Chapter 53 His Shattered Universe

The cityscape was fairy dust scattered on each building. They enchanted neon colors from car lights like graffitis passing through Youngsoo and Sun Hee who were enjoying a piece of rock music on the radio.
“Hey, I never knew we have the same music taste,” Sun Hee commented.
“Me neither,” Youngsoo replied, and they spiked a high-five.
“Are you sure you will not check Daewon?” she said as soon as the car stopped at the hospital where they sent Daewon.
“Mee Yoon already told me what happened. I think he is not in terrible shape. Please send my regards to him.”
“Really? So you are only going to show up if it’s his funeral?”
Youngsoo smirked.
“Geez. You’re so slow. Daewon doesn’t need our presence. Mee Yoon is there. I’m sure we are a disturbance to them.”
Sun Hee lifted an eyebrow.
“So he is taking advantage of the situation to get her back.”
Youngsoo nodded.
“He turned the catastrophe into a blessing. It’s definite, he is in cloud nine right now with all the attention he needs.”
“Thanks for reminding me. Now, I’ll head there and ruin his imagination.”
Sun Hee stepped out of the car as if holding an M16 in her hands, ready to shatter Daewon’s hidden agenda.
“Wait. Call me when you’re done and I’ll take you home.”
Sun Hee flashed an agitated look to Youngsoo.
“Will you please stop? I’m fine. It’s over a month already and the killer hasn’t visited me. Stop being so paranoid or I’ll file a restraining order.”
“Don’t raise your tone on me, young lady. I can cuff your hands anytime. I bet you want that,” Youngsoo teased.
Sun Hee rolled her eyes and glimpsed at the sky.
“Call me. If you don’t, well, I’ll track you down.”
Youngsoo waved goodbye and went on his way. Sun Hee threw a tantrum before heading to Daewon’s room.
“What is this?” Sun Hee folded her arms while staring at Mee Yoon and Daewon.
“I thought your head has a little damage. And now you broke your arms?” She said in a sarcastic tone.
Mee Yoon was feeding him some soup, and Daewon looked euphoric.
“Sun Hee… you are here to visit me? I’m touched.” Daewon pouted.
“Are you serious? Or you want me out?” She pointed at the door.
“Oh, come on. Of course, I missed you too.”
Sun Hee placed the bouquet of flowers on the table.
“Youngsoo said hi and ran off. It is so mean of him not to be here.”
“It’s fine. Tell him I appreciate his absence,” Youngsoo said with a smile.
Mee Yoon’s phone rang.
“Excuse. Let me take this call,” Mee Yoon said, and walked out.
Sun Hee sat beside Daewon and examined his face.
“You don’t seem hurt at all. Are you putting on an act?”
Daewon chuckled.
“How could you say that when I lost lots of blood?”
Sun Hee narrowed her eyes.
“And you smile more often. Your vibe is radiating. Am I missing something?”
Daewon gazed straight into her eyes.
“Sun Hee, thank you for everything. Thank you for supporting us and helping me. Right now, I am happy.”
His eyes glistened with delight.
“Wait a minute. Did you get back together?”
“Not yet. But I know she still likes me. She cares about me. Mee Yoon is afraid of losing me. I sensed it.”
His assumptions silenced Sun Hee for five seconds.
“You are exaggerating. Everyone is worried about you. Just because she’s concerned doesn’t mean she loves you.”
Daewon bowed his head.
“I know you’re going to say that. But I trust my instincts. She loves me, Sun Hee. She does, and no one’s going to change that.”
Sun Hee opened her mouth and was about to speak when Mee Yoon came in.
“Hey, Sun Hee. Did you have dinner with Youngsoo?” Mee Yoon asked.
“No, I haven’t.”
“Then join me,” Mee Yoon drifted her eyes to Daewon, “I’ll come back.”
Daewon nodded, “See you later.”
When the two were gone, Daewon gazed back at the white ceiling as he clasped his hands together. He breathe with ease and closed his eyes. In a few seconds, the door screeched and there were footsteps approaching him.
“Did you miss me in a millisecond?” Daewon said and opened his eyes.
To his surprise, the person in front of him wasn’t the one he was expecting. He was on top of the list of people he wanted to see the least.
“Dong-sun… What are you doing here?”
“Checking out my former employer.”
“Are you sure? Or you want to bump into someone else?”
Dong-sun simpered and shook his head.
“I’m here for a patient. If you are referring to Mee Yoon, we cut ties a long time ago.”
“Oh, that’s unfortunate.”
Daewon tried to sound sympathetic.
“How are you?”
Daewon beamed a wide smile.
“I’m happy.”
Dong-sun was unmoved. There was no hint of emotion on his blank face.
“If you only saw her horrified face while holding me in her arms. It was priceless. I could go to the moon and kiss it. The way she looks at me? Oh man, I’m in trouble,” Daewon laughed.
Dong-sun’s eyes flickered.
“I felt like we traveled back when everything was perfect. When the world only revolves around us. She fed me like she’s my wife. Mee Yoon took care of me like I am her everything.”
Daewon was tearing up while boasting about Mee Yoon’s treatment of him.
“If only I can freeze this moment, I will not let it slip. She loves me.”
Daewon’s voice cracked as his chest pounded.
“I’m… I’m happy for you,” Dong-sun said.
Daewon wiped the tears from his eyes.
“Why are you crying?”
“It’s tears of joy. Finally, I have proven my worth. I’ve waited for six years. Six long and lonely years. To be honest, I thought of crushing you because I won’t allow anyone to stand in my way. But it’s clear to me she doesn’t have feelings for you. And that kiss was a mistake.”
Dong-sun clenched his jaw and looked away.
“Pretending to be a woman? That was a brilliant move. I’m impressed.”
Daewon grinned.
Before Dong-sun could lose his temper, the door opened.
“You seem fine. I’m glad. I got to go,” Dong-sun said.
Mee Yoon gazed at him as he walked past her. She gulped, waiting for his eyes to meet hers. It confused her when her heart thumped when she smelled his scent. But just like how she tore the chapters with him, he didn’t glance at her. Dong-sun disappeared without looking back at her.
“Hey, who was that? He looks familiar and extremely hot,” Sun Hee said.
With sadness in her eyes, Mee Yoon replied, “An old friend.”
