Chapter 28 Please Sleep Here

Meanwhile, Lyn has heard from the court ladies that the king has returned to the palace. She is overjoyed and puts on her nicest gown to greet the king. She prepares herself alone in her chamber, and as she nears completion, she hears a tap on her door. Lyn rushes to the door and opens it, her eyes flashing with sparks as she discovers the king standing in front of her door.
"Welcome home, Gwi," she says with her best smile. But, in contrast to her bright smile, Gwi's look is gloomy.
"Can I come inside?" inquires the king. Lyn's smile widened in response to his question. She is perplexed as to why the king has come to her room when he is meant to be enjoying the feast with the warriors and the queen. But how could she say no when he has come to her aid? As a result, she flung open the door and welcomed the king inside.
Lyn's room isn't very large, but it is larger than any court lady's room. She also has the option of having a private room when the court ladies sleep in a group. Lyn is not treated like a royal guest with lavish amenities, but she is also not a court lady. She has never had her own room before, so having her own chamber inside the palace is really convenient for her.
Lyn excitedly takes a tea maker set and places it on the table. Gwi is visiting her room for the first time. Furthermore, based on the timing of his arrival, she is very certain that she is the first person he meets at the palace. She wishes to greet him warmly when he seeks her in this manner.
"Please take a seat," she says cheerfully to Gwi.
"I've learned how to make tea. When I get a shock attack before you give me a tea to ease my head, I was looking up your favorite tea and learning how to brew it. Do you enjoy camomile tea?" Gwi sits calmly on the couch while the female werewolf chatters merrily.
"It's Siera," the king announced calmly.
"Yes?" Gwi's usage of Siera's name in this context caused Lyn to pause in her work. She is perplexed as to why the king suddenly brings up the queen's name on it.
"Her favorite tea is camomile. I'm not really a tea fan, but because she occasionally looks for tea on one and every occasion, I've grown accustomed to it and prepare it at my office as well," he explains.
Lyn's smile was wiped away by the king's explanation. For some reason, she feels uneasy and disturbed. What a fool she was to talk about tea in front of Gwi when it was the queen's favorite.
"Would you like me to make you something else to drink?" Lyn inquires. Even though she tries to grin, it is evident from her tone that she is not as cheery as she was before.
"No, it doesn't mind. I've come to ask you a question," Gwi says directly. Lyn is looking at him with considerable interest. What would the king now ask her?
"Did you ever hear or know that your pack is still wandering around Daekhram Village?" he inquires.
Ah, Daekhram Village. She should be aware that he will be discussing it as he has just returned from that location. Lyn stiffened her body before responding to his query.
"I'm not certain. I've already informed you that I got separated from my pack and don't know if they're still alive. How come you ask me that?"
"I discovered why Daekhram people are so upset and distrustful of the kingdom. Someone sabotage their river and supply of water that flow from our tallest peak to the village as their source of life. They must believe that someone from the capital or the highest society is sabotaging the water supply during this extended drought. That is why they continue to assault nobles and desire to separate their town from the Hwon Kingdom," the monarch begins to express his theory.
"So how is it connecting with my pack?" inquires the lady, perplexed by the story's conclusion.
"I discovered werewolf venom on the water that flows to Daekhram, as well as traces of werewolf scent on the pilled rocks that block the river bank. We are all well aware that human strength alone would not be able to lift such massive rocks."
"Are you certain it was my pack that sabotaged the water source there?" In disbelief, ask Lyn.
"I'm not certain. But, based on what I've heard from you, it's possible that your pack, if they're still alive, will use that to exact revenge on the village."
"Impossible. We would never do something so heinous. Why are you being so unjust by blaming my pack in this manner? Why do you continue to protect the Daekhram people, even after I told you of their cruelty?"
"It's not like I blamed your pack for everything. It's just that there have been a lot of werewolf incidents lately. Even in the capital, there are numerous murders that point to a werewolf as the perpetrator. Perhaps you know something about it?" Gwi speaks his opinion, which keeps jolting him, but Lyn looks at him with a disbelieving gaze.
"Are you thinking that I'm the one behind the murder case?" she asks, her eyes welling up with tears.
Gwi is surprised because he did not expect Lyn to reply in this manner. He doesn't suspect Lyn because she was at the palace at the time of the crime. He simply wants to communicate his thoughts with her, but he has no idea that he will make her cry.
"Of course not. I'm sorry," he quickly apologized.
Lyn is unable to suppress her emotions and covers her face with her hands in order to cry. Her body trembles as she sobs louder. Gwi takes a deep breath and approaches. He gently caressed her shoulder in an attempt to stop her crying while apologizing.
"I apologize; I didn't mean to blame you for my inability. I should have done more research on Daekhram Village before making a hasty judgment that led to the deaths of innocent people there. They're just fed up with the circumstance that keeps forcing them into a corner. It's all my responsibility that so many innocent people died in such a way," Gwi says, lowering his gaze as he feels an ache in his heart.
Lyn carefully opens her hand, watching his expression. He appears devastated as he blames himself for everything. While she can't stop crying, the female werewolf reaches out his hand. She takes his hand in her own and squeezes it strongly.
"You are just too kind, Gwi," she says, her eyes welling up with tears as she stares at the monarch. Gwi sadly smiles at her remark.
"It's late; you must be tired from the long journey. Please sleep here to give your body some rest," Lyn said quietly. She doesn't have the heart to let the king return to his own room with sorrow in his eyes, so she invites him to spend the night with her.
Gwi is staring at her silently, trying to figure out what she wants.
