Chaoter 14: Charlotte And Gray

The two siblings had let me stay on the hours at their cabin—I mean home. Gray left afterwards since he was busy with his leadership, and did not have time to entertain me. However, I was left in Charlotte's care so I don't know what to do.
I've never talked to any girl my age in my previous life, so this became brand new to me. She only gives me a close look before nodding, then again stares at me.
"Are you the demon that broke our curse?" She asked.
Wait, demon? That's really not how she should put it. "I believe you mean, monsters," I bluntly said. Correcting her question, I feel offended by the name, even Lucifer is the name of a fallen angel.
"What's the difference though?" I remember that Gray said about not being able to see outside this barrier reduced them to learning, now I know what he meant.
Many years ago, monsters were indeed known as demons—when we didn't yet fight our ancestors, the demons, and risked our lives to become an independent race of different species.
That is how we came to defeat the one who made us. "We kill our common blood relatives, we decline demons and offer them to Varilla, that's the difference, we coexist with humans and accept the treaty of humans but demons would not dare do the same."
She looked at me in confusion before looking down. "Mother and father were killed by two demons, but of course that's because mother tried to kill a little monster that triggers the demons on rampage. When I was a kid, I wondered why the life of a mere monster was so important to a demon's care."
A demon defends and fights for a little monster? I had searched his memory for knowledge and did not find that at all, the part of knowledge he had is only the one regardless of this whole world. That is why I have to ask Tartys because I needed to.
"That can't be," I uttered. Monsters life was no different to a human life in a demon's eye, how could monsters who couldn't even feel a single emotion defend us?
『Possible Answers. It may because of time that demons have slowly developed and might triggers abnormalities.』
Yes, it could also be possible that time changes them. However, it's a one time abnormality, it will eventually go back to where it should belong. There's no sign that demons can change, because it's been their routine to bring chaos upon this world.
"Sign of them, whether an abnormality or not, has never been recorded down to history."
She looked at me then her eyes shifted in disappointment. "I see, but they said, those demons were once monsters, the little child my parents tried to harm was their child, and it was only to protect their child that they became a demon."
Monster's... I wonder, not all monsters are kind, someone like my father hides the fact that he cares nor my brother's who grow their affection by showing hostility towards each other.
There are different kinds of monsters, like dragons, drake, golems, lizards, ogres and many more. However, not all monsters can express their emotions to each other and I believe so.
Looking at the dark side of the house, I felt the urge of talking but none left my throat. Monsters may feel emotions, we show them but expressing them to someone is harder than it looks. Ogres are known for their stubbornness, and they have a stubborn mind so even if we want to express something, our body will literally stop us from doing so.
I sighed and so I nodded. "Monsters aren't kind, you know, we are stubborn species known as barbarians."
Speaking of barbarians, the most common type of monster, goblin and wolves are known to be barbaric as well. However, unlike how history was told about goblins, they may steal treasure but not into pleasure. Goblins don't have the desire to do so, so reproduction on their part of the story was never the same.
"But you are nice, so I believed in that mere story," me? I looked at her and breathed out before looking away.
"It's just a coincidence," I muttered.
She then took her hand high against her forehead. "You're such a weird monster, and kind too..."
Then she shifted her gaze to me. "I am to do some house chores, will you, a kind guest, want to help me?" She asked.
I chuckled and laughed. "Humans are weird species too, but you are the weirdest."
She smiled at me and then she nodded. "I heard that a million times, so what do you say?"
"Of course, if I impose," we both laughed at each other's weirdness and then she smiled once more.
---
We both took our sweet time doing those chores, and I asked her age. Charlotte told me that she's barely 20 but time here stops her from remembering anything, so I asked her relevant questions about what she remembers of the world before this.
I was glad that she remembers even little. Few details about the kingdom they are part of, and the information of their daily traditions. Using Tartys, I looked over the map of the said kingdom they are part of and found what I was looking for.
A village that disappeared 350 years ago. The same year I was born, and yes I am 350 years old at the latest. I didn't know it could happen too, what a coincidence for her to stay the same age as I.
Lucifer eventually stopped growing, he and his brother stopped growing at the right age and only continues after they reach a certain year of their age. That is why my father is merely young at age, but he is sick inside.
However, Gray is younger than Charlotte by 1 year. He is also younger than me by the said time, of course that's because time here doesn't affect the growth of anyone around here.
So reproduction has never been allowed since. No one gets pregnant inside of the barrier, so does everyone here.
I took out the white sheets on the basket, waver it so that it would get those straight strands and then pulled it over to the string where I carefully put it the same thing Charlotte had told me.
"You're learning much faster," I heard a female voice, and it was so familiar. I knew from that start who owns it, and made me chuckle.
"Royal Prince don't do this stuff, but I wish I could enjoy this time," everything I feel is all came from me and from the previous owner of this body, so I could empathize with it.
"Such a life," she replied and approached me. "You can live here if you want, we don't actually mind having one monster stay with us."
"That would be nice, but I do not recommend it. Maybe I can do it once I'm done dealing with other much bigger problems in my life."
I was hoping to live a normal life but I already decided what to do with my own life. After seeing humans, I was determined to do what I can to achieve what I want.
Doing this may seize me from having a normal and peaceful life—or that's how I convinced myself. "What do you think?" I didn't even notice that Charlotte was talking to me.
"Pardon?" I asked.
She gave me a long stare before spitting and then smiled. "What the hell is up to you?" she asked.
"Eh, what?"
"There you go again," she flinched her fingers and tapped my shoulders. "Always in the distance... I bet something is wrong..."
"There is a dream I want to fulfill but I don't know how," I muttered. She then looked at me, shifting her head then she once again clapped her hands.
"You should do it regardlessly."
Yeah, she's right. I have to gain allies, and I want to accomplish this dream even if I have to defeat all odds. If there is a way to defeat those obstacles, I will have to choose either way. Stiff smile got into me, then I looked away and nodded.
"I was talking about going outside even for once," she said and looked at her fingers. It must have been hard stranded in this place, she seemed adventurous enough to go on her own journey. I smiled and laughed.
"You can always do that."
"Really!?" she paused and the excitement in her eyes drooped. "I can't, we are cursed, the barrier is yet gone and we are in the enemy's territory."
She's right, I may have the authority of the barrier but no one can't leave this place—not until I defeat those cruel monsters enough to harm them. I didn't want to do it, but I didn't have a choice.
"You just forgot who you're talking to didn't you?" I smirked and looked up.
"W-what do you mean?" Then she uttered. I was left smiling before pointing up to the sky. I focused my energies that rushed through my veins.
There is a light surrounding my finger tips. I remain still before I release the energy I had kept from bursting. The light became particles and flew out of the shades made of sky.
It rained upon the burst of the barrier. Charlotte's reaction made me start. She then looks at me and her eyes widen. "This is the first time we have had rain, it's... Cold and cloudy..."
