17 - Jealousy

Myrtle's Point of View
"Did you wake up early?" Sean asked me as soon as he woke up.
I slept beside Lemon last night. I couldn't bear sleeping with Sean after what he just muttered.
I didn't reply.
I don't even understand why I am feeling this way. It's so pathetic!
Like I care if he still loves his ex-girlfriend.
But still, he kept confessing his love to me! It's so confusing.
"Hey, darling, what's—"
"Could you stop calling me that? It's so annoying," I unintentionally yelled.
This doesn't feel like me. My parents didn't raise me to just yell at anyone for no reason.
"Oh, is it your time of the month? I'm so sorry. I'll go buy you pads. Do you use tampons? What do you want to eat? Pizza? Chocolate?" he asked.
His voice made me infuriated. I just don't want to hear him talk to me for a while.
"Yes, it's that time of the month. Please don't talk to me first because your voice annoys me," I replied and immediately went inside my room.
I lied. I'm not on my period.
I just had to have a reasonable reason for my attitude.
A few minutes have passed, and I heard Sean knocking on my door.
"I bought everything," he said.
I sighed and opened my door. I saw him holding a bag of different pads and tampons. On the other hand was a box of pizza and chocolates.
"What's with all of these?" I surprisedly asked and grabbed everything he was holding.
"For you to be more comfortable. Don't worry. I won't show myself if my presence is annoying you," Sean said and walked away.
My lips parted. I was about to stop him, but for what reason?
If he wants to stay away, then he does what he wants. Besides, both of us should remain casual more often. We aren't real couples anyway.
I closed the door and looked at all the stuff he had bought for me.
I had never experienced this before. And because of that, I found myself smiling.
Stop it, Myrtle. He was just being kind. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yes, this is just nothing.
...
The whole day passed, and I hadn't seen Sean anywhere. I waited for him until midnight, but he didn't even plan to come home.
I kept checking my phone, expecting a message or a call from him, but I received nothing.
Maybe he's with Krizza right now.
Ugh! This is frustrating me!
"What's happening to you, Miss Myrtle? It seemed like you were in a bad mood the whole day. This is very much not like you." Lemon walked toward me on the couch while holding a bag of honey-flavored potato chips.
"Is Krizza beautiful?" I asked her out of the blue.
My mouth just suddenly uttered that without my brain's consent.
Lemon bewilderedly looked at me for a few seconds, and then she smiled.
"Yup! Miss Krizza is very beautiful. She's perfect," Lemon said. "But don't be dismayed, Myrtle. You just have to fix yourself more, and you're going to reach her level somehow," Lemon continued.
I sighed. Who on earth am I to be compared to someone as rich, as kind, as beautiful, and as talented as Krizza? Naturally, If I were Sean, I would fall in love with her.
"Come on, Myrtle, I don't think Sir Sean and Miss Krizza are getting back together. Besides, you have your own beauty." Lemon sweetly smiled at me.
"Are you jealous? Is that the reason you're on a bad temper the whole day?" she asked.
Me? Jealous?
"Of course not! There's nothing to be jealous of," I replied and looked away. It's so apparent that I was lying.
So, am I really jealous?
I don't understand myself either. How would I know?
"I know, Sir Sean. He really loves you, Myrtle," Lemon mumbled.
He also told me that couple of times. Despite it, he still had the guts to mutter his ex-girlfriend's name in front of my eyes.
"Lemon, you're still too young to know about love and everything about it. Go to your room now and study instead of eating all the chips," I told her.
Lemon immediately obeyed me and went to her room. I can't believe I'm actually friends with a fifteen-year-old girl addicted to romance but doesn't have a boyfriend and has never been in a relationship.
She reminds me of my siblings. The twins and Rita. They're younger than Lemon, but I'm sure that they would really get along once they meet.
I sighed again for the nth time. It's annoying that I am feeling this way.
...
The next day, Sean still hasn't arrived home.
Hah, never mind about him. It's not like he's a big deal anyway.
But still, what if other people see him with Krizza?
I mean, where else could he be? They're probably together.
"Good morning, Myrtle. You're sulking, and it's still seven a.m." Lemon came inside my room and gave me my breakfast.
"Thanks," I replied.
"Sir Sean didn't come home? That's unusual," she spoke while gazing around the place.
"Yeah."
"Did the two of you fight?"
"Not at all... Well... I think so?"
Lemon grimaced at me. "Eyy, what did he do to you?" she proceeded to ask.
"Actually, I did him wrong. But he's still not coming home, so I couldn't apologize," I replied and took a bite of my pancakes topped with honey and whipped cream.
"Then call him over the phone, or text him," Lemon suggested.
That would kill my pride. I can't just message him out of nowhere. He'll think that I am already accepting him.
But wouldn't it be too confusing for him that I'm acting this way towards him? I don't think he is aware he had said Krizza's name while asleep in my room.
Am I wrong?
Geez, this is so annoying.
I grabbed my phone and looked at my contacts. Unsurprisingly, Sean is the only contact I have.
I stopped for a while and thought about whether to do this.
Still, I'm at fault for being so rude to him. I have no right to be jealous or rude.
I immediately pressed the call button, and the other line immediately answered.
"Hello, Myrtle?" I heard his raspy morning voice on the other line.
"Hi," I simply replied.
Nobody spoke for a second or two.
"Did you miss me already? Don't worry, I'll come home later." He finally broke the silence.
"Alright. Where did you stay?" I asked.
"Just at a friend's house. Do you want to talk to him?" he replied.
I shook my head. "No, it's fine."
"Okay, I'll hang up now. Good morning, Myrtle." The call abruptly ended after he said those words.
He isn't calling me darling now.
Anyway, it kind of made me feel a little relieved that he is staying with a friend.
But what if Krizza is still with him, though?
Anyway, today is the application for med school. I need to prepare myself.
...
This city is always busy. Everybody works there and here.
It's just sad that a person's life is spent on work. They tend to forget time for leisure and travel.
I walked inside Faraday University and saw a lot of students in their white coats. It has always been my dream to wear one too and walk along the streets.
I directly went to the registrars to apply for admission. After I was done, I bumped into someone.
"Yohan?" I muttered and immediately smiled as I saw him.
He looked extra handsome today. Surprisingly, his hair is tidied up, and he isn't holding a sketchpad.
"Oh, Myrtle!" he exclaimed and immediately pulled me for a hug.
I hugged him back. To be honest, I actually missed him a bit. Ever since the wedding, I haven't returned to the cafe I was working at and never met Kristina and Yohan again.
It would be nice to visit Kristina today. Besides, I have nothing to do after this admission.
"You're applying for admission?" Yohan asked after we hugged.
"Yup. Hopefully, I get accepted," I replied.
"Knowing you, Myrtle, there's no doubt you'll get accepted. You're so smart and hardworking," Yohan said.
He made me blush.
"What about you? What are you doing here?" I asked him back.
"I'm here to visit my mom. She's a professor," he replied.
Wow, that's cool. "Is your mom a doctor?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Anyway, what do you plan on doing today? Do you have other things to do—with your husband, perhaps?" Yohan said as we walked towards the university exit.
"I don't have plans with him. He's too busy," I replied.
Yohan just chuckled. "Then, do you mind going somewhere with me? You can call your friend at the cafe if you want to," he said.
That's right, Kristina!
"Alright. Let's go to her first."
...
"Oh my goodness, Myrtle! What on earth were you doing? Why didn't you come back?" Kristina yelled at me as soon as I stepped a foot inside the cafe.
"I got married," I said and showed my ring on my left hand.
"Woah, I didn't know you have a boyfriend. Was it the rich guy? Or Yohan?" Kristina asked and looked at Yohan, who was sitting on a bench.
"The rich guy," I replied.
Kristina gasped in shock. "Really? That explains why you didn't come back. You already have a rich life ahead of you. What about your mom? How is she?" she asked again.
"My mom's in Switzerland. She's doing really great," I replied.
I'm happy to see Kristina again. We should go out sometime.
"By the way, do you want to come with us? We're going to eat somewhere," I asked Kristina and looked at Yohan.
"Hmm, I'm sorry. I still have a lot to do here. Anyway, I'll make it up to you guys next time. You can go without me. Thanks, by the way," she replied and smiled at me.
We hugged for the last time.
Yohan and I went to a restaurant that was not familiar to me. However, it looked really luxurious.
"Hey, don't you think this place is expensive?" I asked him as I looked around the place.
"It's on me. Don't worry, the food here is really great, compared to many other prestigious restaurants," he said.
"No, I insist. I have money. I'll pay for my meal," I insisted.
"It's alright." Yohan patted my shoulder.
...
We started eating. Yohan really ordered A LOT!
There are steaks, veggies, chicken, soup, and champagne. I don't even know what these foods are called.
But they're really delicious. It's the first time in my life I tasted these dishes. But somehow, it hurts while I'm swallowing because of the price.
"How much is all of these?" I asked Yohan.
"Secret," he teased.
Hah! Still, I need to pay him.
I'm using Sean's credit card. He allowed me anyway.
"Myrtle, I told you to not worry about it. Go and enjoy your meal."
Yohan is such a great guy. I hope he finds someone he can love.
"Yohan, what's your full name?" I asked him.
"Yohan Muelle Preston."
I nodded my head. What a lovely name.
...
After eating at that restaurant, I immediately checked my phone because someone was calling me.
It was Sean.
"Hello?" I answered the call.
"Where are you?" he asked. He seemed mad.
"Uhm—I'm with a friend. Why?"
"Look to your right."
I immediately looked to my right and saw Sean leaning on his black car.
He ended the call and walked toward Yohan and me.
"Let's go," Sean said and grabbed my wrist.
"Huh? Wait, I need to—"
"Let's go, darling."
