Chapter 19: Surprise

Cally's POV
As the morning light spilled into her room, Cally groggily reached for her phone, her eyes scanning the screen to see if there were any messages waiting for her. Her heart skipped a beat when she noticed a text from Jake, their late-night conversation still fresh in her mind.
Jake: Goodnight Cally, it was a very long day. There were so many papers to work on at school. I just arrived home and I'm about to sleep. I hope you have a restful night too.
A tinge of guilt washed over Cally as she realized that she had forgotten to update Jake on her own day. She quickly typed out a reply, wanting to assure him that she valued their communication.
Cally: Good morning, Jake! I'm so sorry I forgot to update you. I just woke up and I'm getting ready for work now.
Putting her phone aside, Cally proceeded to go about her morning routine. The sound of running water filled the bathroom as she took a refreshing shower, allowing the droplets to wash away any lingering sleepiness. She then moved on to carefully selecting her outfit for the day, wanting to present herself professionally at her workplace.
Just as she was about to finish getting ready, her phone buzzed again, indicating a new message. Surprised, Cally checked the screen and saw that it was from Trina, her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend whom she had recently reconciled with.
Trina: Hi Cally! Good morning. Wishing you a safe day at work. Love lots!
Confusion washed over Cally as she read Trina's warm message. After their previous encounter, she had assumed that it marked the closure of their relationship and didn't expect any further contact. Yet here was Trina reaching out to her with genuine kindness. A mixture of emotions swirled within Cally's mind as she contemplated the unexpected turn of events. Could it be that they were starting to form a friendship, despite their complicated history?
With these thoughts lingering in her mind, Cally tucked her phone into her bag and headed out the door, ready to face the day ahead. The mysteries of new connections and unexpected bonds lay before her, intertwining with the possibilities of the present.
Trina's POV:
Trina sat comfortably on the couch in her cozy home, her mind occupied with thoughts of her ongoing recovery. She didn't have to work that day, as she needed to rest and regain her strength after the injuries sustained in the accident. As she sipped on a warm cup of tea, her phone buzzed with a notification, indicating a message from her mother.
Mom: How are you feeling, my dear? Remember to take it easy and allow yourself the time to heal. I love you.
Trina smiled softly at her mother's thoughtful message, grateful for the constant support and care. She quickly typed out a reply, expressing her gratitude and reassuring her mother that she was taking the necessary rest. After bidding farewell to her mother, she was left alone with her thoughts.
As the silence enveloped the room, Trina's gaze shifted to her phone, contemplating whether she should reach out to Cally. There was an undeniable curiosity and desire to strengthen their connection. With a gentle sigh, Trina decided to send a text, taking a small step towards bridging the gap between them.
Trina: When is your day off? How about having a girls' date? It would be nice to spend some time together.
As she pressed the send button, Trina couldn't help but question the true nature of her growing fondness for Cally. She pondered why she felt drawn to her, despite the complexities of their past. Perhaps it was a shared understanding, a feeling of empathy that arose from the challenges they had both faced. Whatever the reason, Trina was eager to explore this new connection and discover what lay ahead.
With her phone resting beside her, Trina embraced the quiet solitude of the moment, eagerly awaiting Cally's response and the potential for a blossoming friendship.
Jake's POV:
As the last bell rang, signaling the end of Jake's classes, he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. He had successfully completed all his paperwork and lectures for the day, leaving him with ample time to plan a surprise dinner for Cally. With a smile on his face, he packed up his things and bid farewell to his fellow teachers.
"I'm heading out now, Sir Pancho," Jake announced, unable to contain his enthusiasm.
Sir Pancho chuckled and raised an eyebrow teasingly. "Leaving so soon? Do you have a special date, Jake?" he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Jake laughed and nodded. "Yes, actually. I have something planned. Wish me luck!"
With the support and playful banter from his colleagues, Jake strode out of the faculty room, his mind focused on the preparations that lay ahead. He wasted no time in booking a reservation at a fancy restaurant, ensuring that everything would be perfect for their dinner.
Dialing the number, Jake engaged in a brief conversation with the restaurant staff, securing a table for two in a cozy corner. He carefully chose the menu, keeping in mind Cally's preferences, and confirmed the reservation, grateful for their assistance in making his surprise a reality.
With the restaurant reservation settled, Jake's next stop was the flower shop. He wanted to present Cally with a beautiful bouquet that would capture her attention and express his growing feelings for her. Engaging in a conversation with the vendor, Jake requested a customized arrangement, carefully selecting her favorite flowers to adorn the bouquet.
Finally, Jake made his way to the cake shop, a small smile tugging at his lips. He wanted to add an extra touch of sweetness to their evening. After perusing the various options, he settled on a decadent cake and made a special request to have the words "Will you be my girlfriend?" beautifully inscribed on it.
With the preparations complete, Jake couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation and nervous excitement. He hoped that his gestures would convey his genuine affection for Cally and that their dinner would be a memorable and meaningful moment for both of them.
As he left the cake shop, holding the exquisite bouquet and the cake carefully, Jake's mind was filled with thoughts of Cally. He knew that tonight would be a significant step in their budding relationship, and he couldn't wait to see her smiling face and hear her response to his heartfelt question.
Cally’s POV:
With the bouquet of flowers and the cake in hand, Jake couldn't resist picking out a beautiful dress for Cally. He wanted her to feel special and cherished on their dinner date. After carefully selecting a dress that he thought would complement her natural beauty, he paid for it with a smile, excited to see Cally's reaction.
The time had come to pick up Cally for their special evening. Jake's heart raced with anticipation as he made his way to the café where they had planned to meet after her work. He arrived a few minutes early, wanting to ensure that everything was in place for their night together.
As he patiently waited, butterflies danced in his stomach. He couldn't help but picture Cally's radiant smile when she saw the surprise he had in store for her. The minutes seemed to stretch on, but finally, he spotted her stepping out of the café, a vision of beauty.
Jake approached Cally with a warm smile, unable to hide his excitement. "Hi, Cally," he greeted, his voice filled with genuine joy. "You look absolutely stunning."
Cally blushed, a mixture of surprise and delight crossing her features. "Thank you, Jake," she replied, her voice tinged with genuine appreciation. "You didn't have to get me a dress. You've already done so much."
Jake shrugged off her comment, his eyes sparkling with adoration. "I wanted tonight to be special, Cally," he confessed. "And you deserve nothing less."
As they made their way to his car, Jake opened the door for Cally, gesturing for her to enter. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride as he watched her settle into the seat, the dress he had chosen accentuating her grace and beauty.
As they drove towards the restaurant, the anticipation in the air was palpable. Jake stole glances at Cally, mesmerized by her presence. He couldn't believe how fortunate he was to have found someone as genuine and captivating as her.
Throughout the car ride, they engaged in light-hearted conversation, their laughter filling the space between them. Jake felt a sense of ease and comfort, knowing that their connection was growing stronger with each passing moment.
“What?” Cally noticed Jake’s gazed on her while driving.
“So pretty.”
“Stop and focus on the way, you’re driving. I don’t want to die yet.” Cally teased him
“No, I won’t let a beautiful girl die in a tragic way. I’m still dreaming for our wedding.”
“Hahaha wedding? You’re crazy.”
Finally, they arrived at the restaurant, an elegant and romantic ambiance enveloping them. Jake escorted Cally inside, feeling a sense of pride as heads turned, acknowledging the couple's striking appearance. He led her to their reserved table, adorned with candlelight and adorned with roses.
As they settled into their seats, Jake couldn't help but feel a wave of gratitude and excitement. He gazed at Cally, his heart overflowing with affection. Tonight was the perfect opportunity to express his feelings and take their relationship to the next level.
As they arrived at the restaurant, Cally's eyes widened in surprise at the breathtaking scenery before her. The dimly lit space was adorned with elegant décor and soft music filled the air. She couldn't help but feel a tinge of awe at the luxurious setting.
"So beautiful! Oh my God, Jake! It's too expensive, I guess," Cally exclaimed, her voice filled with astonishment.
Jake smiled warmly, gently placing his hand over hers. "There's no such thing as too expensive when it comes to making you feel special, my love," he reassured her, his eyes filled with sincerity.
Cally blushed, her heart fluttering at his words. She couldn't deny the overwhelming affection she felt for Jake in that moment.
They were seated at their reserved table, surrounded by an air of romance and tranquility. They perused the menu, engaging in light-hearted banter as they made their choices. Their laughter filled the space, creating an ambiance of joy and warmth.
As they savored their delicious meals, Jake couldn't help but steal glances at Cally, captivated by her beauty and the genuine connection they shared. They engaged in deep conversations, learning more about each other's dreams, aspirations, and fears. Their chemistry was undeniable, creating an atmosphere of comfort and understanding.
Midway through the dinner, Jake signaled to the waiter, who approached their table carrying a beautifully decorated cake. Cally's eyes widened with surprise as she read the words "Will you be my girlfriend?" delicately written on the cake.
Tears welled up in Cally's eyes as she was overwhelmed by a flood of emotions. The past traumas she had experienced in previous relationships suddenly resurfaced, causing her heart to ache with vulnerability.
Jake noticed Cally's change in demeanor and reached out to gently wipe away her tears. "Cally, I know that trust is something that needs to be earned, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to show you that you can rely on me," he said softly, his voice filled with sincerity.
Cally nodded, her voice trembling with a mix of apprehension and hope. "Jake, I want to believe in us. I want to let go of my past and open my heart to the possibility of a beautiful future together."
Jake squeezed Cally's hand, his eyes brimming with love and understanding. "I promise to cherish and protect your heart, Cally. Let's take things one step at a time and build something real and meaningful together."
As they held each other's gaze, the weight of their shared experiences seemed to lift, replaced by a newfound sense of trust and hope. In that moment, they made a silent commitment to let go of the past and embrace the journey of love and healing that lay ahead.
