Chapter 12 THE ORDER OF THE VEILD

Pandy's computer beeped, signaling the arrival of the footage. She quickly opened the file and watched as the grainy image of a woman appeared on screen. The woman was tall, with long, dark hair and a hoodie that obscured her face. Pandy's eyes narrowed as she watched the woman move around her house, her movements swift and deliberate.
"Who are you?" Pandy whispered, her mind racing with possibilities.
She rewound the footage and paused on a clear shot of the woman's hand, where a distinctive tattoo was visible.
"Livvy," Pandy said, calling her colleague back. "I need you to enhance the tattoo on the woman's hand."
"On it," Livvy replied.
Pandy waited, her eyes fixed on the tattoo. It looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
Livvy called back, her voice excited. "Pandy, I enhanced the tattoo. It's a symbol from an ancient cult."
Pandy's heart skipped a beat. "Which cult?"
"The Order of the Veiled," Livvy replied. "They existed some years back but not anymore. They were known for their brutality and secrecy then."
Pandy's eyes widened. "Then...is this a new group or what?"
" I guess so~"Livvy mumbled. Holy Murderer was starting to make sense.
"Get me everything you can on the Order," Pandy ordered. "I need to know who this woman is and what she wants."
Livvy’s fingers flew over the keyboard, her screen filled with lines of text and images. “Okay, I’m pulling up everything I can find on the Order of the Veiled,” she said. “This might take a few minutes.”
Pandy nodded, her mind still reeling from the revelation. She couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the tip of the iceberg. The Order of the Veiled was notorious for its clandestine operations and ruthless methods. If this woman was involved with them, it meant trouble.
As she waited, Pandy’s thoughts drifted to the Holy Murderer case. The pieces were starting to fit together, but there were still so many unanswered questions. Who was this woman? What was her connection to the Order? And most importantly, what did she want?
Livvy’s voice broke through her thoughts. “I’ve got something,” she said. “The Order of the Veiled has been linked to several high-profile assassinations and disappearances over the years. They operate in the shadows, leaving very little trace of their activities.”
Pandy leaned in closer to the screen. “Do we have any names? Any known members?”
Livvy shook her head. “Not many. They’re very good at covering their tracks. But there are a few names that keep popping up in connection with their activities. One of them is a woman named Selene. She’s rumored to be one of their top operatives.”
Pandy’s eyes narrowed. “Selene,” she repeated. “Do we have a picture of her?”
Livvy clicked a few more keys, and a grainy image appeared on the screen. It was the same woman from the footage, her face still obscured by the hoodie, but the tattoo on her hand was clearly visible.
“That’s her,” Pandy said, her voice barely above a whisper. “We need to find her, Livvy. Before she strikes again.”
Livvy nodded. “I’ll keep digging. There has to be something we can use to track her down.”
" Sure...l'll be waiting." Pandy said as the line went dead. She had another new profile to tag to her board.
Quickly, she jotted down the name on a paper and pinned it on her board. Her mind was already racing with possibilities. The Order of the Veiled was a dangerous enemy, but she was determined to uncover their secrets and bring them to justice. The hunt for Selene had just begun.
She was already invested in her new discovery~ flipping through files and documents, marking out a few connections. But sooner than later, she had drifted off to sleep without notice.
The next morning, she was jolted awake by the sound of her phone ringing. Groggily, she reached for it and saw Livvy’s name flashing on the screen.
“Livvy, what’s up?” Pandy asked, rubbing her eyes.
“We’ve got a new body,” Livvy said, her voice tense. “It’s not linked to the Order of the Veiled, but it’s definitely a homicide. You need to get down here.”
Pandy’s heart sank. Another murder meant another puzzle to solve. She quickly got dressed and headed to the crime scene.

THE CRIME SCENE
Pandy arrived at the scene, a small alleyway in a quiet neighborhood. The area was cordoned off with police tape, and officers were already combing through the evidence. She spotted Do-Hyun and Detective Kim, a seasoned investigator, standing near the body.
“Morning, Kim, morning...Do Hyun” Pandy greeted them.
“Morning, Pandy,” Kim replied, his expression grim. “This one’s a mess. Victim’s a young woman, early twenties. No ID on her, but it looks like she was attacked with a knife.”
Pandy knelt down to examine the body. The woman had multiple stab wounds, and her face was bruised. There was something familiar about the brutality of the attack, but Pandy couldn’t quite place it.
“Any witnesses?” Pandy asked.
“None so far,” Hyun said. “We’re canvassing the area, but it’s pretty quiet around here at night.”
Pandy nodded, her mind already working through the possibilities. “Let’s get her back to the lab. Maybe we’ll find something that can help us identify her.”
Back at the lab, Pandy and Livvy worked together to process the evidence. Livvy was running tests on the victim’s clothing and belongings, while Pandy examined the wounds more closely.
“There’s something off about this,” Pandy said, frowning. “The wounds are deep, but they’re not consistent with a typical knife attack. It’s almost like the killer was trying to send a message.”
Livvy looked up from her computer. “I’ve got something. There was a piece of paper in the victim’s pocket. It’s got a symbol on it.”
Pandy took the paper and examined the symbol. It was a simple design, but it sent a chill down her spine. “This looks like a warning. We need to find out what it means.”

The Interrogation Room
Later that day, Pandy, Do Hyun and Kim sat across from a nervous-looking man in the interrogation room. He had been seen near the crime scene the night before and was now their prime suspect.
“Tell us what you know,” Kim said, his voice calm but firm.
The man shifted in his seat, his eyes darting around the room. “I didn’t do anything. I was just walking home from work.”
Pandy leaned forward, her gaze intense. “We found a symbol on the victim. Do you know what it means?”
The man’s face paled. “I… I don’t know. I’ve never seen it before.”
Pandy exchanged a glance with Kim. They were getting nowhere, but she had a feeling this man knew more than he was letting on.
That evening, Pandy sat in her office, staring at the symbol on the piece of paper. She had seen it before, but where? Suddenly, it clicked. She grabbed her phone and called Livvy.
“Livvy, I know where I’ve seen this symbol before,” Pandy said, her voice urgent. “It’s from an old case. A series of murders that happened years ago. The killer was never caught.”
Livvy’s voice was equally excited. “I’ll pull up the files. Maybe there’s a connection we missed.”
Pandy’s heart raced. The pieces were starting to come together, but there was still so much they didn’t know. She was determined to find the truth, no matter what it took.
The hunt for the new killer had begun, and Pandy knew she was in for a long and dangerous journey. But she was ready. She had to be.
