Episode 12
★Zara's POV★
Who can I turn to? Why was I created just to suffer? What the hell is happening to me?
After lying lifelessly on the ground, drenched by the rain, I stood up and surveyed my surroundings for a place to stay for the night. Unfortunately, there was none.
Stranded and afraid to return to Aunt Kate's, I had no choice but to head back there. I hoped she would accept me or at least provide me with a place to rest my head for the night.
As I walked, various thoughts raced through my mind. Would she even allow me to stay with her? I had insulted and mocked her. She might treat me like a rag, but I would accept it, no matter what.
Suddenly, a car pulled up beside me. This time, I knew I needed help and was willing to accept it from anyone. The car window rolled down, and to my surprise, it was Bethel.
I was overjoyed to see him. I was ready to go with him, regardless of what might happen. If he didn't offer, I was prepared to beg for his help. Staying with him for the night would be better than going to live with Kate.
"Why do you keep walking in the rain these days?" he asked. I pretended that everything was fine.
"Uh... why do you too love driving under the rain?" I asked as he smiled. "Maybe because I knew I would meet you," he replied.
"It brings me joy to see you on the way, but it hurts my heart when you turn me down," he added as I smiled.
"I'm sorry. You wouldn't understand," I responded as he nodded.
"Where are you going? Come on, get inside. I'll drop you off," he said, and I didn't hesitate to get into the car.
"So, where are you heading?" he asked, looking back at me. "Why don't you come to the front?" he suggested.
"No, I think I'll be fine here," I replied, keeping silent about my destination.
Then he glanced at me and realized I was crying - he saw my tears.
"I'm going nowhere," I said in a low voice, shaking my head as tears streamed down my face.
"Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
"Maybe if you take me somewhere better, I'll try to explain," I replied.
"Okay, would you mind if I take you to my house?" he asked.
"I'm already homeless, so I don't mind," I responded, as he stared at me for a while before starting the car and driving us to his house.
★Tina's POV★
I was waiting for my mother to return, because it is already getting late. Aunty Benita was with me in the living room, but I suspected that she was hiding something from me.
As we watched a movie, I held my little brother, who was always happy to be with me. I couldn't help but asked, "Where is mother? If anything happens to her, you'll rot in jail!"
Aunty Benita just smiled. "You're too intelligent for your own good. Sometimes, being too wise makes you foolish," she replied, and I continued to stare at her suspiciously.
"If we're both here, how could you ask me about your mother's disappearance, foolish!" She added.
"Disappearance?! How do you know she's missing?" I asked, and I stood up, angry.
"You little brat! You can be easily tricked. I can see that already," she said, and I sat back down, irritated.
"It better be a trick and not real," I muttered, and she laughed. "And what if it's not?" she asked, interrupting me.
"What makes you think you can jail a spirit? If it were possible, I would have spent seven years in jail by now," she replied, and I laughed, making her look foolish.
Doesn't it sound funny the way she uses words that are far too big for her? Of course, it does.
"You know what baffles me?" I asked, taking a deep breath. "What baffles me is that you claim to be a god or goddess. What makes you think that?"
"Looking at you, you're just a mere human that can't do anything," I said, and she sat up, silent.
"So what happened to you last night wasn't enough?" she said, and I widened my eyes.
"Wow, is that all? Is that why you call yourself a goddess? There are many sorceresses who can do more than you. You're nothing."
"Can I ask you a question?" I requested. "Go ahead and keep proving your stupidity," she responded, but I ignored her insult.
"If you're such a god as you claim, then why are you in a mere mortal's house? You were born by your mother just like my mother was," I pointed out.
"Secondly, why don't you build a palace where you can stay and rule as the god you claim to be, instead of trying to manipulate a happy family?" I asked, and she remained silent.
"And why do you think I'm here? I'm richer than your mum, kid," she replied, making me think.
According to her, she was on a mission to build her kingdom, and she needed David to do so. I stared at her in surprise, and then at David.
"You're surprised, right?" she said, and I breathed heavily. It was like I was starting to believe her story.
"So, your sister's brother wasn't enough for you to build a temple? You want my little brother?!" I asked, and she looked at me strangely.
"Which sister? I have no sister," she replied.
"But my mum said you're her sister," I responded.
"Then I'm afraid she lied," she replied, making me furious. So my mother had to lie to me just because of her?
"Who are you? What the hell do you want?!" I asked, my voice deepening.
"Don't bother. You'll find out soon enough, as soon as I get what I want," she replied, smiling.
"Do you think that keeping David with you will stop me? I don't think you know me well. You're just wasting your time and stressing yourself out," she added, lying down on the couch and continuing to watch the movie.
At that moment, I was scared, and I looked at the wall clock. It was almost 9 pm.
"Hahaha," she gave a strange laugh that scared me. "You're expecting her? Funny, isn't it?"
"Little kid, just pray your mother returns alive!" she said in a deep voice, and I stared at her with my eyes wide open, becoming even more scared.Download Novelah App
