Chapter 26

"Please?" She lowered her voice to a gentle murmur as she leaned towards the table, her eyes pleading for their attention. She didn't want to appear pushy or entitled, so she carefully chose her words and spoke softly, hoping to convey her request with sincerity and humility.
Damian's heart sank as his father's lips curled into a sinister grin. His father's chuckle echoed through the room, sending shivers down Damian's spine. He knew that this was not a good sign. His father's laughter was always a prelude to something terrible. Damian braced himself for what was to come, his mind racing with fear and uncertainty.
Damian's eyebrows furrowed, and his lips pressed into a thin line, his irritation becoming increasingly apparent with each passing moment. She glared at him, her eyes flashing with anger.
"How dare you!" she spat, her voice low and dangerous.
He could feel the heat emanating from her body, and her fists clenched at her sides. He knew he had crossed a line but couldn't help himself. He had to push her buttons, to see how far he could go. But now, as he looked into her furious eyes, he realized he had gone too far. He took a step back, his hands raised in surrender.
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to upset you." But it was too late. The damage was done. She turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, leaving him alone with his regret. The silence of the dining room was shattered by the sudden boom of Damian's father's voice, sending shivers down my spine.
As I gazed upon Damian, I couldn't help but notice the emptiness in his eyes. He stood there motionless, fixated on his father who was standing just a few feet away.
It was as if time had frozen, and the world around us had ceased to exist. All that remained was the haunting stillness that enveloped us. "I'm sorry," I muttered worriedly as I put my knife and fork down.
Kai's eyes blazed with determination as he stood before his family, his voice echoing through the silent house.
"That's it," he declared, his tone brooking no argument.
"She's going to the basement." I felt a sudden rush of adrenaline as Kai rose from his seat and strode towards me. My heart raced as I watched him draw closer, his eyes fixed on mine. Terror gripped me as I whimpered, "No, please." The memories of my father flooded my mind, causing me to tremble with fear.
As I descended the creaky stairs leading to the basement, a sense of dread washed over me. I knew all too well what awaited me down there. The sound of my own footsteps echoed through the dimly lit space, creating an eerie atmosphere. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I reached the bottom step.
The basement was a place of terror, a place where beatings were a common occurrence. The memories of the pain and fear I had experienced in that room flooded back to me, making me shudder.
I tried to steel myself for what was to come, but my nerves were frayed and my hands were shaking. I took a deep breath and stepped forward, bracing myself for the worst. The air was thick with tension as I waited for the inevitable.
The sound of footsteps approaching made my heart skip a beat. I closed my eyes and braced myself for the impact, knowing that the beating was about to begin. As Kai's fingers closed around my wrist, his attention was suddenly diverted by Damian rising to his feet.
As Damian drew closer, his footsteps grew heavier and more pronounced. She trembled at the thought of facing him again.
The memory of his piercing gaze and rough hands made her shudder. But as she weighed her options, a chilling realization dawned on her. She would rather endure the wrath of his father than face him once more.
The mere thought of his cold, calculating stare sent shivers down her spine. She knew that his father's punishment would be severe, but it was a small price to pay for avoiding the terror that awaited her in his son's presence.
My heart raced as I watched him closely, unsure of what he was going to do next. Suddenly, he surprised me with an unexpected action. My mind struggled to process what had just happened, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of confusion and intrigue.
It was as if a whole new side of him had been revealed, and I couldn't wait to see what else he was capable of. With a sudden burst of courage, Damian lunged forward and grabbed his father's wrist, his fingers tightening around the older man's skin.
His father's grip on you loosened, and you stumbled backward, gasping for air. The two men locked eyes, a silent battle of wills passing between them. For a moment, it seemed as though neither of them would back down, but then Damian's father relented, his hand falling limply to his side.
Damian stood tall, his chest heaving with the effort of his victory. He could feel the weight of his father's gaze as it bore into him, causing his heart to race.
The intensity of the moment was palpable, and he could sense that something important was about to happen. His father's eyes widened, and he knew that whatever was coming next would change everything. Damian's eyes blazed with anger as he confronted his father.
"She is going to be my wife," he declared through gritted teeth. "If you lay a finger on her again, I won't hesitate to burn you alive." His father recoiled at the intensity of Damian's words, but Damian stood firm, his love for his future wife giving him the strength to stand up to his own flesh and blood.
Kai winced as Damian's grip tightened around his wrist, crushing it with a force that made him groan in pain.
Damian leaned in close to his father, his voice barely above a whisper. "You think you're the devil," he said, his eyes blazing with intensity, "but I'm one with the nickname." His father's expression remained stoic, but Damian could sense the tension in the air. He knew his words had hit their mark.
Damian's voice was soft as he turned to me, his eyes meeting mine. "I'll take you to see them tomorrow after school," he said.
The words hung in the air between us, and I felt a flutter of excitement in my chest. I couldn't wait to see what he had in store for me. My heart was pounding as I hastily nodded in agreement before turning on my heel and dashing out of the room.
My feet pounded against the hardwood floor as I raced up the stairs, taking them two at a time. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, my mind racing with thoughts of what I needed to do next.
She couldn't shake off the constant fear that lingered within her. The fear of being abused again. It was a fear that had been etched deep within her soul, a fear that had been born out of the traumatic experiences of her past. And now, with his father in the picture, that fear had only intensified.
He seemed to be a lot like her own father, the one who had caused her so much pain and suffering. She couldn't help but wonder if history was about to repeat itself.
The thought was suffocating, and she felt as though she was drowning in a sea of uncertainty.
