“It's all right. Hurry so that you won't be late for your lectures,” The VC accepted and walked briskly to his car while she joined her friends. Meanwhile, she was unaware of the war that was going on in Johnny's mind, but his anger bled into his countenance. “I apologize for keeping you waiting,” she said and looked at the couple in the back. Then, she gave Johnny a love look, and pleaded, “Don't be mad at me, my Johnny. I apologize.” Johnny returned the love look but for a different reason. He searched her for any sign of peck or kiss, and he was elated when he found none. Then, he gave her a peck and turned on his ignition. Thereafter, he inquired, “Are you through with Prof. Farrell?” “No. He is taking me to the estate for the arrangement he made for me,” Ruby pointed out and omitted that it was from her adoptive parents. Now, Johnny looked at Stanley through the driving mirror and saw the sad look on his face. To avoid suspicion, Stanley advised, “We should not keep the VC waiting. Let's follow him at once.” Johnny got the advice and moved. When they got to the gate. Mrs. Gail was surprised to see them. Then, she showed concern, and asked, “You just left, Johnny. Did you forget something?” “No, Mrs. Gail. We are with the VC,” Johnny responded. “Oh! He just drove in. You can go in so that you don't miss him.” “Thank you, Mrs. Gail,” Johnny appreciated her with a dry smile. “All right, and don't keep him waiting.” “I got it.” Now Johnny drove in and increased his speed. Although they could not see the Vice Chancellor's car, Johnny seemed to know the way. Then, Carmine suggested, “Can you call him to know where he is, Ruby?” “You are right,” Ruby admitted and tried to call him. Now Johnny glared at her, and she quickly cautioned herself. “No need for that, Carmine,” she made clear and put her phone back into her purse. The hypervigilant Stanley, who was aware that Ruby loved and respected Johnny so much, smiled inwardly, while the unsuspecting Carmine worried herself for nothing. The two girls saw the Vice Chancellor as a father or a big uncle, while the two men saw him as a rival. “How do we trace him, if we don't call him,” she inquired. Nevertheless, she got no response, but Stanley squeezed her hand, and consoled her, “Relax.” To her surprise, Johnny drove through different roads and turnings and arrived at the flat. Meanwhile, the VC's driver just parked too. “Have you been here before?” Ruby inquired and attempted to get out of the car. “Wait,” Journey ignored her question, and halted, and she was still. Then he inquired, “What arrangement are you talking about?” “He wouldn't have me stay in the hostel anymore because I would be inconvenienced,” she answered boldly, while Johnny admired the innocence in her eyes. “What if I say I'm not comfortable with the arrangement?” He asked and locked eyes with her. She looked away in helplessness, and after a few seconds, she responded coldly, “I can ask him to stop, but his efforts would have been in vain.” “And he would feel disrespected,” Carmine added. Nevertheless, Johnny noticed the disappointment in her tone, and pointed out, “You don't have to if you don't wish to.” Afterward, he got out of the car, walked to her door, and opened it for her. Nevertheless, she was too weak to get out of the car because she could not say whether Johnny was satisfied with the arrangement. Besides, the arrangement was from her adoptive parents, and not the Vice Chancellor. Turning the offer down may not put her in a good light before them. “Get off, my Ruby,” he called her attention when he noticed that she was lost in thought. She looked at him, and inquired, “What do I tell Prof. Farrell? To stop or continue?” Johnny was inwardly happy presently, and his fears were put at rest temporarily. “Conclude your arrangements with him. We will talk later.” “It is all right,” she responded and got out of the car. Johnny shut the door, sat on the bonnet of his car, and watched her walk into the house. Meanwhile, Johnny hoped that the janitors would be at work in the house, and when he noticed that the house was empty, he decided to join them. He got done from his bonnet and looked into his car to inform them of his plans. Likewise, he smiled when he saw Carmine resting on Stanley's lap, and not paying attention to him. Then, he walked towards the door of the flat, but before he could get to the door, he saw them walking out of the house, and he halted. “Good morning, Professor,” he greeted with an inexplicable look. “Good morning, Young Man,” he responded casually and turned to Ruby, who was behind him. “I hope you got me?” He concluded. “Yes, Professor,” she responded cheerfully. “It is all right, Ruby I will see you in the evening,” he promised her and got into his car. 'See her in the evening? What for?' Johnny murmured. It was either that Prof. Farrell was too hasty to recognize Johnny, or he pretended not to. Johnny smiled at Ruby, and she walked up to him. They walked back to the car, and he opened the door for her before he got in too. To avoid stalking her, he drove off and avoided asking questions about the house. Now, Ruby was uncomfortable with his silence and wished he would speak on the matter. To her relief, Carmine asked, “How did it go, Ruby?” “It went well. The house would be furnished today.” “That is good. When will you move in?” The question deprived Ruby of her eloquence, and she looked at Johnny, who pretended to be less concerned with their discussions. Then, she looked back at Carmine, and said, “I would not know yet.” They drove on in silence, and shortly, they were on the campus. Johnny parked in the car park, and Stanley and Carmine got out and shut the door. Now, since the internet post by Ruby the previous day, no one had seen her, but they had seen Johnny and his friends. Nevertheless, some girls looked out for her in the hostel, but could not find her, while some concluded that she left the campus due to shame. Now, Johnny had parked, and Stanley and Carmine were out, they could not wait to see whether he was alone or with Ruby. Any of them was news on its own. Now, he had opened the door and wanted to get out, but Ruby held him back. "Wait, my Johnny,” she pleaded. He stopped suddenly and shut the door, which confused the onlookers the more. Now, Stanley and Carmine, who owe no one anything, had walked hand in hand to their lecture halls. “What is it, my Ruby?” he looked into her eyes and inquired. She remained silent and only observed his face. Now, the gossipers assumed that he was too shy to walk alone, and teased, “The expectant father is too shy to get out of the car.” “Not the Johnny that I know. Rather, the campus would be ashamed to watch him get out of his car,” the second person concluded with certainty. Now Johnny noticed that she was tensed, and gave her a peck to calm her down, but she was not assuaged. She moved to him and initiated a kiss, and he complied. When Ruby was satisfied, she released him, and said, “I apologize.”
