CHAPTER XXVIII. 3: NO

THIRD PERSON'S POINT OF VIEW
"Mackenzie, wake up!" Jonah shouted to awaken Mackenzie. The warden is already waiting.
"Mackenzie, Warden Peña is already waiting!"
Mackenzie woke up with a heavy head. She opened her eyes but she could barely see as her eyelids were heavy, too.
"Run, Mackenzie! They are already waiting for you. They might get mad." Jonah hissed and so, Mackenzie immediately stood up.
She hurriedly ran out as Jonah pushed her. She ran towards the warden as she saw him. As soon as she remembered what was happening, she broke down. Her end was near.
Mackenzie was puzzled as she looked at the outside. It was still dark. Is she dreaming? If she is, what real things happened? Maybe not, because it was seen that as soon as they reached their destination, a life was taken away.
A brave lady chose to die with the most heavy punishment. The warden told himself.
She faced the end of her life.
His phone rang and it was the police station, "Warden, Jonah Carlos escaped from the prison."
-
"Mama, I'm just wondering. Why do you love me so much?" a boy asked her mother.
"Because you are my son!" her mother exclaimed and pinched his cheeks.
"Mama, someone told me that… it's...it's so risky to be pregnant at your age. Thank you for risking your life for me, mama. I love you so much!" he said and clinged on his mother's legs.
"That's noth—" she stopped as she bumped into someone.
Her heart stopped beating for a while. That pair of eyes hold a deep resemblance to her child's.
She should tell him the truth, right?
That pair of eyes were screaming sadness and grief. Seems he lost things which were important for him. The old lady should know. She has witnessed it.
She wanted to tell him. She already moved her feet towards him but her promise to a young lady made her move back.
"Do you know that guy, mama?" the cute boy asked but she shook her head.
He doesn't deserve to be lied to but she should keep her promise until her last breath.
"He's just familiar. Don't worry about it, baby. I just thought he's one of the actors on our favorite show.", she lied.
"Who? Jeffrion?! Let's follow him, mama! I want to see him too. I didn't see his face!" he insisted. He pulled her mother's hands and ran but she was too heavy for him to carry.
"We're going to a special place, Simoun." she stated and so, the cute three-year-old boy pouted.
"But I wanted to see him!"
"No more buts, honey. I'll be mad at you. Like this." she frowned and knitted her eyebrows.
"Sorry, mama. I won't do that again. I became so bad, mama. I'm sorry." he said and so, her mother kneeled down.
"Aww, baby. I'm sorry, too. You know, I'll just buy you an ice cream! What flavor do you want?" she queried and the cute boy shouted in glee.
"Mama, you know what, I am so proud that you are my mother. I have a brave and kind and beautiful and patient and loving mother! I'm blessed that I have you, mama. I don't know what to do without you." His eyes glittered as he was saying that. It was from his heart. Just like they say, kids don't lie.
He's just 3 years old and here he is, thinking far from a 3 year old kid. Her mother couldn't keep her joy and she suddenly smiled and faced her son while walking with him.
"That's too much compliment, baby. Haha. Mama loves you too. Mama loves you so much!" she exclaimed and giggled as she thought about what the kid told her.
She's not her real mother but the child doesn't know anything about this. The old lawyer is having a fight with herself as they walk. Does she need to tell him the truth? She knows she needs to but the promise she swore is keeping her from doing it. He deserves to know the truth but what should happen after that? She knows that… the kid might change. It will affect him, surely.
She was brought back to reality as her phone rang.
[Husband: Elaiza, love. Is Psalm with you right now? I can't find him here. I just came home from the office. I know you're at work so I was worried. Please tell me. I am—]
She laughed silently as she heard her husband. They always wanted a child but they couldn't have. They were both blessed and sad as the child was given to them.
"Roger! Do not be worried. I just came home early so I brought him with me. I'll… I'll bring him to Mackenzie. What do you think I should do, love? I-I don't know what to do."
[Roger: You are fighting for hundreds of fates in court, you can win your battle with yourself, haha.]
Eliza doesn't know if she'd smile or be confused truly but she knows… she should decide now.
"Okay. See you when we get home. I love you!"
[Roger: I love you more.]
"I love you so much!"
[Roger: I love you very much!]
"You're so cute, mama and papa, haha. I wish when I get older I could find my love too." the kid said, "Silly. You're too young for that." the couple said simultaneously, and so, Simoun laughed.
He's too young to be this old when it comes to psychology. He's smarter than everyone in their school. What should you expect with the brain of a president and the brain of a doctor? His grandparents will surely be proud of him. If she could just tell them…
"Mama, look. She's cute!" Simoun said and pointed to the girl who's eating an ice cream like him.
"Do you want to go to them?" his mother asked. He immediately nodded.
Eliza walked with Simoun towards the group of girls but as soon as they reached them, Simoun hid on his mother's back. "Hey, Simoun. I thought you wanted to see this young lady?" her mother teased. "Mama... " he said and furrowed his eyebrows.
"Sino po? Ako po?" the girl asked in Filipino which could be translated as 'Who, madam? Me?'
Eliza nodded and the girl immediately smiled. "Can you speak English? We just got back from being in Canada and he doesn't really know how to speak Tagalog now. We're still teaching him."
The girl nodded without removing the smile on her face, "Hi, what's his name po?"
Eliza thought she could be a kind woman and person someday. She's so polite and Eliza likes her. Even her attitude and mood. She's so positive. She's gorgeous. Her morena (tanned) skin showcases Filipina beauty.
"Psalm Simoun Cruz but you can call him everything you want, haha." Eliza stated and smiled at the kid.
"Hi, Sam! You're...cute. I'm Moi, nice meeting you." the girl said and the kid immediately brushed.
"I heard my surname. Do we have relatives here?"
That voice sent shivers down Eliza's body. She shouldn't have said his whole name.
"Attorney Manalastas?"
"Markian... "
"You're... " Markian pointed to the kid on her back. Simoun went out to see him much better. His heart is beating so fast but she doesn't know why.
"Hi, baby. You're so cute." he exclaimed and pinched his cheeks. "Is he your child?" he asked and she nodded.
"What a coincidence. That should be the name of our… of our baby, haha." he said and smiled.
"Where are you heading to, by the way?" he queried when Eliza did not answer.
A deafening silence ate the moment. Finally, she had the courage to speak.
"T-to her mother."
Simoun's eyebrows furrowed. "But you're my mother, mama."
She cried as she heard her boy saying that. Today will be the starting point of the change in her life and everyone's life.
"What do you mean?"
"What did I say? Haha. Anyway, is she your daughter?" she asked back.
"Honey!" someone called and Markian turned around.
It is the point she found the perfect time to run away. She thought she could finally do it but someone's really holding her back. Mackenzie.
