Chapter 77

YLONA succeeded in doing that. When they got home, she told her husband everything, so they stayed far away and hid from Alfred. For years, they succeeded in maintaining a simple life.
They thought Alfred had stopped looking for them back then... but apparently not.
Because just as Beckett was returning from Milan, Alfred tracked them down and took both their lives.
“Damn it,” Alfred cursed as he remembered it all. “How dare they betray me like this?” he added with a whisper, annoyed because he felt he had been outsmarted.
But he wouldn't let the past repeat itself. He was weak back then and too trusting, but not anymore.
Alfred took his phone and called someone. “Joan.”
“Sir Alfred!” Joan greeted cheerfully on the other line, not expecting Alfred to call her again. “Do you have something for me to do? I'll do anything just to make up for it!”
“This is the last time I’ll give you to redeem yourself,” Alfred leaned back on the couch. “Find Beckett’s drug den, and all the information about Foedus Corporation. He should be removed from that group, no matter what, and I will take my daughter away from him.”
MEANWHILE, Beckett took Vivianne to Agrianthropos to rest. Beckett tended to his wife's wounds, which had started bleeding again during their journey.
Beckett wanted to go to the hospital at that time, but Vivianne insisted they should go directly to Agrianthropos City instead. She was tired from everything that had happened that day, and she just wanted to rest.
While Beckett treated Vivianne, he also started asking questions about the Allamino mafia, and Vivianne answered all his questions. She even provided some information that Beckett didn't know before.
“If I gather more information from that place, I'll let you know,” Vivianne said before locking eyes with her husband. “Like you, I'm also investigating that place. That's the only way I can destroy them.”
“But you should be careful. Just because you’re his daughter doesn’t mean that you’ll be safe from his rage.” Beckett finished tying the bandage on Vivianne's arm. “Try to maintain distance from him for the meantime.”
“That's impossible. That's where I work.” Vivianne laughed bitterly because even with what happened, she would still go there tomorrow to complete the pending tasks. “But since I answered your questions earlier, I'll be the one asking you now.”
“What is it?”
“How can I make sure that you’re going to help me save my mom?” Vivianne asked, causing Beckett to raise his gaze, his brow furrowed. “Because you might just be seeking revenge against me. You almost killed me before—”
“You didn’t kill me,” Beckett interrupted the girl's words. He finished what he was doing before sitting beside Vivianne. “You did that on purpose. You wanted me to escape.”
Vivianne avoided his gaze. “Let's say that's true, but that's not enough for me to believe you.”
“Well, would this be enough?”
Beckett cupped Vivianne's chin to face her, then he kissed her. It was deep from the start. Vivianne immediately closed her eyes and gripped the guy's shirt.
They shared a passionate, wild kiss. After a few minutes, Vivianne gently pushed him away. “W-Wait, I can't breathe…”
Beckett chuckled lightly at that, but soon his expression turned serious again.
“I told you about this before, and I will repeat it. I still love you. That didn't disappear even though we were apart for so long,” Beckett said, his tone sincere. There was a hint of sadness in his voice. “I know I mean nothing to you now, but then, don’t invalidate my feelings.”
Vivianne cursed in her mind upon hearing that. There was truth in all of that. She still loved Beckett, and now that they were together again, everything became dangerous for them once more.
It seems like danger always pursues them every time they are together.
“You don’t need to love me back. Just… let me show how much I love you.”
Vivianne felt a twinge in her heart as she looked at the sadness in her husband's eyes, but she couldn't speak. Her heart was still filled with fear.
She, too, was confused, but she knew everything would be alright once she managed to get her mother away from Alfred.
“I also did everything you told me before,” Beckett said before stroking Vivianne's hair. “I’m always attentive and taking care of myself.”
Vivianne nodded. It was true. Beckett had indeed become more handsome and charismatic than before. He looked more mature, but at the same time, it suited him.
"Only one thing remains that I haven't done yet, and that's to save your mother. We need to get her out of the mansion to escape,” Beckett explained in a serious tone. “But that will be risky. Would you still like to try?”
“If we try to minimize the risk, then we could succeed… Right?”
Beckett nodded and smiled. “Right.”
After that, Beckett told his wife about his plan. He had been thinking about it for a long time, so it was quite detailed and polished when he explained it to Vivianne.
“Once your mom takes this drug, it will make her heart beat rapidly, making everyone think that she’s suffering from a heart attack,” Beckett explained as he showed Vivianne a sachet containing powder. “But after seven minutes, everything will go back to normal. There will be no side effects. I assure you that.”
Beckett had tried it several times before. He also extracted some chemicals from Ella's blood to ensure that nothing bad would happen when he used the drug. He even tried it on himself a few times just to make sure.
Yet, he was still alive and kicking.
“So, it means that when she's in the hospital, the effects of the drug will soon wear off, and that's when we'll rescue her?”
“Exactly,” Beckett replied. “I will wait for you in the parking lot. I'll also have a few people placed inside the hospital, but not too many. This plan will likely succeed if there are only a few people involved.”
“I understand.” Vivianne nodded. “But, do we really have to use this? Can’t Mom just pretend to have a heartache?”
“It can be, but Alfred might discover what we’re planning. It will be more difficult for us if that happens,” Beckett replied as he stared at the drug. “By taking this, the guards won’t doubt anything. They'll immediately take Ella to the hospital.”
Vivianne nodded, but her lips were slightly parted.
“I thought you were just a distributor, but who would have thought you could also make something like this?” Vivianne said as she looked at what her husband had shown her. “Model, actor, handsome, and wealthy. You have it all. Amazing!”
“Not all,” Beckett replied, smiling sadly.
Vivianne was puzzled. “What? Is there something else you still want?”
“Your love, Vivianne…” Beckett said, looking Vivianne in the eye. “I don’t have it yet.”
Vivianne felt like she was drowning when she saw the sadness in Beckett's eyes. She knew he was hurting, and she also knew she was the reason for it.
She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know whether she'd resist… or give in.
“Let’s do this plan as soon as possible,” Beckett said before gently stroking Vivianne's cheek, as if calming her down. “I need you to be ready.”
Vivianne smiled and lightly held Beckett's hand against her cheek. “I hope we succeed.”
“We planned everything and we did the best thing we could. So, it will succeed,” Beckett reassured her. “After this, you can stop being a puppet to that person and live a good life with your mother.”
That was one of Beckett's dreams for his wife. As long as she’s happy, then he’ll be happy, too.
“Thank you, Beckett…” Vivianne smiled as she looked at her husband. “I will always remember this.”
