The First False Hope
Chapter 5 “First False Hope”
It was the morning of Tuesday. Given that it was the beginning of October, the temperature had not yet warmed up. It appeared that winter arrived earlier than usual. At this point in time, the area was covered in a pristine blanket of snow.
The International Airport was bustling with passengers, many of whom appeared to be there for personal reasons such as vacations, business trips, or other types of trips. A person could be seen holding his passport and getting ready to board an airline bound for Kenya at one of their gates.
"Bye, Ben..." Allen said as he hugged Benji. Benji shared the information about the offer with Allen two days ago. It was going to be a two-month trip to Kenya for him.
“Allen...” Benji murmured.
"It's OK. I'm gonna be OK. Just try your best!" Allen flashed a grin as he released his grip on Benji.
"Yeah, take care, Allen. Take care, Kaien. I'll miss you people a lot!" Benji waved.
Both Kaien and Allen responded by waving back. Allen watched as the form of his best friend suddenly disappeared from his line of sight. If he said he wasn't scared, it would be a lie. Two months without Benji seemed like too much time for him to go without him. In the event that he gets into a disagreement with his father, where will Allen sleep? Who should Allen have a conversation with? He was going to have nothing but time to himself for the next two months...
The voice of Kaien calling out to him, "Hey, let's go," snaps Allen out of his thoughts.
Allen gazed at Kaien."At least, there's him...," the speaker said.
Allen indicated with a nod that he agreed, and Kaien drove them there in his car. Allen has recently learned that Kaien is currently employed as a director at a single large corporation. He drives a really fine black Hyundai that he owns. That was enough to bring a smirk to Allen's face. He was taken back to the days when the thought of not owning an automobile filled him with dread. However, he opted against it due to the financial situation of his family.
"All right, so where exactly is your house? I'll drive you home..." Allen offered.
"No, really, it's OK. I'll just take the bus," Allen said.
"Why don't you? You can avoid squandering any money by going home with me, can you?" Kaien asked.
“But...” Kaien was not allowed in Allen's home since Allen did not want Kaien to see his father. However, he was sorry that he had to turn down Kaien's offer. "Alright then. Simply take me to the park that's close to my home. I'd want to go for a little walk and have a chat.
“Fine”

Allen moved stealthily through the park without speaking a word. He took a breath in and a breath out.
‘Allen! You can't carry on in this manner! You need to learn self-control because you can't spend the rest of your life depending on Benji!' Allen's thoughts erupted into a yell. Even though it was the last thing he wanted to do, he had no choice but to return home to face his father. He exhaled deeply and then began to make his way home in a very deliberate manner.
After opening the door to his home, Allen didn't waste any time and walked straight to his bedroom.
The sound of his father's voice repeated, "Allen..." Allen disregarded it and was ready to enter his bedroom when his father pulled the hand that was on the door handle.
“Let me go!” Allen yelled in an angry manner.
His father pleaded with him, “Listen to me when I'm talking, will you?!”
Allen hesitated. He chose to remain silent. He was well aware that his father would only communicate with him regarding financial matters.
His father spoke to him in a low voice. “I don't need money now, I just need you to listen to me...”
Allen was taken aback by it. This sort of conversation never took place between him and his father. His little heart never stopped longing for the love of his parents. Allen shifted his attention to focus on his father's face. Even though Allen's eyes were icy, there was still a glimmer of hope in them.
“What's the matter with it?” Allen asked.
“I am sorry that I have caused you to go through this, my son. And I would like to make amends for it tonight. Do you mind if we eat together? Together as a family?” His father, who was drinking heavily, made the suggestion.
Allen was hesitant. It felt like an incredibly long time ago since he last spent one-on-one time with his father. Allen made the decision to take a chance on this. He desired to make changes in his life.
“Ok... Where?” Allen asked.
“All you have to do is wait for me in the park.” Allen’s father ordered him. When he saw that Allen's face seemed suspicious of him, he added, “I need to go somewhere first.”

It was half past six thirty in the evening. Kaien does not have an appetite for food. He was unable to explain why, but the sight of food made him feel like he needed to vomit. His pulse quickens, giving the impression that something terrible was about to take place. And he detested it since his intuition was almost always correct. The sensation was exactly the same as it had been at the same moment when his younger brother had abandoned him. It was a sensation that defies description, an indescribable feeling.
“Allen...” Kaien murmured. He finally realized what he was just thinking about. “What was I thinking when I called his name?”
“Perhaps I should give him a call...” Kaien believed that if he knew where Allen was, he would have a better chance of feeling better. ‘Damn it! I don't have his contact information...’ Kaien regretted and wondered why he did not ask Allen his number before.
“Wait, since Allen's house isn't too far away from the park, maybe I can ask people who live around the park...” Before getting up and putting on his jacket, Kaien gave some thought to the situation. He could just went there by walking.
Rain began to fall, but Kaien had forgotten to carry an umbrella with him. At the same time, he lacked motivation to return to his apartment even if it was pouring. Allen was the only person he could think about at this moment. As his breathing became shorter and faster, he made haste to get to the park.

Allen was sobbing, and his tears just would not stop falling. The sorrow in his heart was so intense, all he wanted was to die and be done with it all. Because it had been raining, his clothing was soaked. Because he has been struggling so hard, his strength has been depleted. He was giving up on himself and his life.Download Novelah App
