Chapter 5 MISSEN PIECE

" I think we should go back to HAVEN and check the CCTV footage again...maybe we might be missing something.” a male voice called from the entrance which drew everyone's attention to it.
“ What makes you think so, Pennel~,” Pandy asked when he neared them. Pennel intensely scanned the screen and finally pointed.
“ Pause~” He exclaimed, zooming in a little. “ It seems this clip had been messed with,” He said which drew in everyone's cat-eye scanning. “ ... a part seems edited out ~ that might be our missen piece needed to solve this puzzle. ”
“ We should clock in tomorrow,  then,” Livvy suggested to which everyone gave a nod.
“ What of the previous case?” Pandy asked, returning to her seat. “ Have you found any new pieces?”
“ We still find pieces tracing to “ THE HOLY MURDERER ” Pennel started which brought everyone's interest back to the scary case.
“ Isn't it just a copycat?” Livvy asked, looking tense as she shared glances from Pennel to Pandy, who seemed focused in thoughts. Without any doubt, she knew Pandy will hop onto this case.
“ No, Livvy~ take a look at this..." He showed, pinning a piece on the board of the earlier case. It was a photo of something scripted in blood– AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.
Do-Hyun instinctively shot to his feet on noticing it~ his eyes ignited with a spark of hope flashing through his heart. This is what he had worked so hard for his whole life.
“ It was found at the back of the victim this morning.” Pennel briefly added.
“ What's the name of this victim?” Do-Hyun queried, trying to analyze how the case might be linked to his family's. “ Maybe the very first case, the 2005 case, and this got a common backstory.” He added and Pandy noticed his keen interest in the case.
“ We can finally figure out his reasons and targets of murders.” He pointed and Livvy decided to do the briefing.
“ Vicent P. Noah, similar to the previous, the man was the main target, and a whole family was slaughtered. No survival ~” She highlighted. “... for the reason, ” She sighed. “ We're yet to discover”
“ We're still working to gather as much information as we can~” Delia added. He seemed disappointed but getting on the case will help– he deliberated for a moment.
“ I'll love to work on this case with you.” He opted but Livvy instantly objected.
“ I believe you should focus on your first case rather~ Pandy is your partner, you can't just leave her hanging like that. ”
His gaze instinctively fell on Pandy and back to Livvy, that's when he nodded. He noticed in her eyes, she's got something under her sleeve and if his cards are well played, Pandy would rather be of much help to him than Pennel. She seems to have been working on the previous case long enough considering what he'd seen in a locker.
Knowing her family was the first victim of the 2005 case, he knew she'll never back off without investigating as well. It seems that was her main motive for joining the crime investigation unit.
“ I guess we're done here~ let's get back to this early tomorrow morning,” Pandy said as she got her stuff together. “ I'll be heading home from here.”
“ Can I drive you?” His question threw everyone into a stare. Pandy was as well surprised at his sudden offer– skeptically, she nodded with a yes. She didn't want to be rude.
“ See you guys later then~ ” She waved and tossed over to the exit.
“ Sure, I'll let you know if there's anything, and don't go looking for trouble ” Livvy shouted at her back to which she nodded, waving over her shoulders as she trod off.
“ I know ~ I know, stop nagging ” She busted amidst a chuckle which made the rest laugh. Livvy watched her back disappear from the exit and sighed.
“ Please, do take care of her~ she can be quite stubborn.” She stressed. “ Do not change routes even if she requests one... I don't want her getting mixed with that case again.”
Do-Hyun just smiled with a nod and raced after her. The door opened onto darkness with the moon and lights illuminating, making the darkness less dense. He noticed Pandy already seated in the seat beside the driver's~ her eyes shut close and her head relaxed on the head of the seat.
Just when he settled in, she glanced for a second and closed up again. Soon, their car was zooming out of sight.

After making sure the two younger ones were asleep, Lousia trod off to Phinel's room where she found her still awake~ she was in bed, her comforter draped from her middle down to her legs which had been swallowed beneath. Her face was shaded with a novel she was reading.
“ Hey...honey, still awake?” She said, almost in a whisper as she approached her. Phinel just nodded with a yes~ her eyes remained fixed on her mother's face as she settled next to her.
“ Waiting for daddy~ he promised to read me a bedtime story.” She said with a faint smile. Louisa's gaze was instinctively pulled into distress. On noticing her worried eyes, she tossed the book aside and straightened up.
“ Is everything okay, mum?” She stared expectantly. “ What did the officers say?... Is Dad in trouble ?” The question just found Lousia speechless.
She couldn't bring herself to break the heart-wrenching story to their daughter– that the most loving person she cherished was no more. This was too much for her, it will be like killing off her daughter.
“ Are you okay, mum?~you're crying...” She asked, concerned. Louisa hid her face away and dabbed it dry.
“ No, honey...I think I got something in my eyes.” She feigned a smile. Phinel knew she was lying but since she wasn't ready to say, she opted to just let sleeping dogs lay.
“ Sorry honey but Dad just called~” She began as Phinel listened.“ He couldn't make it ~ had to tend to an emergency so why don't you let me do the reading for tonight?” She quickly nodded to it and Lousia smiled.
After about 20 minutes through the reading, she noticed her doze off, snoring away the night. Louisa adjusted her properly on the bed and tugged her in. Sure everything was okay with her, she tapped the lamp off and exited the room. She felt a tinge of nervousness and uneasiness which made it too difficult to sleep.
