We could set ourselves for what will happen but surprisingly, we were welcome open hearted by people of the village. So even after knowing that grandma is a monster, they didn't think much as the first time they meet me. Many people had crowded us and we simply follows them laughing and chatting. The next thing I knew, the whole village throw a huge festival. "Aren't we short of supply?" I ask Gray in dismay. He may not look special but his the chief. "Thanks to your support this couple of days, we didn't felt like our supply was in shortage, instead we like to celebrate this short happiness we had by allowing ourselves to be part of your coexistence and I honestly didn't think that your grandma is more kinder than you." I felt offended, and when did that little prick, called my grandma became an angel to their eyes? I stiffly smile and laugh his insults because I knew he meant it in a good way. "You sound like you hate me." Then he look at me before smirking. "Am I?" I knew it! This bastard really meant on insulting me. No, why does he hate me? "I did nothing wrong to receive this kind of behavior," I stood up and said. Gray became stiff, and he suddenly lost it when he look at me with remorse. I felt Gray's anger running down to his eyes, and even I was unable to move with my body being controlled. "You did nothing?" He ask, and then he pulled his hands grabbing my neck. "You of all people, I trusted you! Yet, what did you do to my sister!?" My eyes widen. Charlotte? Is he talking about Charlotte? I remember. It was the day that made me smile, the day I showed rain and the day I... "It was an accident!" I tried to defend. "Accident! You made her cry!" I didn't do it purposely. I was embarrassed and I can't pursue her even if I may have fallen. Monsters don't love, we all know that but the aching won't stop hurting me. I know, I shouldn't have done it but what can I do? I left to protect her from me. "I'm sorry..." That was the only thing that came to my mouth. I was sorry, even though I knew it would hurt, I left in fear. It was a love at first sight? No, it was just a unrequited love, a one sided love and an illusion I had in mind. I shook my head and look down, holding Gray on his fist. "I was a coward, because I've never felt this before, and so I'm sorry if what I did hurt her—" Gray pulled his hand and smirk. "Why not tell her that yourself!" He yelled before looking at somewhere not from my direction but behind me. As I didn't know what his talking about, I turn around and saw her. There Charlotte stood, she was standing and I was here unable to move. Why is she? Oh, right, it's festival so I'm sure she'll come. It should be a happy day, but why does her face look swollen and pale? Is she fine? I looked away. "I'm—" instead of letting me finish what I was saying, I receive a loud slap on the face and made me look in front with my eyes widen. "Ditching a girl, when you made her fall, what kind of shameless man are you!?" I feel the pain in my face, as cold as her hand can be. It was a one time meeting but that one time meeting changes all, and that's because a devil like me fell for a girl, of a human race. What could have possibly happen? It was my mistake. I did not know how to feel, that's why I left knowing what I did. I thought it was a simple friendship, and I thought it meant nothing but now I know. I deserve that slap. I smile and chuckled. "I've never been slapped by a girl," I held my cheeks and laughed. "We are too different, that's why I left, human and monsters bring taboo but if you are willing to break that taboo with me then let it be disaster that falls into this world." I offers my hand and look at her. The swollen face she had suddenly stiffened, yet before I knew, it changed calmly as if her mood decreased. "I don't care! The fact that you made me cry, you're still shameless, bastard!" I laughed and nodded. She didn't give her hands so I just did what jerk would do. Grabbed her hand, pushing her towards and because she resisted and her strength is not match with me, I had to lock her up with my hands and embraced her closer to me. She ask for it, then I won't think of bringing disaster. However, as like everyone, if I want to bring coexistence, I have to love a human. I don't care what it brings, but I will break that legend and prove to this world that I can unite both humans and monsters to fight against demons and save this world. Give peace, and love everyone. She grasped and touched me at the chest. "Stupid," she murmurs. "Yeah, I know." --- The festival continues even with me and Charlotte attracting attention. I was watching the whole festival from the top table, where grandma and I sat. My eyes didn't left Charlotte, even with her being her usual "happy" moments, and dancing around happily, I didn't move a flinched. "Desires can be troublesome," I look beside and saw grandma's grin. Now here I am wondering why she hadn't said anything, but I see that she doesn't speak about it unless she is carefully certain that she can. I smirked. "Monsters—" I stopped and looked. "Ogre's are born aggressive, you know that, even if we want to leave behind what we seek, we won't be able to survive, that is why we are cursed." There is that legend amongst our people, that one day, when a child of taboo was born, they will give destruction to this world. A disaster that will flourish this world, and filled it with evil, but that's just silly legend, I believe it's not the truth. The fear of being with unknown species—made the legend, and everyone was the fool to believe it. "You just never try, even if we are monsters, we are no different to a human being—" she paused and looked in front where I was staring at Charlotte's beautiful structure as she was dancing with the people. "We have emotions, body, mind, thoughts and lounging." I agree, that is why monsters was able to break free from the clutches of demons and become independent. Because unlike demons, made to self-destruct, humans can think, feel and resist. Just like how human resist fate, monsters did the same. We just want to survive in this world, we only want to live peacefully in this world. I nodded and smile. "Can monster like human?" I asked bluntly. She smirked, giving me an off chilling feeling. "You already answered your own question. You don't need an answer that was solved by your own prescription, what you need to know is how should you protect that feeling you have gained. So you don't need to worry about breaking a taboo, love is one of the powerful weapon mankind can ever see." She's right, what am I afraid off? Breaking taboo? Or loving someone for the very first time. I didn't knew, this could be painful and it hurts as much as bullets can hurt. Although, I doubt my own feelings, I never hesitated that I love her—a human girl. Charlotte dancing on the plaza suddenly looked me and she wave. I smile and wave back, she must have gotten her energy back, because I made her drink a anti-fatigue medicine that I made currently. She took the medicine and it wasn't that long before it works. That anti-fatigue medicine helps improve ones sleepiness and sickness. It can make them worked up for another 6 hours before the medicine would worn out. The medicine helps her stay awake, because she didn't want to sleep so I was worried. Now, she looks so healthy despite having another 2 hours before she goes back to being a zombie. I need to make her sleep or rest, she doesn't feel good earlier as well, I'm worried that her health will fall. "That human girl—Charlotte, is it? Take her home, she might have taken a doze of medicine but it will worsen her situation if not treated." I looked at grandma and then fell silence. I never tested the quality of the medicine and I couldn't remove the after effect of it either. "You're right, I should force her to rest." She nodded and I marched up. Going through the crowds of human dancing and cheering, I made sure to be polite till I reach Charlotte's place. She was at the center, and was busy talking to her friends—probably. "Oh, ah, can I borrow her for a moment?" I politely ask the ladies in front. They seem hostile at first but then they nodded. "Eh, what do you need me for?" Charlotte ask. I grabbed her hand and pull her as we pace out of the crowds. "Listen, Charlotte, you haven't rested, didn't you? The pills may helped you endure tiredness, but I won't want you to feel the after effect of the drugs. So please, listen to me and let's get you home, okey?" I said explaining my point. She forcefully pouted. "It's not nice to leave a party when it's not yet done." I shook my head and touched them. "I won't like seeing Gray hunting me down just because I neglected his sister, now come Charlotte before I decide to lift you up instead." She smile before nodding. "Jeez, fine, it's not like you'll suddenly leave right?" "Yeah, don't worry, I won't."
