were all attacked by the same beasts, werewolves.... " says a commander carefully in front of Siera and Gwi. After stating 'werewolf,' he casts a wary glance towards the king.
There was a long silence in the room for at least five seconds, with no one speaking. The suffocating air has become a major hardship for the three of them.
"Werewolf, you say? Are you attempting to frame an inhuman being that is rarely seen to commit crimes these days?" After a lengthy brief, the king is the first to speak. The commander and Siera sense that the king is displeased by the last sentence.
"Please accept my apologies, your Majesty. I would like to look at this further. To be honest, these kinds of opinions have spread across the capital. I was only concerned that it would cause unnecessary fear among our people or worse..."
"Would people blame and frame me as the perpetrator in these murder cases?" Gwi stops the commander from continuing and speaks in a harsh tone.
