Irene's Madness 7

“Share you? I can't share my man with another woman. Never,” she blurted out, and Cornelius was disorganized.
He wondered where all her good attributes flew to.
“Calm down, dear. I know how you feel. We will work it out.”
“Will your children also accept my baby? Will they also share their father with him? I am familiar with the problem of a polygamous family," she asked without consideration for his feelings.
At that point, Mr. Cornelius felt humiliated. He saw the status of a polygamist as derogatory, but he took it in his stride.
“There would be no such thing,” he responded with a heavy heart.
She looked up, and asked, “What do you mean by that?”
“The moon goddess decided to bless me with a baby for the first time through you.”
Instantly, her head was swollen, and she raised her shoulder like a peacock. She took the position of a superior wife and began her jesting.
“Oh! She will have no choice, but to give her consent to our marriage at once.”
“You are right. We will have to see her at once.”
“See her? I don't think it is necessary. Just get her consent, and we will get married immediately," she stated defiantly.
Mr. Cornelius was startled at her disrespect for his wife, and corrected, “How can we get married without you meeting the lady of the house?”
“Lady of the house? Do you mean the barren lady of the house? She should meet me, either. The baby and I need to catch some sleep, please,” she snarled and turned her back on him.
She went to sleep, while he tossed and turned all right. Likewise, he regretted ever taking his wife's advice on that issue.
At the Stand Point Hotel
Irene woke up in the morning with a sense of superiority and achievement.
She gave Mr. Cornelius a perfunctory greeting, “Take care of yourself. I will be back."
“It's okay,” he responded with a deep emotional trauma and she left for work.
She got to work and reported herself to Jenny.
“What is his offense?” She asked angrily after listening to her complaint.
“He hid his marital status from me. I hate it when people lie to me. Besides, I would rather not share my husband with another woman.”
Jenny gave her a hate look, and reminded her of her history, “Are you for real, Alisa? Have you forgotten so soon that you were a common semi-prostitute that he hired to warm his bed?”
She looked down in shame, and she hit her below the belt again, “Between you and Mr. Cornelius, who is a sinner? You would rather not share your husband with another woman. Right? You, who three different men - other people's husbands slaughter at the same time. Have you not shared men with me before?”
Nevertheless, Irene was aware that Jenny was right, but she must defend herself, at least to restore her dignity.
“Even at that, I am better than the infertile woman he has at home.”
Jenny realized that she had been with a contemptibly obnoxious person, and hated her, especially for addressing a fellow woman as barren.
All the same, she advised, “You better behave yourself and get married first. At least your child won't be illegitimate, and you would be entitled to something, even if he divorces you tomorrow when he finds out your ugly past.”
“Divorce me?” Irene asked with trepidation when she remembered how the Prince threw her out of his life without looking back.
“Of course. Who would keep an untrained dog, and sutured face like you, for long?”
Although Jenny was angry with her, she was right. Her advice was good to her, and she ran with it, “I got it. Thank you, see you later.”
“Ungrateful ape.” Jenny cursed angrily after she left.
She left for work and planned how to lure Mr. Cornelius into marrying her at once. To her chagrin, she got home after work and discovered that Mr. Cornelius was not at home and could not practice her pretext on him.
“Oh my God,” she screamed and took her seat on the couch.
At Mr. Cornelius House.
Mitchell cried all through the night, as her thoughts wandered here and there. She was distraught, especially when she imagined that her husband could be in the middle of a joyous moment with the pregnant woman who had given him a cause to be fulfilled as a man. She woke up that morning and prepared to leave for work. Ordinarily, she would have stayed behind and nursed her wound, but she would love to keep herself busy with work and chat with her staff members.
At 9:30 AM, her phone rang, and she smiled softly before she picked up and greeted her husband, “Hello, Hubby. How is she?”
“I just arrived. Are you at home?”
“Arrived where,” the bewildered Mitchell asked.
He ignored her and requested, “Kindly come back to the house if you are not at home.”
He cut the call at once and got into his car.
“Welcome back, Boss. Are we going to the office or the house?” His driver asked.
“Take me to the house,” he responded.
They met Mitchell and her team driving into the estate. Thereafter, she got out of the car, and her husband got out too.
“Welcome back, my dear,” she greeted him and searched his countenance.
He hugged her, and responded, “Thank you, my dear.”
They walked into the parlor and ended up in the bedroom.  He sat down on the couch and began to pull off his shoes. She dropped her purse squatted in front of him and helped him.
Along the line, she asked, “How was your trip?”
“My trip was fair. How was your night?”
“My night was good.”
Afterward, she took the shoes to the shoe rack while he changed to his casual wear. She changed too, and they lay on the bed quietly.
After a moment, Cornelius spoke, “It was not worth the trouble, Mitchell.”
She was calm and waited for him to continue.
“We would be better off without a child. At least not the one from her.”
She breathed heavily, and asked, “What happened? Was that your reason for coming back home earlier than you planned?.”
“Yes. The peace and joy you give me supersede any child.”
He narrated everything that happened, and she listened with delight.
Afterward, she spoke, “I'm glad that you have the privilege of being a father. That had been my prayers for you.”
He looked into her eyes and saw calmness, and he was happy with that.
Then, she continued, “Now that you are certain that the baby is ours, you have to tolerate her and secure the legitimacy of our child by marrying her. We will think of what to do afterward.”
He was thrilled with the state of affairs, and agreed with his wife, "I agree with you, my dear. Thank you for your understanding."
"You are welcome, my love. I apologize for making you go through this," she said and faced him.
They locked eyes for a while and he saw peace and love radiating in her eyes. He grabbed her lips with his and gave her a quick kiss. She smiled softly and kissed him as well.
"I'm happy that you can father a child, Cornell" she whispered and he was touched to hear that she had been bothered about him.
"I wish it was with you, my love," he whispered as well and pulled her closer.
"Yes, but I'm glad that you are not as sterile as people thought."
Now, she was emotional and may break down at any moment. He carefully dropped the topic and covered her lips with his. She held his neck and they kissed passionately. To his delight, she was responsive and all over him, just like when they were on the campus.
"Thank you for being my wife," he whispered and she giggled.
Nevertheless, he was more interested in satisfying his wife's emotional needs than thinking of Irene and her pregnancy.
