Chapter 21: Desire

Reyes was busy trying to relish some things, while Charlotte and I enters the carriage prepared by the Royal Family. I nearly forgotten that Charlotte is a human, and her scent can sniff those deadly beast back to life, so I have asked her to use a bath of salt water to make her scent disappear.
It did work, our servants didn't even realize that a human was walking on it's door step.
I shifted my gaze and close the carriage door before I walked out. Reyes was at the edge, his doing his job—no to help me, rather than helping, his busy preparing some events that will happen during my disappearance.
I give a fake cough. "Hey! We are about to leave, so are you okey here?" I interfered. Puting my hands on his shoulder, thought he only give me a cold glare.
"Your Royal Highness," he tilted before he grabbed my hand pulled it down. "Yes, as you can see, you are travelling without anything but your clothes which you had taken somewhere in your body, my only job right now is to make sure you really die on the way."
I fake a smile and looked away. His probably joking, but hell I don't feel his jokes at all. I carefully look at him before shifting back, his looking at me with a dead glare, I almost choked from his serious face.
This guy ain't gonna let me off that easily. I doubt he even care. "You say funny stuff," then I took of my hands and looked at them. "Words can be deadly, Reyes, I am not alone in this trip, so don't do anything hustle, I might come back with an hundred arrows hunting your feet."
Every monster have there dark side, even the one amongst the innocent. Reyes give me a long silence before he step forward to turn back.
"You should get going, it will be a long journey, your royal majesty."
Did I mistakenly see him smirked and frown? Reyes can do things like that but sometimes there are things he'll do it seriously. Things I am aware of, his not something I can messed with—since his a different breed.
I fake a cough and smile. "See you next time then," I carefully said as I give him a look before I turn around.
His staring at me and I can feel it. That's a deadly glare, it's starting to drown me until the last of me step. His still doing that look of remorse overflowing each movement I make.
Reyes is a different breed but sometimes he misunderstood who he wants to be enemies with. His glare is one of those things, one look and his enemies will fall in fear of their lives, like a curse that will hunt them till their next journey.
I am different from them. I won't fall from his antics because I am his master, and he knew what I can and cannot do.
Long after I knew, I was at the front door of the carriage where I meet her eyes. The most beautiful eyes I have ever seen, it's looking at me like a mirror and I was in front like a puppet looking at her outside the box.
The look on her face turned into worried. I was afraid she'll feel comfortable, but it seem she's doing fine. She looked at me and give a long curious look of 'are you okey?' so I nodded and smile as I opened the door.
Charlotte's eyes is precious. It's shinning with hope and kindness of all things I never seen, before and even at my present life. The eyes that gives and shows everything she needed to see.
Back then, I have seen pitiful smile from my parents thought they treat me well. I didn't feel like they actually fully understand me, even at my first life as I have never felt love my whole life.
Even if I am ignorant of love. I will never regret the day I choose to be with her, and spent that days to seclusion if it meant to protect her. She's like a petal that freely rises from the south to north, dance like a muse, and fly like a wind. Her spirit can't be compared to mine, but that doesn't mean I'll give up that feelings I only felt once.
"Are you alright?" Suddenly as I was left with my own thoughts. I didn't realize that I was looking at Charlotte with a serious glare. She opens the door just to talk to me, so I fake a smile and nodded.
"How can I not be alright? You worry to much," I said faking a smile.
I heard that not all love at first sight is a good thing. It doesn't mean that first love is a forever affection, rather it can also grow distance to nothing. I always thought it was a vary story of old fools trying to make up for their lost feelings.
However, I cannot assure that this love will end forever as well. Maybe if I left alone, we will grow distance and eventually will see each other as nothing. First love doesn't mean that it can end as a last love, rather it may change over time.
We will head towards the hell's doorstep of a labyrinth. It might not be a good end for both of us but she was willing to do it for me. A man like me? Can I deserve such love coming from a human?
I don't know. What I knew is simple, I will protect her, even if my life was on the line. If this is really a love at first sight and it meant that forever is far distance, then I will keep on chasing it with her until I no longer breath.
That, I can only do for her...
"You hide many things but a woman's instinct can't be misunderstand," I was surprised as I heard Charlotte's deep voice. She's looking at me with her pierce through bland eyes, and I only looked at her.
She smile and nodded. "Is this because I came? I know well of the danger but I was afraid in the days I can't see you, I may fell out of love. It scares me, and I don't want such thing to experience once more."
Her smile suddenly disappeared. I couldn't helped but to look, her face had stiffened, and I see the turn of her face as she looked at me.
Did she say once more?
I looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean 'once more'?"
"Ah," she covers her lips in surprise but ended up removing it. I don't seem to understand her, she's quite the confusing one to understand. Although I do fell for her, I know almost only few about her.
We live together in the hidden land, we tried to learn more about ourselves but some of them can't be seen. I know her very kind and gentle smile, but Charlotte also has her dark sides.
One of them is simple manipulating things. Thought, I didn't mind it. "I'm sorry," when I turn to look, her eyes were on her hands as she's hitting her fingers with her nails. "I once got entangle myself with a wrong guy. However, that is when before we get ourselves stuck in a barrier and were transported in this land. I was little back then, maybe 6 years old or something. Yet I fell for a childhood friend, and got betrayed afterwards."
She never really talk about her past that much. "I had lost the sense of emotions since then, I was afraid of loving someone..."
I see... I feel the same way, thought Tartys had been keeping an eye of me. I still wanted to have a freedom to think and feel.
"We aren't much different, I supposed. We beast don't show our emotions that much, my father as well and my grandmother. I know it's selfish of me, but I still hope you'd stayed, because I know myself I can't protect you. I am too weak, and I have long forgotten how to love so dearly." I carefully took her hand and bend so I could reach her.
"Why did you choose me?" I asked and she looked at me.
"I did not know the reason myself, and you were a monster. Humans are afraid of you, and I thought maybe I can be there to see through your future," she then smile. "You were a one simple minded beast at that time, and I never thought you'll react like any humans do. Beside, I find you adorable and honest."
I shake my head and nodded. "I see, you thought of them then?"
She nodded. "After the rain incident, I couldn't get over the fact that you look more like a human than what you claim to be."
"Is......that so?"
And she nodded as I smile.
I am a human before death.
